I think it is too harsh to compare anyone with Julie Andrews (I am her huge fan), but I think this performance is billiant, consider she is playing one of the most difficult and demanding role(Eliza) in musicals (Julie also said that before)!
oh come now, she's a good singer! she's certainly not less than "half as good" as julie andrews! The original is always the most compelling, but there's not need to be that harsh!
I am not impressed with the Revisal of "My Fair Lady." While the temptation to make a 50+ year old chestnut "new" is strong, don't change what worked in what was then a record run on Broadway. There were several changes which simply coarsened and cheapened Lerner & Loew's masterwork.
i hope that he was drunk for the reprise, but not for the first rendition. it would make sense if he drank while waiting so long for her, but the first version should be him totally in love.
the first time he was sober. the second was after the celebration of her success and he drinks his glass of champagne and then takes the bottle and drinks that (at the party, he drinks at least 4 glasses of champagne because he wants to give Eliza one but he is to shy so repetitively he drinks both and then gets 2 more).
Audrey Hepburn did record each and every song for the film, but the producers realised her voice was unfit, so they hired Marni Nixon without telling Audrey and Marni did all the dubbing over the film, quite a difficult job if you ask me.
Marni got no credit for her work, and she had to swear to secrecy she wouldn't blab about this particular job. Eventually, the press found out and Audrey Hepburn failed to get a nomination for the Academy Awards.
it's actually a good idea to make him drunk...:) otherwise he's too pathetic. at least when he's drunk you can think "well if he's sober maybe he's less stupid..."
Very weak voice for a West End singer!

I saw this production in London with Ms. Jay. Allow me to assure everyone that she was absolutely FANTASTIC as Eliza.

How come nobody ever sings any of these songs, half as good as Julie Andrews sang them?

I don't find her a good singer, at all. Just a mediocre one.

I think he and she did a great job.
Have you ever been in or at a play. I think they were both great.

iHeartDXH, Audrey Hepburn did NOT do her own singing in the film version of My Fair Lady. It was a stage actress/singer named Marni Nixon.

wel...this is not supposed to emulate the film, it was originally a play.

Actually-in the film he seemed a little bit pathetic to me. I think being drunk helps personally.
