Gosh I remember this intro! Me and my twin would pretend we were flying into the world of Disney and it definitely made us believe in magic and the shows we were watching!
it was... but this isn't the original... originally there was a segment with a mickey mouse hot air balloon hovering over a scene with the dwarfs hi-ho-ing their way to work... you can find the original here on YT.
You mean instead of a tween coming up and saying "I'm SuchinShuch From SomeShow and you're watching Disney Channel!" Then they draw the the bastardized mouse ears? How are kids supposed to know that's Mickey ears if they've never SEEN mickey on the channel??
@OohcoolProductions The jackoffs at the Walt Disney Company pretty much turned their backs on the lineage that Walt Disney himself put into place. They've essentially rejected Walt's history and are trying to create their own. And he's rolling in his grave because of it. It's gotten to the point that they might as well just eliminate all classic Disney references altogether, including the use of the Mickey Ears in the Disney Channel logo.
@OohcoolProductions No, that's not luck. Luck would be a complete reboot of the Disney Channel, eliminating all the "Original Series", and bringing back the classic programs.
I agree 100 percent, mabye more if it was possible.
Today's Disney is such a bastardized, shit version of what was once a truly great company, channel etc. All these little "tween" fucks have taken the reigns, and all the great old characters like the princesses and fairies are in little subcatagories now. Disney has always been about the money, that's fine, but they had passion and ttrue commitment. Not so today. Quite the contrary.
@ccipollini1984 All corporations are about making money. That's not the point. The point is what you said: Disney Co. completely lacks the passion it once had. It's like they don't have faith in tradition anymore, and that's where they fail. They think their absolute goal is to draw in kids and teens, and I don't get it. They used to show old programs for grown-ups like Zorro during prime time and late night. Why can't they do that for us, except have it be stuff from the 70's and 80's?
I know, that's what I meant. They lack the passion they once had and donb't give any thought to the whole family or Disney itself. it would be silly to have a whole new channel to do the job Disney channel was supposed to be doing in the first place before they sold out to "tweens".
@ccipollini1984 I'll tell you one thing for sure. If Walt Disney were still alive, they'd be doing things much differently. Walt would have insisted on keeping the old school traditions intact even in the modern era. Are we absolutely sure that he wasn't cryogenically frozen? Because...yeah, we totally need him to save his company, and not just the television branch of it.
Disney is not a complete washout now. Every once in a while you get something halfway decent like "Finding Nemo" or "Enchanted" but for every "Enchanted" there's a thousand Hannah Montana movies.
@ccipollini1984 Well I'm not saying all hope is lost either. I just think they need to try harder to bring the adult audience back in, particularly 80's kids like us who were with them them during the early years of the channel. Sure, they might not have the broadcast rights to many of those old shows anymore since some of what they broadcast were created and produced by a third party. But the least they could do is start showing more of the old stuff they DO own.
That was back when Disney really had magic and wonderment but they sold out for a cheep buck with movies like high school musical and cheeta girls and pixar making all there movies for them
Ah yes. Sunday nights at 7! My sister and I watched 'Magical World of Disney' on CBC here in Canada every weekend. After watching the video, I'm actually surprised how vividly I remember it. Great memories!
Wow, back when they were trying to shove Roger Rabbit down everyone's throats. Why don't the folks at Disney feature him much anymore? Can you imagine a Roger Rabbit and Stitch film?
Thank you! I remember this on a tape that was showing Mickey's Christmas Carol and a making of for the little mermaid. Unfortunately I ran the tape to the ground where it stopped playing so thank you for uploding it!
This song was always the best intro. I watched this all the time when I was little. Does anyone have one in a clear song. But this is still really good.
anyone remember "hero in the family "about astronaut switching place with monkey (must have that movie if anyone know where is) accidentally taped over :(
This was the "MAGICAL WORLD OF DISNEY"'s second season title [1989-'90], when NBC tried to shoehorn Barbara Eden's "A BRAND NEW LIFE" miniseries into the weekly mix. Not even Roger Rabbit could save this from cancellation at the end of the season.
I didn't know Ernest belonged to Disney..

Roger Rabbit...maybe Tina Turner said it best: "One day you're cock-of-the-walk, the next...a feather duster."
But after Disney bought the rights to Roger from his creator (Gary Wolf) that company pretty much milked him for all he was worth.

@sjm757 So true!!
I guess we're just lucky they've started showing a few classic cartoons on commercial breaks. Not much but it's a start!

Yes, it was. Disney kept the theme but changed the title when they jumped to NBC for two seasons in 1988.
