  • lol 9000th view! :P This is my favourite theme on this game! :D

  • I am portuguese, and this song is played by a portuguese guitar (Guitarra portuguesa) in honor of Fado (fado is a portuguese music genre unique in the world)

  • What this them real name of this song ?

  • its so sad... I choose my leaders by their themes... :)

  • Actually it sounds like Portuguese Guitar.... good option for the Portuguese leader in the game :)

  • Protugal has gotta have one of the sickest, most awesome civ tunes in the entire game. It's just awesome!

  • I love this theme. I think this was inspired by the Portuguese fado.

  • anyone know the notes of the main melody? I want to play this on my keyboard, but im not leet enough to do it by hearing.

  • With a music like this it is impossible not to be prosperous in the game isn't it?

  • It's played with cavaquinho

  • And by the way, this song is played with the mandolin right?

  • No idea.

  • @Plantguy19 yes

  • @Plantguy19 It is played with a instrument called portuguese guitar (guitarra portuguesa in Portuguese); it resembles a mandolin, but with different tuning and timbre.

  • @Plantguy19

    It's a portuguese guitar.

  • this has got to be my favorite theme in the game

  • A bit too obscure perhaps if you don't live in Portugal or Brazil.

  • I don't think so... Dom Pedro I: -It's the Brazillian name for Dom Pedro IV, who was Portuguese, so it can't be ruler of Portugal Pedro Alvares Cabral: -He was not a leader, but a navigator. He did discover Brazil Getúlio Vargas: -Wtf? Brazillian dictator, nothing to do with Portugal really I suggest: Dom Afonso Henriques Dom Joao II Dom Joao V
  • I guess the Portuguese were never ruled by any getulio vargaz mate. He must be Spanish. Greets

  • ... You guess? I live in Brazil I know, and besides the Portuguese were not ruled by Getulio Vargaz but we were, in fact they didn't add Brazil so, they should add him to portuguese instead, either Henrique

  • I'm brazilian and they forgot to add a ~ to João lolz, and by the way... it's funny to hear portuguese speechs,

"Pronto para trabalhar" " Ready to work!!!"

    LoL, Funny fact

And for those who don't yet know Brazilian was colonized by Portugal not Spain

  • Now this is odd. This actually sounds like a real piece of music, not just something the game designers whipped together (though I usually like gaming music). I wouldn't be surprised if this was lifted from somewhere.

Works great as BGM, a shame I don't usually spend a lot of time in the diplomatic window.

  • maybe...

It's actually very very similar to fado.

  • Do you know where to download this?

  • Youtube Downloader. Google it. Use it. Love it.

  • ...google.

  • By the way, I think I might try and make a guitar tab out of this. Nothing complex.

  • I like the fact that spicy is a tag for this video. =D

  • how can i rip that song for my cellphone or in general?

  • i love Spanish, arabian portugese and stuff.

  • This is one of my favorites in the game too.

  • is there a full version somewhere?

  • I put one up! :D

  • That is the famous traditional portuguese music "Fado" =)

  • Never ever play against him on naval maps... xD

  • That made it a bit Spanish, though. Nice though, I especially like the beginning.

  • nop,the spanish it is a bit portuguese.

  • ¬¬

  • nop,the spanish its made like this....

most of you dont know where is portugal or what is the portuguese culture, when some of you know it, it will confuse with spain,we dont have nothing spanish.

  • They could've chosen something that sounded a bit more Portuguese, like Fado dos Beijos or Saudades de Coimbra (Fado). This sounds nice, though.

And I do know where Portugal is.

  • But it couldnt sound more portuguese than this.....because the other countries that use this kind of sound,are: Hawai (portuguese took there the same instrument),and a bit Brazlian (same instrument but with the name Ukululu);

I can send you many portuguese sounds, and we have more than Fado,we have a unique percussion in some traditional music.

  • I guess we can agree to disagree, then.

Also, Brazilians use "cavaquinhos", as opposed to ukuleles the Hawaiians have. Both of Portuguese origins, no doubt, and very similar, but still different nonetheless.

  • its obvious that from the years each country gave some differences with the instrument. But continues having a portuguese sound.....you also hear some spanish melodies on the mexican music.

  • what about spanish music not like mexican but from spain for me they are kind of realted im glad to be spanish and a little portuguese

  • spanish music is like mexican and argentina.

Brazilian music have some portuguese influences, specially with the drums/percussion.

  • I was searching for this one, thx dude.

  • If you have the game installed, you can just rip the MP3s directly from the game's files, just in case you didn't know. Glad I could help you find this song.

  • What about a phone?
