this game needs a joystick. in fact, u need all keyboard/mouse too. it can b mastered, few can. i have mastered it enough to play it. i played it for hours , battling ships, planets, u actually feel it as a event. i beaten captain kirk. destroyed enterprize. kirk had a very bad day.
I've been saying it for years, they need to produce a series on the Klingons. You could do it from the 2100s to the 2300s We've seen the human perspective. They could do a show on the Klingons. From long time enemies to allies. Episode ideas would be endless.
@chrismc410 Great Idea! Would LOVE to see Worf figure into the timestream somehow. Maybe pick up his ambassador's appointment to the Federation after the Dominion War? THAT would be a great series too.
@ramester If not Worf directly, one of his ancestors. You already have his grandfather and great uncle (Colonel Worf and Commander Thok Mak) Why not show his father, Mogh? We keep hearing about him, I say its time we see who Mogh was. I could see Michael Dorn or Tony Todd (Kurn) play Mogh.
My heart broke when I saw that K'tinga bite the dust at the beginning... that's my favorite Klingon ship class. But at least it went down in GLORIOUS BATTLE!!!
@aerohurtz Its pretty hard to find today. I am thinking about uploading my original disks to some warez sites because this game really rocks (aside the fact that it has terrible controls :D)
@jkarani I hear you, but here is why Interplay went out of business. They were doing excellently then they were bought up by a company called Titus when they went public. Titus wanted to focus on console gaming, and they released a bunch of horrible games. Eventually, TItus went under. Interplay was one of the greatest gaming companies, but it was run into the ground by Titus.
@jkarani The company grew too much, it had over 500 employees in the late 90's, and although their games were selling, licensing cost a lot, and they were paying the external studios as well. It had several unsuccessful projects and also, it hat no recognizable console game, in the booming Playstation/N64 market.
But things were getting better, it was about to get bought up by another company, but then Titus came along and drove in into the ground. The Interplay you see now, that's still Titus.
@bertyao You still need a transporter. It's called site-to-site transport. It's generally not used except in emergencies (like beaming a criticially injured person directly to sickbay) because it uses twice the energy of beaming on or off the transporter pad.
@toddsmitts Transporters of that era could barely handle site to site transport or intraship beaming as it was called then. It really wasn't perfected until the 24th Century.
Interplay's games were great but unfortunately, they never really sold well. Planescape: Torment for example, probably their most critically acclaimed game, and probably one of the best RPG's ever made, only sold between 100,000 to 200,000 copies.
That's kind of what happened to a lot of these companies like Interplay, New World Computing, and Sir Tech. They made awesome games but they just didn't sell well.
I purchased this game when I had windows 98 back in 2000. I played it more on Windows XP. Too bad I can't play it on Windows 7. This was one of the hottest games I've played. Others were; Star Trek the Fallen and Star Trek New Worlds. What I loved about this game was how you could fly into red giants, asteroid fields, planet rings, etc. Many times the battles were not won by how many ships you had or how strong they were, but you had to outwit the other ships fighting you. Great game!
@R4Akai Amen to that. I'm still waiting for KA2 but sadly that's not coming anytime soon. I wish a respectable developer would pick up the license and make a sequel. Can you imagine what it would look like with today's level of technology?
@Democritus8181 well General Chang's prediction of war with the Federation eventually does come through in ST online. It was one of the better decisions by Cryptic to make the Klingons feared once again and not the pussies of TNG era where they are allies of the Federation.

(ST III,IV,V,VI)
NOT THE STANDARD VERSION THAT COMES WITH THE GAME - I MEAN ONE THAT ALLOWS STAR SHIPS IN SIDE? PLEASE HELP - I LOST MINE+THE SIGHT I DOWNLOADED IT FROM HAS GONE! IVE GOT PLENTY OF FILES TO SHARE!
@LadyeXo Actually Chang is the most Klingon-liki Klingon in this whole sequence, if we are talking about TOS/Movie era klingons. They were devious, smart, courteous and engmatic. It is only in the Next Generation that Klingons become idiot barbarian death metal cartoons.
@LadyeXo Chang is an unusual Klingon, often quoting Shakespeare, having a smooth even temper and later on using good tactics in the simulator to train the elite cadets. That's what makes General Chang one of the most memorable characters in star trek mythos.
@hamanu666 i find that the TOS klingons are more like Chang, not necassiraly in terms of intelligence or personality, but with the more human like demeanor. i hate how ever since TNG Klingons have been nothing but "space vikings"
I really wish I could play this again. I spent more time than I would like to say playing this a real classic. You could do anything you wanted the UI was a pain at times but whien you memorised the key sequences you could do some pretty amazing stuff.
KA was released in 2000, 4 years before the DS was made. Interplay closed down soon after, so no, only PC (and possibly Mac, not sure)
Actually reminds me of the good old days when good games came out for the PC, designed for the PC, rather than some console port that barely functions properly on a PC.

@jkarani They went out of buisness AFTWER all of the good games.
Their CEO canceled Fallout 3 a few times in favor of spinoffs, and basicly stopped trying to do anything good.
The people that made this game, that made Fallout ?
They all got laid off.
Then suddenly, they start going under
