The same way you do with any other, escape and evasion. I don't care what art you study, if you get tied up you're done, end of story. When I was at the Gracie Academy in the late nineties and asked questions about multiple opponents it was always the same answer ... get the hell out of there any way you can. Did we pratcice it? yeah, but mostly just to confirm that it was a bad Idea. Such practice confirmed just that ... every ... single ... time.
I have seen a boxer take on 3 men and get out of the situation, now mind you it was a mob against him, he took out three of them the rest backed off. Then there was another boxer who was being bothered by two men in the park his gf was there he rained down punches on them and got away with his gf safely. So to say that there are no arts good vs multiple opponents is false.
I know the videos you're talking about, cause I saw them on youtube. Just to remind you of something. In those instances there was a very good fighter against some idiots who knew nothing about it. Even an experienced boxer should run, cause if in a group of 3 or 4 guys there's just one guy who knows how to fight, he'll be in bad shape against them.
I would hope to goodness that hte jerks in the street who rob people dont take martial arts training, there to busy being scum bags dont you think? Bullies and other types of guys do have experience though
I hope not. But, getting back to my answer, if a jujitsu black belt fought against 3 or 4 guys who just run like crazy againt him, he will be able to beat them without taking the fight to the ground. I have some jujitsu trainning and we do learn how to punch and kick, not just ground fight, because that would be irrealistic.
@Mider999 Some do I am sure, A criminal minded guy is not interested in training to defend himself he lives outside the law. He uses weapons rocks, knives, guns why would he train to defend himself its them that people are afraid of. Their agenda is totally different than that of a citizen they have other reasons why they attack, like to buy more drugs, or make his bones.
@Mider999 Being on the ground in REAL fights where you are trapped by REAL thugs is a bad idea no matter how the Gracies sell its effectiveness. They carefully selected opponents that they knew would compliment their style. BJJ has outstanding chokes etc...but the fundemental teaching of taking a fight to the ground in Watts, S Central, Bronx, Harlem, Phoenix,S. Chicago or any prison will get you killed.
@Richdanahuff There are some martial artists that teach you easier stuff then all this complex grappling to take someone out. Like guys who know WW2 combatives, the palm strike to the face, chin, knee to the groin at the same time. face smash with palm of your hand.
@Mider999 I will say though that grappling is the simplist art to learn it is natural. It is hard to imagine caveman using jabs hooks and Muay Thai kicks or jousting with a stick I can see our primal ancestors grappling and throwing rocks and swinging sticks. Complex movements in grappling are gimmicks even if effective. Complex movements can be defined by us using our higher faculties to organize and strategic minds to come up with proper reactions.
@Mider999 To develop instinctive reactions they take along time to incorporate complex movements involving coordination and unnatural movements I.E. striking.
I just see the gimmicks they used to corner the market. I think a majority of their clients are athletes, stars or inexperienced kids. Anyone from the inner city can see that going to the ground can end your life in the wrong neighborhood.
@Richdanahuff Well thats why arts have come up like Kajukenbo. And FMA is always a good art and JKD is always evolving. there is this guy on paladin press named Hatmaker who does this street boxing with elbows and headbutts its great looking
