The announcer has, in fact, laced up his skates a time or two in his day. His name is Chico Resch and he was quite a successful hockey player in his time. Maybe you should look him up because you are obviously oblivious to the existance of a well known and respected player.Clearly you do not know enough about hockey to even post on the subject. The fact that he admitted Mottau made a mistake at all is may more than most other announers around the league would have done.

Seeing as that Mottau is a professional hockey player and has been playing for a long time, this type of thing does happen, however unfortunate it might be. The player serves his suspension and continues playing. If it was a dirty hit, he would have to have some sort of motive, which he did not.

I'll definitely say that it was a penalty and not a clean hit...but if you watch and actually use your brain for a second, you see that he lost control and one foot left the ice only AFTER he had already made contact. It was the contact of the hit itself that made his skates leave the ice. When you're going at that speed and you make contact so far away from your center of gravity, you're feet are not staying planted.
