so lucky next to the daylight express, one of the famous steam engines here in America i always wanted to get this version of the flying Scotsman, because i always liked the flying scotsman compared ti any other steam engine, other then thomas himself but im talking about real trains lol but i dont have that kind of money he cost for my layout :'(
Search for "Hornby Live Steam pulling power" or copy paste this into the search bar v=T9jvfSR8vhU and you will see FS starting more slowly and pulling an amazing 30 coaches!
Hey topkazfatt was this video tooken before the loco was fully run in? I noticed there was no whistle sounding when it went through the cycle of starting make sure after it has heated for 5-10 minutes that you tap the regulator bar on the controller not hold it down this will cause the engine to slip more than it should at start and go at a high speed also after the engine has heated up and is ready to move move the wheel to the II setting this is for running the loco.
I just noticed it is painted wrong. The piston cover was black as it is on the livesteam while it was with LNER but when it had the second tender was added it was also restored and repainted and when repainted the piston cover was painted the same colour as the rest of the loco, apple green. LOL, I am so nerdy.
@TomixNscale89 - no, the electric current used to boil the water is fed through the rails, so you need a unique power supply & controller to operate this loco.
Even if the model is difficult to operate, I think the wheel-slip there makes it rather realistic, in a way. Most locos do tend to loose grip slightly on starting 8-)
LNER BOARD MEETING:
HEAD OPERATOR: ok let's talk about wheel slip.
lolol great video

The real ones used to spin there wheels just the same. I remember watching them at Newcastle Central - a long time ago.

Does it have DCC?
TomixNscale89 2 years ago
no, becuase it is a live steam set, if you use a 12v or a dcc controler it will damage the loco.
same if you use a normal hornby loco with the live steam controler

why do hornby models always go so fast? the electric motorised ones I normally find doubling the gear reduction would have been better
atleastitsnotcrack 2 years ago
lol you'll burn da house down! your flying scotsman looks cool but pulling too much nice flying start but not good for tracks n wheels! nice vid!

Dual tender... intresting.
PrekiFromPoland 2 years ago
you shouldn't accelerate so fast, it will burn out the wheels
ShadowStallions 2 years ago
no it wont burn out the wheels it will cause 'rough' spots witch lead to fracturing.

what is the point of a double tender?
cech1444 3 years ago
one holds water, one holds coal. Its so it can go a long way
Ohyewildthong 3 years ago 3
Actually the front tender holds water and Coal. The Second tender holds only water.
Hilux5972 3 years ago 6
@Hilux5972
And it is a corridor tender, it also has a room where the relief crew can rest.

Are you thinking on putting a face on that Flying Scotsman?

Does it always slip when pulling a train and would it feel hot after the friction of the wheels on the rails?

FS sure seemed to have trouble with those coaches.
Typhoon6666 3 years ago
No, coaches have no problem.
I tried several FS of HORNBY LIVE (at least 5 or more) for two years. Unfortunately, There is no FS that ran satisfactorily.
I think that this FS is a troublesome product.

Live steam is not easy to controle. Especially, the start is difficult.
topkazfatt 3 years ago
Open the regulator, then shut it. Keep doing this until the engine starts to move. Worked for me when I was having a go at the Hornby stand.

Nice. Ive never seen the double tender live steam one before, and I live in the UK!
