Styx are far better in concert and withour DeYoung. They're able to just rock the hell out without worrying about his Broadway nonsense. I've seen them live 4 times and they put on a hell of a show.
saw them that year in a small club in agoura hills, ca... rockin'!
too bad gowan shied away from DDY's challenging 'sing for the day' licks
anyone know if there is a vid of glenn and tommy singing 'high enough'. there's a version on their live 2001 CD but haven't seen or heard of a vid of it. they sounded awesome in 2-part on it
This most certainly is a great lineup- i agree! glad you enjoyd the show.
as for them singing high enough, i will have to see if i have a copy somewhere. that was from the 2000 tour when they were playing 2 1/2 hour shows. i know there are audio boots floating around, but not sure of vid. i'll have to check around.
@Styxkyd I have heard Gowan sing Rocking the Paradise live on the Cyclorama tour. No joke, he sounded like the lead singer of the b-52's. He just can't hit the notes. Also in ten years with the band he has not written one hit. As for Burtnik, he is just great, Styx needs both Dennis and Burtnik back. Then we can talk about a real lineup!
A great song indeed, one of my favorites from Pieces of Eight. What sucks though is that the "modern" drum sound rapes every classic song like this one.
Actually I am sorry, when you said broken dreams, it reminded me of the song "Pieces of Eight." That is also the name of the album too. Who sings the song? If you could say if it is Dennis or Tommy I would be able to help you.
okay ive looked on the internet.. but cant find it.. there is a styx song. that talks about being a prisoner. i got it off a casset that had this song on it.. im not sure if it was greatest hits 2.. but its driveing me crazy.. it goes something like
I think the song you are looking for is called "Man in the Wilderness." It is off the 1977 Grand Illusion album. I know one of the lines is "I'm a lonely soldier off to wore.
@spaceace1223 If it's still driving you crazy-I believe you're referring to Pieces of Eight. It's six O'clock, good morning sounds are everywhere The warmth of spring, a gentle breeze blows through my hair I hurry through my life never stopping to see How beautiful it was meant to be I'm just a prisoner in a king's disguise Broken dreams as we shuffle by It's six O'clock, it's quitting time I'm done for the day Out on the streets, I overheard a lady say We now have everything, or so...
these two songs really go well together. and i've taken lights for granted for quite some time now. it's only lately that i've taken a shine to it, and now i can't get it out of my head. ;)
they should play lights more. even put it on a REGENERATION cd. Lights is from Conerstone if anyone is wondering

@stmonkeys Great line-up? Dennis DeYoung isn't in the band... that alone makes it not great.
