It's called a "Stewart platform." 6 degrees of freedom with 6 actuators and no skeleton (i.e. no articulating joints). Any external force/resistance is transmitted into linear force (i.e. push/pull) on one or more of the actuators .

Simply amazing. What would make it even better would be if the head was modular, so you could attach a laser/plasma cutter/etc.

@DeadlyDad You probably put a plasma cutter on the end of a tool holder and use it in this machine, but it doesn't make sense. This machine could manipulate it just fine, but it is overkill when all that is necessary is precise positioning. Have a look for videos of robots laser-welding car parts, you'll see how those are arranged. You could do it for the sake of having a laser to mark or locally heat-treat parts while they're in there though.
