I agree that dhamma has to be interpreted according to modern needs. But this process is extremely dangerous. Why? it could eventually interpreted as a total different meaning as time goes. Also, the interpreter tends to introduce his or her own ideas and Original Dhamma could be distorted. How do we know if the interpreter has the right interpretation?

No matter what we must always protect the original text in case one wants to go back and refer to.

This series of videos is very clear and well worth watching not only for Bhikkhu Bodhi's delineation of how we humans have been developing spiritually over the ages, but for an excellent definition of "the spiritual" in Buddhism, and how that definition fits with our progress.
