Maybe you should do your resarch. I am the spokesperson for Move America Forward, and I am personally involved in the war in Iraq. My oldest son served in the Marines, my son-in-law served in the Army, my brother in the AirForce and my youngest son was the first Navy SEAL killed in Iraq 8-2-06. Our troops are willing to serve and as much as they miss their families when they are deployed. They are proud to go back again. Not sure what your drinking or smoking but your not living in reality.

Maybe you should take a trip to Iraq and see the truth for yourself, I did at Christmas and saw first hand how successfully our men and women have implemented the direction and leadership from Gen Petraeus. I'm old enough to remember Viet Nam, and how the anti-war movement fizzled the day after Nixon cancelled the draft. I'm ex-Navy from the draft era. I volunteered. Swore an oath not to the President or C-N-C, but to protect and defend the Constitution and the country from all enemies foreign and domestic. Taught in basic training NOT to follow unlawful orders.

Seems like now they are trained to follow all orders. Then after they use them they abuse them. 18 month wait for dis-ability evaluations after 15 month stints in DU dust.

Interesting note about the military, chain-of-command and the 9-11 attack. On 9-11 Bush was in Florida; after the first 3 planes crashed, the 4th plane heading toward Washington. Cheney -the real president- was giving orders in D.C. in the bunker. Cheney, according to reports, gave a shoot-down order.

Interestingly, the Air Force was not going to follow Cheney's order because CHENEY (only Vice Pres.) IS NOT IN THE CHAIN OF COMMAND. Such an order would have to come from Bush directly..

I am going to stick with the comparison to the 20th century, German/Nazi obsession with worshipping and adulating its military. THIS IS NOT THE AMERICAN TRADITION. The American tradition is (rightfully) suspicious of ANY military and of a large, standing army with nothing to do.

I could have gone with militaristic/WW2 Japan or fascist/militaristic Spain-WW2 or fascist Argentina etc... there are endless examples.

Very true about the blind worship of the military. The U.S. army was founded as volunteer for a reason, so that we would only have to fight wars that we supported, when it was in the best interest of the people. There is also a reason that the powers that be are trying damn hard to privatize the U.S. military.
