Is not the greatest quality of music the ability to find oneself in it?
Regardless of artist or genre, if someone can find a reason to love a certain band, then let it go. Music is a higher form of human expression, and as so, needs to be left alone, free to do what it wants. Support what you like, disregard what you don't like.
@nathan113 Most of the lyrics are pretty able to relate to. "Jesus Christ," for example. Jesse's writing style is amazing in that it's so simple, but it has a profoundness to it. He uses simple words, which both makes the lyrics more understandable and more universal. Thus, you can relate to them. And sometimes you might not even understand the lyrics, but you can relate to the feeling of the song- the dominant impression.
You need an attitude check up. For starter's, Brand New's lyrics are hardly obscure. They take time to interpret, yeah, but let me know when you understood a poem (or even a novel) on first read.
And not everyone has a perfect life, and at least in this album (in certain songs), Lacey does a damn good job relaying despair and self-directed anger. I don't think that this would make them "whackjob emo shits." Quite the opposite, they'll probably me more emotionally well-rounded later.

Most likely, if you're independent, you won't have a job and you won't know anyone (of course there can be exceptions). If you're independent, it's nearly impossible to convince your parents to move somewhere if THEY don't have a reason to move, and they'll most likely also have jobs. And not only 13 year olds live with their parents, most people live with their parents or guardian until the age of 17.

I would like to move, but even at my age I still have to study at college, being independent for the first time is hard. How about you go to a totally different state/country? @electogonorhea: i've moved around a bit, both with and without added responsibilities like a family, schooling, pets...etc. it IS hard, unless you don't mind staying in a homeless shelter, which is NOT a good place for kids. it is fucking hard to get a job right now, ANY job, but certainly a good job that will pay the bills and not fire you if your kid gets sick and you have to stay home for a day. ANYway, just saying...give the dude a break! he's heartsick man!

@electrogonorhea yes, because moving must be so easy even if you're 40. Either you're too young and you still live with your parents or you're supposed to work. You can't convince your parents to move, and finding a job is not easy either. No offense, but I don't get how you think moving should be easy..

@idontloveyouanymore9 then i guess you don't like change. you move for plenty of reasons: better opportunities, better lifestyle, motivation in life. traveling is like a sidestep in moving, because you explore what the world has to offer. if you're with your parents then yeah like i said you must be like 13 or something and you live off of them at the time being, you're dependent. if you have the right mind, you can move or do anything in life. finding a job is easy, just most people are picky.

@electrogonorhea believe me, starting a new life at a different place is hard no matter what. Most likely, if you're independent, you won't have a job and you won't know anyone (of course there can be exceptions). If you're independent, it's nearly impossible to convince your parents to move somewhere if THEY don't have a reason to move, and they'll most likely also have jobs. And not only 13 year olds live with their parents, most people live with their parents or guardian until the age of 17.

@electrogonorhea believe me, I like change. I wish I could move as well, but I really don't get how you say it's easy. I would like to move, but even at my age I still have to study at college, being independent for the first time is hard. How about you go to a totally different state/country? I'm sure it will be extremely easy to find a place to live and then find a way to pay for it and your food. It's called being realistic. No offense again, but you're missing a lot of details.

@idontloveyouanymore9 ive moved to mexico and back, and moved to sicily and back. you just need to do something. just like roadtripping, most people dont plan it they just do it. being spontaneous is the best part of life, if you plan too much it might not go right at all. ive paid everything since 17, my car, my phone, raising my child. it's not hard i dont really get why people think life is so hard when they don't even take a chance they just 'think' its not going to work and quit beforehand.

Congrats for you if you have an easy life, but I'd like you to go and step into someone else's fucking shoes and then see if life is as easy as you think it is. I try to take a chance whenever I can, take a risk, but you can't just go and take a risk about a serious thing like moving. I don't know how old you are, but....

I absolutely love this album and I love Jesse Lacey and I relate to it on almost every level, but I just can't listen to it. It's just such a painful work of music, I can't get very far into most of these tracks without breaking down and crying.
