There is surface hole drilled with fresh-water, then casing set and cemented, on all wells...

There is always a clean eco friendly alternative and if any of this technology is hurting any living thing it needs to be stopped and a alternative needs to be used. We can solve any problem but as long as money is put first in our society (money = interest bearing debt, a talisman for control) things won't change. Life and the earth (our mother) come first.
This was a good documentary; however, the message of completely eliminating fracking is bad. These wells go deep into the crust (2 miles), way below water wells. Q: So how is pollution getting to water wells up 2 miles of VERTICAL crust? A: It isn't. The pollution comes from private contractors doing shitty jobs of lining the drilling hole with cement (which done properly seals off everything from water). Don't eliminate a do-able alternative, just properly regulate it.
@IoIrotfImao Chemicals can seep UP through porus rock as well as down, especialy when it's under pressure. Your still pumping fraking chemicals into open rock that is conected to water tables, so you will get water polution no matter what. Polution comes ultimatly from fracking. Through sub-contractors or the gas company itself, fraking is clearly bad, and dificult to regulate with so many companies involved. No well is fool-proof, no drilling process is perfect. Gas is not the answer here.
@Eagleknot2 Yes, chemicals can seep up, but not through 1-2 miles of crust (especially with their mineral deposits which will cause hydrostatic pressure to keep it down in the earth). Also, if properly sealed off with cement, the fracking chemicals can never touch water tables. With proper regulation, cutting out crappy contractors, and proper research and regulation of chemicals used, it can be useful. If it is just seeping, how do you think they find contaminant levels so high?
@Eagleknot2 A direct connection of fluids to water, not seeping is what makes the contaminant levels so high. If anything can seep up through high pressured rock. Maybe doing an experiment between a crappy-sealed and properly sealed well will show the difference in contamination and gas leaks. That's the only way I'll be swayed because really anything else said is just speculation.
@IoIrotfImao how do you properly seal a fraked well? The process involves blowing cracks through the well pipe itself into the rock layer. You can experiment at home using a straw and sponges. Drill a hole in a sponage, insert a straw punched with random holes and cracks, and poor in colored water. See where the colored water goes. even if you put that sponage in a plastic bag (impermable layer) you may still get a leak through the bag. Don't trust oil companies to do a good job.
I am not talking about the whole thing, like I said previously, majority of it won't seep back up through the very dense rock. The main part of the contamination is coming from the top of the well, the superficial part that are close to the service which leaks into well water. You get rid of gaps and block of the pipe from surrounding earth by surrounding the pipe with a foot or two of concrete. This will prevent the chemicals from reaching the surrounding superficial ground.

This was a good documentary; however, the message of completely eliminating fracking is bad. These wells go deep into the crust (2 miles), way below water wells. Q: So how is pollution getting to water wells up 2 miles of VERTICAL crust? A: It isn't. The pollution comes from private contractors doing shitty jobs of lining the drilling hole with cement (which done properly seals off everything from water). Don't eliminate a do-able alternative, just properly regulate it.

@IoIrotfImao Chemicals can seep UP through porus rock as well as down, especialy when it's under pressure. Your still pumping fraking chemicals into open rock that is conected to water tables, so you will get water polution no matter what. Polution comes ultimatly from fracking. Through sub-contractors or the gas company itself, fraking is clearly bad, and dificult to regulate with so many companies involved. No well is fool-proof, no drilling process is perfect. Gas is not the answer here.

@Eagleknot2 Yes, chemicals can seep up, but not through 1-2 miles of crust (especially with their mineral deposits which will cause hydrostatic pressure to keep it down in the earth). Also, if properly sealed off with cement, the fracking chemicals can never touch water tables. With proper regulation, cutting out crappy contractors, and proper research and regulation of chemicals used, it can be useful. If it is just seeping, how do you think they find contaminant levels so high?

Maybe doing an experiment between a crappy-sealed and properly sealed well will show the difference in contamination and gas leaks. That's the only way I'll be swayed because really anything else said is just speculation.

@IoIrotfImao how do you properly seal a fraked well? The process involves blowing cracks through the well pipe itself into the rock layer. You can experiment at home using a straw and sponges. Drill a hole in a sponage, insert a straw punched with random holes and cracks, and poor in colored water. See where the colored water goes. even if you put that sponage in a plastic bag (impermable layer) you may still get a leak through the bag. Don't trust oil companies to do a good job.

I am not talking about the whole thing, like I said previously, majority of it won't seep back up through the very dense rock. The main part of the contamination is coming from the top of the well, the superficial part that are close to the service which leaks into well water. You get rid of gaps and block of the pipe from surrounding earth by surrounding the pipe with a foot or two of concrete. This will prevent the chemicals from reaching the surrounding superficial ground.
