@FutileFreak If you turn a layer into a 3D shape, you will see under that layer a few sub-headings. Those are the 3D textures that go into making the 3D object. Just double click and you will have it back. The only way you can get it back to a 2D shape after rendering out the 3D shape is to Undo.
Start a new document, go to the 3D menu up at the top, then new shape from layer and select pyramid =D
Down in the bottom right hand corner you should see the 3D layer (it should be the only one there). You should seem stuff like bottom_material etc, double click each one of these to colour each face of the pyramid seperately. Of course you can just paint on the 3D object if you want by using all of regular 2D tools just the same as you would when doing 2D work. =D
Yessum, I've did it once before. Your very polite and I would be glad to help out. Plus the kinds of things in the video might help a few other people out as well.
Ok I have subscripted to your channel. What I want to do is a Logo... A 3D pyramid which has a real texture, not a soft texture... You know, I want the pyramid looks real with all its blocks. And a pyramid-like color lol
Thanks, I will give it a shot making a pyramid, the thing is Photoshop only has a few pre-set shapes. I guess its not really for creating the shapes, for that there is a whole wide selection of programs (check out blender).
What you want to do can be done in 2D. The 3D feature is more for texturing objects for games. As a matter of fact, I made quite a few pyramids in a night desert about 2 years ago. Anyway, I'll include the rest of it on the video. Running out of characters =(
Do you, or anybody else for that matter, have any idea why the 3D options menu on my CS4 isn't applyable? I mean i gett the rollout meny out but then all the options are like faded, so I can't use em? thanks
I have limited my memory in my preferences so Photoshop doesn't hog it all. All I need to do is see it going the direction, smooth motion isn't worth all my RAM.
But maybe when I get a new computer in December I will let Photoshop make the most of it.
Glad you liked it. My video: Adobe Photoshop CS4: 3D Capabilities shows you lots of things you can do to these 3D objects eg. painting using brushes, dodge, smudge on the 3D object.
ya nice job but you didnt help anyone with actually doing this!

Is there a way that you can turn the 3d shape back to a 2d one? (even after you saved it as a 3d shape)

It is only available in CS3 and above as I told you in your other comment. Unfortunately, CS2 was before any 3D features had been added.
Sorry about that.
