  • So deep. So well made. I saw it on LSD and it burned a hole in my temporal lobe.

  • @pretzelzetzel

Dont do drugs, drugs'll end you son

  • This film is incredible.

  • This is truly one of the best movies ever made!

  • Very strange film. Brilliant. Bravooo Darren.

  • SwedishMealTime @ 0;32 hahah!

  • THE MOST BEAUTIFUL MOVIE EVER MADE!

  • illuminati lol

  • this movie was incredible, but I couldnt help and laugh that the monkeys name was Donnovan. WHO NAMES THEIR MONKEY FUCKING DONNOVAN! oh,man.

  • @PeaceLoveMonika maybe because it's A FILM BY DARREN ARONOFSKY !! :/

  • looks like a movie that i won't enjoy.

  • I saw this more than a month ago

I'v thought about this film probably almost everyday since then

    GREAT movie

  • polkinghorne

  • The trailer makes this movie look good, but it's not. It's really weird and Rachel is so creepy and scary in it.

  • I'll try my best to explain and make it less confusing as I can then I'll reply to udontknowhowlovely24 about this movie. First let me start with the ideas of rebirth or recontinuing of life. One of the main ideas in the theam is that he remember all his past life time, about him and his wife. Time after time somehow they always end up falling inlove with each other. If you may you could say they are Soulmate. The ideas here is to let go, so all those memories are simply there to help him cope.

  • Sorry theme not theam lol. Anywase all his memories of his past life time merging with his present life time these are all there to help him cope to let go. But too much then you could be stuck too. Once he let go then at the end he finally is free. You see the other main point here is that clinge and attachment kept us stuck our bound to our memories. After we died the memories countinue. What it the mind want is to be free but memories kept the consciousness stuck.

  • This is my favourite movie, I've seen it a million times, and I still can't explain it, it's that amazing.

  • @udontknowhowlovely24 many life time he always fall inlove with this girl his soulmate. In every life time death always taking her away from him. Everytime he always try to find a way to achieve death, by finding the tree of life, curing her disease, by not accepting death as part of life and bound by all his memories about her life time after life time. Untill he got it right and accept and then he finally free. So not only she is dead but he too already dead.

  • This movie is SO amazing! I just loved it so much! Flawless acting, ORIGINAL and AMAZING plot! the way this movie is filmed, one word : Aronofsky!

  • PI

    Requiem for a Dream

    The Fountain

    The Wrestler

    Black Swan

Clint Mansell desurves just as much credit as Aaronofsky; and vice versa. Each film is unique; all are about obsession and persuing a dream. I cannot wait to see what these genious's come up with next! You need to watch all of these films with an open mind, to really appreciate the magic of what has been created!

  • @Steelidea Ahh, awesome! I would love to see how it looks; however I would be just as advertised by that if it was made with a $1000 budget. It's his scripts that truly grip me; not the special effects. Although I have no doubt that it will be another complete masterpiece!

  • What?

  • The trailer is far too epic. I will of course watch the movie, given that I have not watched it yet.

  • clint mansell is a genius

  • It's people like Darren Aronofsky-people left in this profession who actually give a damn about making a great movie in all it's aspects, and then some-that make me want to get into this business

  • no thanks

  • I really didnt understand it all but this movie = mindblown

  • this movie was an inspiration to me as a believer, as an atheist I still love it. its messages of love and hope and beauty can resonate with anyone

  • Darren Aronofsky, Terrence Malick, and Christopher Nolan are the best of the best!!!

  • This is the only movie that made me cry for 2 hours :(

  • Clint Mansell is a huge factor in Darren Aronofsky's success in film.

  • This is the movie that convinced that Hugh Jackman really is a great actor.

  • This is a man's story coping with his wifes death. You never know how will you act if you lose your love of life. This is a beautiful movie. I like it, Hugh is briliant :)

  • I always cry when I see this movie. The similar think happened to me in the future.

  • oh God my friend's mom MADE us watch this.worst movie ever!!.but some parts were pretty.

  • could anyone who have seen this tell me if its good or not?? please

from 1 to 10, 10 being really really good XD

  • @Saleisha007 If you don't understand the story: 4 (nice visuals). If you are willing to understand the story: 9,5 (perfection doesn't excists. But this one gets very close!

  • @skycrap Is it one of those pseudo-intelligent films that confuse the viewer with complexities to make it seem good?

  • I can't stop watching this film. i think it's a beautiful film if you know what your looking for. It's not for the slow and incapable people who can't follow more then one plot. But I love Izzi. And how she managed to over come her fear of death. "Death is the road to awe." I think that's the most moving single quote iIve heard in a while.

  • Is this movie good? :)

Not that I really need to ask since I'm going to watch it anyway since Hugh Jackman is in it ^^

    Just wanted to ask :)

  • one of the best trailers ever

  • @leerescrecer Broseph...you could have just said I needed to watch it again. I was twelve when I saw it, if you read my whole comment. No need to be mean.

  • so, i could tell that this was a fucking rediculous mindfuck when I saw it, but I didn't get it...at all. There was never a point where the storylines came together. Maybe I need to watch it again, since I was 12 then and am 18 now, but I've always sorta wondered, ever since I saw it, what the fuck was going on. XD. Anyone wanna explain?

  • @Alokue sure mate... the explanation is clear. You have a low IQ

  • i had a favorite movie at 14....fightclub...grew up alittle, got to know more movie. my favorite changed to the matrix at 16

then i got alittle older still, at 17 my favortie was good will hunting...

but now, in the process of life, at 18. the age of adulthood and gaining ones own faults..The Fountains my favorite now

  • clint mansell and mogwai <3

  • a movie for dendrophiles

  • Many of you might hate me for that, I know, but I was so dissapointed with this movie. I watched only because of the amazing soundtrack, and what I saw was a boring and totally unoriginal movie, trying to show us a different perception over death. The idea is good, but not the way it was put in practice. And can someone explain to me the meaning of the title: The Fountain, when it's actually about the tree of life? Or did they want it to sound more poetic?

  • @RaffaellaQ The Tree of Life.... The Fountain of Youth... Same idea... Different "myths"... I'm not sure exactly why its called "The Fountain", but i'm sure the fountain of youth played a part in naming it so. I personally thought it was a pretty damn good movie.... And yeah the soundtrack was quite amazing! :)

  • okay, someone explain to me how in the hell i have never heard of this movie?!??!?!

  • @sweetmay73 lol me too

  • Epic, extremely deep, emotional, visually amazing...words cannot describe this movie...when the music of the OST escalate you won't be able to breathe...fantastic

  • no words can do this movie justice

  • @chubby507andahalf

the wolverine seeks a cure for death because his wife is dying of some cancerous disease. he trips in his mind while reading a book she wrote and "sees" the tree of life, drinks from its sap, and becomes a flowery shrub. then everything blows up in a fiery nebula and Aronofsky leaves everyone wondering "wtf?"

and the monkey who was healed becomes the Caesar of the Planet of the Apes. Aronofsky left the cliff hanger on purpose to lead into the new movie

  • amazing, epic, holy fuck, etc

  • sum1 please explain what this movie is about in words..i want 2 watch it cuz its got two really good actors who r my fave..x

  • @thegreeneyes01

the wolverine seeks a cure for death because his wife is dying of some cancerous disease. he trips in his mind while reading a book she wrote and "sees" the tree of life, drinks from its sap, and becomes a flowery shrub. then everything blows up in a fiery nebula and Aronofsky leaves everyone wondering "wtf?" great movie tho

  • FACT: The Fountain is not only one of the best film of all times, but also one of the most visually/romantically beautiful movies ever made.

  • truly the greatest love story of all time this was the most exceptional movie, so beautiful, so chilling, and the acting was mind blowing, hugh jackman's crying scenes and scenes of frustration and agony and love were done so well i found myself waking up from a sort of trance multiple times throughout the movie

  • Warning: For external use only.

    (do not swallow)

May produce hallucinations, mood swings, strange abdominal growths, and in some rare occasions, death. Consult a doctor to see if you are healthy enough for the Tree of Life! If you experience thoughts of suicide, stop watching The Fountain immediately and hug your loved one.

  • Had to watch it twice to follow what was going on, but it was a great movie.

  • @Stefandurr

I'm glad you said PT Anderson. If you'd said Paul WS Anderson, I'd currently be flying to your house to kill you lol

  • Brilliant movie. Perhaps the editing could've been more sharp, but the message that it wants to convey, it does convey quite brilliantly. The score is stunning, its soul touching.

Everything is just material, everyone's gotta go one day.

  • This soundtrack always gives me chills

  • One of the most thought provoking, emotional pieces of work ever. I cringe when people say they couldn't even sit through this movie. The music, acting and concepts are really brilliant. It makes you think about all the insignificant, trivial worries we all have, which will one day be long forgotten in the immeasurable might of the universe.

  • The movie has one of the most saddest and greatest soundtracks I have ever heard. Mix that with an amazing love story that has fantasy and history in it, and you get The Fountain... A truly "MUST SEE" movie.

  • weary few are the movies that can bring me on the verge of tears.

this movie was definitly one of those. it was an emotional and epic experience.

ps. Hugh Jackman is awsome as always. no change in that

  • The Fountain is a MASTERPIECE!...

Exactly b coz its Transcendental, going beyond TimeSpace... & Reconnecting + Reminding us Spirit Eternity;)...

TO LOVE &THE GENUINE BE THE GLORY!;)*

  • This is what I call ROMANCE. :D

  • This film fucked my mind and emotions.

  • no

  • This trailer doesn't seem to do the film justice. I get the feeling that they felt they had to 'dumb it down' to make it appealing to audiences. Screw that, I say. The Fountain is easily one of the deepest and most thought inducing movies ever made. It should have received more awards.

  • Read my review of this film and feel free to follow my blogs.

  • You have to be prepared to fully appreciate the greatness of this movie.

  • Criminally under rated film.

  • @GenieJackman Too true.

  • this movie was so intense, very artisitic. i was left speechless

  • The description of "your wife needs you" seems to illustrate something otherworldly - as though it is an aspect of bestowing or resting one's own needs upon another. Perhaps body (wife) and soul (man) separation or tether like that of an out-of-body (OBE) experience. Possibly even death.

  • extremely underrated

  • un film extraordinar, o adevarata opera de arta !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This looks like a deep one. Why haven't I seen this yet?

  • If you get the idea of reincarnation there's no reason to not get this movie

  • It's a piece of art.

  • Ok i'll admit the first time i watched this movie , i didnt get it for shiit. But it actually is a really good ass movie, and its sad n romantic and i love the whole thing that Jack n Rachel remain lovers from 1500 ad to 2500 ad, i love this movie, & the soundtrack is good too

  • of course Hugh Jackman lives forever, he's fucking Wolverine!!!! but seriously I love this man's movies he directs really good, I must see this

  • I saw this movie when I was really young, and didn't really understand it, but liked it. I want to rewatch it now :)

  • One of the most amazing movies I've ever seen!!!!!!!! Hugh Jackman's performance is unbelievable!!! I had no idea he could act like that!!!!

  • Good movie are only for intelligent human

  • Hes the one who did Black Swan so how can this film be bad ?

  • hmmm ok film I guess, but I feel I missed an underlying message or something

  • the 2500 AD part is such BS

  • Wonderful movies, with wonderful sound !

    Thank for this partage YT

  • I can't say I fully understand the plot but the atmosphere is quite exceptional. Audio-visually it's definitely among the most beautiful movies I've seen.

  • lta anyone?

  • This is one of the worst movies I've ever sat through. It's a good idea, and they preview it good, but it's just really weird. And Rachel Weisz is so scary in it.

  • the yggdrasil

  • intresting.. wanna see.

  • It's a masterpiece,no doubt. From the Greatfather, grew the tree of life, for those who dont understand, the three timelines represent the epic and doomed by the beginning quest to defeat death.the last, and the least understood timeline represents the inside spiritual journey and acceptence of own mortality(imo). oh,and for the haters, hate everything you dont understand, like those witch hunter peasants a few hundred years back, things you dont understand are evil and unacceptable.

  • i believe this movie is going to be cherished by people in the 31 century cuze by that time the movies might be catching up with this master piece...maybe

  • I wish more trailers would be like Kubricks.

  • very bad trailer for a very good movie .. its so much much more than they show in trailer

  • This is such a beautiful film. And the most amazing part of it is how little was CGI.

  • Darren Aronofsky, you and Chris Nolan are our Saviors of Hollywood.

  • This is my absolute favorite movies, on top of a LONG list.

I think your addition of the track 'Death Is The Road To Awe' over the trailer was great, but I do think you should have left in the Grand Inquisitor's speech from the original trailer, it is so central to the theme of the movie.

It is not a movie for all, but if you get it, it will forever change you.

  • This movie is sooo confusing :L

  • i remember seeing this when i was a kid and i totally get scared...

  • Dude! I totally didn't know Darren Arnofsky directed it! lol. I just picked it up because my friend gave me the soundtrack (because I love Clint Mansell's work). That's so cool, it all makes sense now lol

  • illuminati up in this bitch!

  • amazing the movie and the songs <3<3

  • HAiL The Arrivaaalssss!!!

  • looks like the type of movie I would like, ill have to check this out

  • when did this movie came out ?

i didnt know anything about it

  • Great movie.....!!!!!!

  • Darren Aronofsky is simply a genius... So much emotion in his movies which you can't see anywhere else...

  • only certain people understand this movie, because only certain people were ment to

  • the soundtrack<3

  • I couldn't stop crying for the last 30 minutes of the movie.. So moving, so unique , just amazing!!

  • Aronofsky's most amazing film so far.

Yet, it is sadly his less recognized film.

  • push down 7 constantly to see the meaning of life

  • @voyagersystem and are you saying that religion is the truth that should be shown?

  • @jackelkid101, not religion. Just the truth.

  • @voyagersystem there is no truth or lies in art. just expressing yourself, and that involves niether

  • @sTapleEVA, truth exists. If it is not the truth, it is a lie. Good exists, if it is not good, it is evil.

  • @voyagersystem i diddnt say truth doesnt exist. i said it doesn exist in art. you cant worry about truth and lies, or anything from the outside world. art is your world, thats why it takes you such beautiful places.thats your opinion, but i dont believe in good or evil. i believe there are only decisions. other people can label them good or bad, but those are just words.

  • @sTapleEVA, if you don't believe in good and evil, then you don't believe in right and wrong. Therefore in your mind ... anything goes, or put in another way, 'do as thou wilt', which is satanism. Thankfully GOD is in control and so the universe does not operate on that basis. THANK GOD. I think art can speak truth or at least strive for truth, just not in movies like this, which promote old spiritual lies, the doctrines of devils.

  • @voyagersystem Thank you for reminding me why I am atheist. You seriously sound like a brainwashed cult member, guess I’m a Satanist for deciding to not dedicate my life to living like a scarred ignorant little sheep. Freedom>dedicating your free will to an invisible fairy in the sky. You sound like one of those "Christians" who justify judging people and hatred with "I’m Christian". Maybe what you believe in is the lie? You don’t think it could have been altered in the last thousand years?

  • @voyagersystem scientists can adjust someone's morals with a magnet, they can also induce you to see and speak to god with a magnet.

For the most part our brains are biologically similar and its the biology of the brain that gives us morals, not religion. In fact if religion is the only thing guiding your morals, you might have the brain chemistry of a psychopath.... and since 1% of the population are pyschopaths, its not that unlikely.

  • @mark1m, ... sorry, but your post doesn't make any sense to me, so I am unable to respond appropriately.

  • @mark1m Religion is definitely on of the main things which take part in developing personal ethics. You can't change personal ethics with a "magnet", but by learning specific habits. I doubt morality has anything to do with God itself. Science is nowhere near close to proving non-existence of something "higher", and religion is nowhere near right of describing it or telling what it is. No afterlife is necessary for existence of something "higher".

  • @Morr1992 no you can change your ethics with a magnet. Our brain is rather segmented, there are very specific parts for very specific tasks. Thats where the myth of we only use 10% of our brain or whatever comes from. We use 100% of our brain, but since all the work is so well divided, we only use about 10% at any given time.

So while we have areas for storing short term/long term memories, which we draw on to process our morals, the processing is done in a specific area that can be manipulated

  • @mark1m We don't use 100% of our brains... There are still neurotransmitters missing when it comes to sensory part. I don't rely on religion, I'm an atheist. Being atheist doesn't mean ignorance towards religions

  • @Morr1992 empathy, empathy is biologically built into our brains. I could stab you, but a functional brain has the ability to put me in your shoes. In other words, i can imagine what it would feel like to be stabbed and i wouldnt like it, so im not gonna stab you. My brain tells me this, not religion or any other BS. A fully developed brain tells me not to do this, not religion. If you rely on religion for morals, you are probably a psychopath unable to feel empathy.

  • @Morr1992 and frankly, if this movie didnt make you cry you probably are a psychopath.

again its 1% of the population. So 8000 psychopaths have watched this video.

  • the music of this movie is so epic! because the music is so great i´m gonna watch the movie right now

  • I don't trust anybody that doesn't like this film.

  • It may have interesting concepts on life, death, love and the way we perceive these things (and on this level it's interesting) but looking at it from a purely entertainment perspective it's a bit monotonous with nothing inspiring, thought changing or compelling. For me its just a bit weird and a bit flat.

  • He should have be searching for a rare bottle of cognac, instead of a tree. Whould have been cooler.

  • My favourite director! Even the trailer itself makes my cry..

  • this movie is one art frame to the next , i love it

  • just finished watching it. one word ; "psychotic"

but it does have a nice statement and that is the only way to attain immortality is through death ( i personally believe it should have been called transition. death is a bad word)

  • this trailer is quite shitty it doesn't grasp how amazing the experience of watching

     this movie is

  • @itaybm2 This movie is ALL the life and death put in pictures and you are calling it stupid?!

I have no words to say...

  • This movie is like a big smelly fart in the face.

Stupid plot, ridiculous ideas (a monkey with a tumor got healed by a friggin tree peal stuck in his head, I mean WTF?!), I expected a lot more of a movie with such a good cast (Rachel Weisz and Hugh Jackman).

  • @itaybm2 Tell it to the preacher Brother :D

  • @itaybm2 ... dont hate on the movie when you lack the brain capacity to understand and appreciate it, go back to your iron man and transformers please

  • @yellow103 I like it when people like you watch movies to seem "sophisticated and intellectual".

You want real movies worth watching? I recommend the very trivial yet awesome films as a start : "Scent of a Woman" (officially crowns Al Pacino as the greatest actor who ever lived) , "The Godfather" Trilogy (though the 3rd is just a big flop), "Inglorious Bastards" (Great typical kickass Tarantino film) ,"The Shawshank Redemption" (probably one of the best films ever made).

  • @itaybm2 im not disagreeing with you when it comes to those films you pointed out. they are indeed great films and yes, i have seen them. But on the other hand, you've gotta understand that great films comes in all types and forms. Whilst the films you have listed comprises of great script, acting and excellent deliverance of its plot to portray its underlying themes Films like the fountain, is somewhat a surreal piece of cinematography art that is more like a jigsaw then film.

  • @itaybm2 its emotional impact derives combination of excellent music thanks to the ingenious Clint Mansell and brilliant and extravagant scenery. it may not be to everyone's taste, but its by no means a garbage of a flick. if good films can be classified as an art form, then think of comparing the Mona Lisa to The Three Musicians.

  • @yellow103 I think this movie's good and I also like iron man. However, transformers is dumb <,<

  • @yellow103 Im sorry but no. One can easily enjoy iron man and transformers (not the sequels thank god) while understanding memento, the prestige, inception and even this movie. It is people like you that make the internet bad by thinking that you are better than others and mocking them for it.

I am not writing this for any thumbs up, i am doing it so that you can look upon yourself and change yourself so that you will stop bullying strangers.

    Sincerly with best wishes

    Tp

    p.s. Go F*** Yourself

  • @MrPolkinghorne Good cause you're not getting any thumbs up for your poor attempt at wittiness.

No one thinks anyone is better than anyone else here. All yellow is saying is that people who hate this movie, simply because it left them dumbfounded and confused, are cynical assholes who can't appreciate artistic expression that takes them outside their own intellectual 'box' . And in that case they should probably stick to the flashing lights and loud noises of Transformers.

  • @MrPolkinghorne It seems that by mocking others and involving the use of an expletive in the defense of your position has an undermining effect. It is a fact that some movies are just plain better than others. A movie that attempts to grapple with an age old dilemma like the inevitability of death will spark more debate and thought than a film like Transformers which basically boils down to "BIG ROBOTS FIGHT EACH OTHER." In the end, a movie that makes you think is the only movie worth watching.

  • @PhantomAlucard Careful with the use of 'worth' and variants. They get obnoxious really fast. Isn't it acceptable to enjoy something because we enjoy it, without feeling guilty because it doesn't meet somebody's intellectual standards?

  • @PrawnSticks The last thing I want is to sound obnoxious and consequently make the Fountain seem obnoxious, but think about it. When we weigh a films worth, do you think that a movie like Twilight or Iron Man can hold up to something like 2001: A Space Odyssey or the Fountain? The fact that these movies leave people confused means that there is room for interpretation, though and art. A summer blockbuster rarely ever does that.

  • @PhantomAlucard True. I was attempting to say there's nothing wrong with films that don't make us think. Weird though it sounds when phrased like that. Perhaps we just give different meanings to 'worth'.

Anyway: no danger in putting me off The Fountain, I've been a solid convert since I first encountered it.

  • @PrawnSticks There's certainly balance to everything, isn't there? It's quite maddening. I'd love to write off less thought-provoking movies as being worse, but they have value too, don't they? Everything has value; it's just trying to decide where the value lies that makes things difficult. As for the Fountain, I'd say its value is very self evident. ^_^

  • @MrPolkinghorne What does Inception have to do with anything? It's just a lame excuse for a futuristic film whose time was long gone before it was even out.

  • @MrPolkinghorne wow you sound like an intellectual wow wow but actualy you are an asshole. A person with human brain in his/her skull will never watch ironman/tranformer twice but will watch The Fountain 100 times. you are another brainwashed product of west where people do not about to think about death and busy with this material world but one day everyone have to die. Now go and Fuck Yourself

  • @MrPolkinghorne I saw your comment from highest thumbed up comments. While I do agree someone can enjoy an "action flick" with few emotional inspirations, yet also enjoy this with less action and more emotional passion. However, despite what he said it never ever justifies you "and change yourself."

Don't ask others to change for you, just ignore them if you dislike it. There are millions of Muslims, Christians, and others who hate me because I am gay. I don't want them to change, just ignore.

  • @Emmercedes fag
