  • its shit

  • Wow, fix your export settings.

  • Is this a Mogwai song? Sounds like it.

  • Dakkio....u should totally take this down. it looksso gashy. my Canon g9 has beter vieo than this.

  • I agree, it isn't the true quality of the XhA1. Not even close. This may be a low quality mpeg4

  • Not bad, Need a tripod though.

  • anyone have any comments on the xlh1?

  • you know what... don't get it if you don't film manual focus... the auto focus is slow and the auto focus zone is weird.

  • already bought it lol, and yeah i always use manual. but thanks.

  • how was you able to get such wonderful depth of field? did you have a 35mm adapter whilst shooting this clip

  • man thats an awesome camera...where does a bloke get the money for it tho! theyre expensive!

  • Rent it.

  • why put test footage on YouTube? YT will compress it anyway and god knows what else. Also, how did you pepare this footage for upload? Without this info its near to impossible to judge the technical merits of this footage.

  • 100% agreement

  • why is it soo blurry ?

  • crop your video to 4:3 before upload to youtube

  • Damn youtube, it's a crime to lower the quality of a video shot with such a nice camera...

  • nice house. nice video too.

  • thanks

  • ordered my xh a1 today. Nice sound track but, you could have posted slightly more interesting test footage, it looks quite bland also, from what ive heard the Canon needs a good bit of colour boosting, have fun with the zillions of pre-sets, the new standard of prosumer is set. Thankyou Canon.

  • Just to leap at Canons defense. Heh eheh. Yeah the Canon cameras are oft criticized for being flat. This is because they are pro cameras. They give a nice flexible, jack-of-all-trades, suitable for many different lighting setting, flat, easy to fix, adjustable in many ways in post, stock setting.

If you want something else adjust it. If you buy this camera, you are suppose to know something, if not stick with DVD handycams LOL.

  • What you're saying is that the cameras are meant to be put through some sort of post process like after effects/avid/final cut to achieve bigger quality? Not that I'm against that.

  • Dakkio, what's up with the 2.35:1 aspect ratio? Does it just crop a 16:9 picture it or is it real 2.35:1?

  • it is 1.85:1

  • It was shot in 25f (the pal equivalent of 24f), and the song is Halo by Mono

  • That was shot in 24f?

    Also, what song is that?

    Thanks.

  • Man, that looks amazing. I'm between the Canon and teh HVX200. I would love to get the Canon, but the frame rate from Panasonic is something I would really like to have. In the end, because of the HVX costs, I'll go with the Canon.

  • why trying to figure out what 24f looks like on static shots?? 24f is used to render motion more film like. i can see the bottomline of the top letterbox is jumping. it gives away that the ccds of the canon do not read out progrssive frame but interlaced which are being put together internally to form full frames at 10% loss of vertical resolution. the canon is better than the hvx which uses a bad version of pixel shift. the hvx's resolution is poor compared to the crisp 1.67 mpixel of the canon

  • So how you like your camera?? I'm considering this camera VS Sony V1.

  • I'm loving my camera thanks, I don't know much about the sony, but all i do know is that this camera is fantastic and in dark rooms or at dusk it can see better than I can!

  • Yep, I basically got it out of the box when it arrived and filmed this straight away.

  • Was this shot with the stock lens?

  • I know where you're coming from fourthwall. But when you take into price into account the XHA1 makes sense. The HVX200 is a great great camera but the P2 cards are really really expensive. The Canon XLH1 has interchangeable lenses but thats a lot more. The DVX100 has 24p but is not hd, and the Xl1/XL2 has interchangeable lenses but also is not hd. All said and done, the XHA1 is a great compromise. You could still make a great movie with this cam.

  • canon stated that 24f is the same as 24p with little difference in the end product. I have seen many clips of xha1 and it is really amazing. thu, I think focus is the main problem because you need to get precise one with HD quality. Im tryin to sell my xl1 to buy this one. Hopefully, someone will buy soon :)

  • nice look but not for shooting movie shorts. 24p is a better look than 24f, and the lenses on the xh series aren't interchangable like the other canon models.

  • I don't know why to be honest. I tried another tape and captured it using Vegas 7 instead of 6 and it's gone. I can only assume it was either the Tape or a capturing fault. Let me just say that this compressed version doesn't do the camera justice. The original footage is so crisp and I'd recommend the A1 to anyone. Oh and by the way zachmanz8, I brought mine from a British online retailer called Tecno, but I am based in the UK and you're probably not.

  • The canon hd camera is the best and is used by the BBC.

  • why is the upper letter box shaking? it is weird.

  • good question.

  • I was wondering the same thing too...

  • Thanks for the video. I'm deciding between the Sony A1 and the JVC 110.

    This is a big help.

  • just curious, where are you thinking of purchasing your camera?

  • I meant to say Canon A1 not Sony. I'm not sure where to buy just yet. I'm still looking. Any suggestions?

  • Thank you. I can vouch for the XHA1, it's a great machine.
