  • Very god video, was interesting to watch. Since English is my first language I didn't learn much, but it was a bit of a brush up. I now see all the things I do wrong lol. One thing I didn't actually know that i found interesting was the difference in quotation marks-American and British. Great video.

    u doin good job here

  • "Punctuation" was a little bit difficult for me. I am used to listening your lesson at first without reading subtitles and then check myself. But this time I didn't know a lot of words.I think your new lesson will keep me busy for several days. Thank you. Irina

  • Hello, James!

I was so upset with your decision to delete your blog, that I havent even look throw youtube for your new lesson. Thats why my letter (I wrote you in your blog the day before yesterday) concerned your previous lesson (The human body). Irina

  • thanks !

  • i really like the place u r teaching in this lesson and i like ur lesson too. i waited ur lesson!

  • In general English punctuaction is similar to spanish punctuation.

    Thanks Mr Duncan.

  • Hey Duncan, i'm from Chile. ! This way to teach and learn english is very good, it's a very good idea i'd say. Congratulations.

  • Thank you very much! I'm realy want to learn English. Your lessons are very interesting and they help me to study it

  • Thanks again. In this lesson I used British English examples. The Punctuation rules are different in each country. (As I said in the lesson) The rules for quotation marks are: Direct quote-the punctuation is in the quote marks. Indirect quote or phrase- the punctuation goes outside the quote marks. This does NOT apply in American English. These days the double quote marks are used the most in general writing: letters and notes. General punctuation does improve with practice. (Misterduncan)

  • @duncaninchina not ready

  • However I try, I guess I will never learn these rules. Comma is more much used in my native language in comparison with the english.

  • When there is just one word in quotation marks at the end of the sentence, do you place the full-stop or comma inside the quotation marks or outside?

  • Mr Duncan, you didn't explain why the comma is sometimes put outside the quotation marks and sometimes inside - what are the rules?. This is something that confuses me to this very day.

  • Really usefull indeed! Punctuation is a difficult tast for everyone! Thanks again misterduncan! And it's a very nice place you were at! Hope I could visit England some day!

  • thanks MRduncan, your lessons are getiing better and better with the time.

    Bye bye from Spain!

  • WOW! the best lesson I've seen so far

What a wonderful manner in teaching!

this lesson is very very very useful.

    thanks Mr.Duncan

  • The comma is the most confusing of them all. I´ve been learning English for so many years but I don´t understand the way it is used anyway. Compared to my first language, the rules are just different. :-/ ___ As far as I know, the people in continental Europe use the double quotation marks... so I guess the british grammar could be an exception. ___ Than you very much for posting this :-).

  • Thank you for the comment. The rules surrounding the quotation marks do change from country to country. In most common writing, the double ones are used, but in 'standard' British English the single ones are used. There are even times when both are used-if you are writing direct and indirect speech in the same sentence.

    (Misterduncan)
