I,heard a Bigband number, Today and they took the Melody Line right out of this , Forgot who did it,changed the TITLE but either way , aint orig. appreciate this for what it is and who they are ...
Was at the Army Lang. School, now the Defense Language Institute. The average scholastic level among the students was about 2 years of college. Lots talent there. When we were off duty and studies finished, it was not unusual to hear Bunyan Webb playing one of the many styles of guitar he'd mastered, or Dale Bates playing The MJQ while he painted a small masterpiece. Amazing!
First heard this while at Presidio of Monterey, CA in '58-'59 on an album called "One Never Knows." The version was much slowed down. Great sittin' & sippin' sound.
percy heath, john lewis, connie kay, milt jackson... so independent and so dependable... a quintessential melange of four of the finest audiophile's dreams...
How often can you use Jazz and Sophistication in the same sentence ? Look at the grooming(and crisp cuffs) of John Lewis.Masters of chamber music jazz.
Yeah, tone was everything to Percy. It was so big and fat that he lagged behind in his solos more than once. But he is my alltime bass favourite. I don't care so much for the flamenco fastness of NHOP and LaFaro. Tone is technique, too, and to me it's more important.
Best bassplayer of all time...

Nice music.
If I am not mistaken, this music was recorded in the evening of July 16, 1982 in the PWA room in the Congress building in the Hague, the Netherlands.

Never used to listen to jazz. After hearing some Bob Acri, I went on a search for more jazz music and I found out about MJQ. I've been missing out!

The syncopated rhythm combined with classic sound makes MJQ the best representation of jazz for music lovers around the world.

this swings - although Percy almost lost the plot mid-way through his solo - nice to hear one more version of this MJQ classic.

I'd have to go with Paul Chambers, but Mr. Heath is definitely one of the greats.

Same here. Heath is great. Chambers is the best.
