The band never expected or was really prepared for the success they were going to have. They never thought they'd have to tour for 2 years straight and crank out 3, #1 albums in the span of 5 years.

They simply got overwhelmed by the publicity and work commitments and they said enough is enough, they need some time off.

It seems to me Serj, Daron, Shavo & John always thought they'd be playing at bars & clubs in L.A. for the rest of their lives.
