  • HI! Can you tell me what,s the model of dimarzio use i like this sound thanks!

  • Hey scotbis! I really like your tone, (I think many people would agreed with that to!) I was wondering, what picks do you use? I really like the sound you get when you hit the strings. It gives a real nice 'bite' although it looks like you're barely touching them :) Thanks!

  • Scotbis, what guitar is that?

  • @doomednicron It is a guitar made by a French luthier, he is called Xavier Petit.

  • Are you just using a 3-way switch? Any coil tap???

  • I see that you have used the Air Zone in the bridge position as well. Do you prefer one to the other? I personally like the tone with the Air Zone a bit more, but your playing is brilliant either way. Nice work.

  • Do you mind telling me the wood combinations and construction for me please? It would be a big help since I'm planning on throwing these on a Ibanez JEM to see if it'll thicken the sound out to what you have, thank you and please keep posting videos. Good to know more than some kid named Matt ( XD ) is rocking in France

  • speak engwrish!

    jk you are awesome

  • Awesome tone.. Im currently considering replacing the infinity pickups in my rg350 which i use rarely because i dont like the noise of them.. think you have made my mind up for me!! .. these pickups rock.. and of course you do too!!! thanks for the post!

  • Are these two pickups good for drop tuning to Eb?

  • YOU`RE GREAT!!!!

  • @magicthunder666 Thank you very much!!!!!!!!!!

  • Great Pickups! I had a set in a really cheap guitar and they still sounded fantastic.

  • Boner atteint.

  • hmmm if i find some audio of the clean dry tone i can run it trough my effects and amp and modellers to see what it sounds like hmm

  • I already waited that there comes: "Hi, this is Paul from guitarworld, bla bla bla..."

    Luckily not this time!

  • Are you running any pedals or is that straight distortion from your amp? I love it. Very Paul Gilbert-esque

  • I just put the tone zone in. And a three way switch for series/single/parallel in. If you got the time to learn how to do it it my be worth putting a switch in. When this humbucker is in series its pretty sweet. Its more single coil style but still fatter than a single coil. In series mode combined with single coil its really nice. And in single coil mode at bridge its not as harsh as a regular single coilI have 250k pot. The bass is very fat which is very nice. Harmonics everywhere.

  • This in comparison to the Dimarzio Mo Joe. I too noticed the "compressed" feel to the Tonezone, which I own. Does the Mo Joe have a more... "open/brighter" feel to it?

Recommended for a Basswood Axe? (Mo Joe)

  • It's 4 o'clock (AM) and you made me feel like pickin' up the guitar.. Darn you! : D

    thank you ^^

  • I can't understand French but anyways...

I love your tone! I'm also thinking of putting a Tone Zone bridge + PAF Pro neck on my Ibanez RG, or both positions on PAF Pros. Which one suits better? I play old school hard rock, metal, hendrix.

  • I now appreciate less the Ton zone, I find D sonic curiously less compress and more pleasant to play.

  • @scotbis how about both neck and bridge on PAF Pros? with 5-way switching?

  • Im getting the tone zone for Christmas... I cant wait its going in my strat. I cant wait to see what is sounds like to have the humbucker and the single coil interact. God i love how the notes break up After the sutain like the guitar has had to much and cant take it any more!!!!

  • what guitar is he using?

  • It's made by a french guitar maker, his name is Xavier Petit, the basic model is the model "Jean Fontanille", not expansive(money).

  • @scotbis hmm ok.. that's pretty cool!

  • i always watch reviews in other languages, some people just hear a different language and go to another video and don't reallise how good some people actually are.!

  • his french sounds really convincing

  • @scotbis what effects did you use on the video? because im getting thee pickups and im curious on how they sound without any effects

  • interesting picking technique, and interesting phrasing too! guitar also looks nice!

  • oh man you have a GREAT tone and play REALLY great!!! love this and the duncan tb4 video. i dunno why but listening to you makes me go back in time to the 70s when bands like scorpions and ufo where the kings of rock. :)

  • Thank you very much...

  • @scotbis Nice Playing But you've got more pickups then Larry Dimarzio

  • Based on the OP's playing style and his pickup choices it sounds as if Steve Vai were playing through John Petrucci's rig... which would hardly be a *negative* thing in my book. I like Vais playing but think his tone is FAR too squashed and "digital" (almost if he were using EMGs) which I'm sure comes from using a rack and playing through a monstrous amount of effects *constantly*. Tone like this would only IMPROVE Vai's recordings, live shows, and I think his playing in general.

  • Nice playing for a demo.Worldwide brotherhood =guitar jam.

  • You sound just like Rob Marcello! Muy Bueno!

  • how does this combo sound clean / on breakup? are split postions good?

  • YOU'RE GOOD! =)

  • what's pedal and amp used in this video?

  • hello, great playing. Is your Tone Zone in the bridge position? pardon my ignorance :)

  • Great tone with distortion, soft but agressive, from both pickups. In my opinion, the clean lacks some bright, but it's probably from your amp setup or configuration, not from your guitar.

  • Salut !

    Merci

  • perfect playing, amazing tones, amazing songs

  • thank you so much for the demo! i've been trying the hear the sound on these pickups combined and this helped a lot! Great demo by the way! you play really well!

  • I like your style of vibrato. It's very smooth and controlled.

  • Does anyone know or have a video demostrating DiMarzio's Norton DP160? The EQ and Description seem to make it a perfect bridge pickup for Epiphones, Deans.

  • Outstanding demo!

  • Thank you very much!!

  • Great tone!

At 2:27 is a song? If yes, what is the name of the song (and artist), please?

  • I don't know really.

  • @Kyrran I think it is this (beethoven's 5th)

    _4IRMYuE1hI

  • @Kyrran sounds a lot like Yngwie or joe stump

  • WHAT THE HELL R U SAYING!!!?????

  • Amen bro! I don't need a translator to hear the soul in those strings!

  • That is very nice and I appreciate that my friend...

  • Promised, in a forthcoming life, I would learn English but not the guitar.

There the language does not have importance since the sound is heard.

It is nevertheless my native language and it has the right to exist my dear friend.

  • @scotbis

Of course it has but the internet is a space to communicate with everyone and not just with french. So just for the sake of equality speaking or writing in english is one of the major unwritten rules of international communities like youtube.

  • I watch every day some videos in english, we can accept to see some videos in french, this is egality.

I say another thing, a sound test has not language, open your ears please!

  • @MrCptGonzo So you are saying that themany million non-english speakers have no right to the internet and youtube?

  • @scotbis your english is perfect. i dunno what's even going on here but it sounds like someone's been trolling this page as usual.

the language of guitar spreads much further than any natural language ever could.

  • @scotbis music is the best language

  • @scotbis Agreed. You just need to know about music to appreciate that kind of tone. Great work with the pickups, by the way, although the "tone" comes more from the fingers, does it not?

  • @MrCptGonzo maybe because he is french?! and if you dont like it then go and watch a review with someone who is english, not hard? your the one whos selfish thinking everyone should just revolve around you

  • @gunsnrosesful you just got trolled....

  • @MrCptGonzo You expect everyone to speak english even if it may not be their most comfortable language? THAT is selfish.

  • @imbaguitar

    No, I'm not saying that.

It would be selfish of me If I expected him to talk german, which is my mother language.

But I'm just asking for him to, at least, subtitle it so that everyone can understand.

Yes, many million non english users, but even more non french speaking users. Keep that in mind.

  • You sound like George lynch...sweet playing !!

  • Hey, great playing.

I was wondering if you had had the chance to play with this pickup pair in a live/band setting, and if so, does the Tone Zone cut through the mix as much as the Air Norton does?

I find that the Air Norton has waaaay more midrange and comes across as being louder, despite being a lower output pickup.

Any info or anything would be appreciated, thanks :)

  • What amp and effects are you using for the distortion?

  • The amp is a French amp: N.O.S Custom Amp, 100w with four EL34(E.H).

    The cab is a N.O.S 4x12 with 2 Greenbacks(g12m) in top and 2 V30 in bottom.

I use the distortion of the amp.

    I have a Maxon od808 in front.

In the loop, i have a TC vintage delay, a T-rex room mate(reverb) and an ISP decimator(noise gate).

  • The tone zone is being put in my guitar this week. Just took it to the shop.

  • Hi scotbis, nice playing!

Can you tell me whether artificial armonics are as easy to get with the "Tone Zone" as with the "Mo Joe" or "FRED"?

  • Perhaps Fred but all the chain of the sound is also to take into account (amp, overdrive, effects)

The Evo2 is also good for articial armonics.

    Thanks

  • That Air Norton got the perfect tone for neo-classical playing... I'll buy it ! DAMN !

Hey, i got a question... I don't know much DiMarzio pickups... Which PU have enough gain to make pinch harmonics scream and would be a good partner to that Air Norton ?

  • Steves Special, Norton, D-Sonic, Evo 1 or 2, Tone Zone...most of the medium to high gain pups match up pretty nicely with the air norton just check out Dimarzio. com

  • @T3l1uS The tone zone / true velvet

  • HAHAHA - That's exactly the combination I have on my guitar. The TZ in particular is very impressive.

  • damn...

  • beautiful playing... awesome pickups and guitar, too

  • These pickups are amazing

  • Very Good Stuff Man

    Q: )

  • Have you tried Dimarzio's Super 3 and PAF Pro?

  • Not, I did not test but I thought of it.

  • @scotbis If the dimarzio website is correct. That combo should allow for a great deal of layer of effects, but I wouldn't suggest it with a dark sounding guitar. Pretty warm combo. Hope you decide to do a vid. An thank you for the replies.

    Merci.

  • duuude... your voice was like really boring but then you started lashing out those sick metal licks, i have 1 thing to say to you...

Voulez-vous coucher avec moi ce soir?

  • Je ne suis pas libre ce soir!

  • oh =[

  • Comment removed

  • hahaha you did not just ask what i think you asked

  • maybe ;]

  • Scotbis, you play very well. Good technique, great musical sensibility. After seeing so many blokes here who cannot play, you are refreshing.

  • Thank you very much to have written that.

  • De rien, scotbis.

  • Buckethead used this configuration?

  • So a lot if people think (I don't think they are any official sources saying what he uses although his new Les Paul signature guitar has Gibson 496R and 500T)

  • Starting at 4:06 what pick-up are you using, also I am in the market for pick-up and was wondering what DiMarzio give more of a crunch sound the Air Zone or the Tone Zone.

  • At 4:06, it's the Tone zone.

The Tone zone is more compressed, the Air zone is more open.

For a crunch sound, Mo Joe and Paf Joe is a good config.

  • hey that was great, cause im gettin some DiMarzio pickups for my RG350....

Im thinkin Tone Zone & Super Distortion, the only problem is that there both recomended in the bridge position. I might put the Super Distortion as the neck pickup

    .......would u advise this?

  • The Super distortion will be too much powerful in neck position.

  • oh, well if its too powerfull, how come Paul Gilbert uses a High-powered pickup like superdistortion on the neck?

.......or r u just saying u THINK its to powerfull or ur type of music isnt that genre.....?

  • I know that Paul Gilbert used this configuration, certainly with a specific wiring and the pickup handle very far away from the strings.

  • are u running any effects with the pickups in this video or is the sound the natural sound of the pickups?

    thanks

  • I have a equa Mxr ten band, I do not know more if I make use of it in this video.

    I use a delay.

This couple of pickups is not adapted to all the guitars, to bore mix they are not the best.

I will like to test them on a maple fretboard.

    (excuse my bad english)

  • your english was good and thanks for that

  • This vid proves music is a langauge.

Great tone sir! I think I will be putting a Tone Zone in my DK2 now. :D

  • Thank you very much sir!

  • le tone zone hahaha

  • you look "french" in my opinion. its a good look for you!

  • What is your setup? What kind of distortion/overdrive/amp EQ settings etc? If you'd be so kind as to share I would appreciate it much!

  • N.O.S custom amp(EH el34)

    Cab N.O.S 4x12 (Greenbacks/V30)

    Maxon od808

In the loop, i have a TC electronic vintage delay and a T-rex room mate.

  • Thank you so much for the info!!

  • killer demo man, 5 stars. i was wondering what the specs on your guitar is. what type of wood is it? i got a new guitar and it has mahogany body and neck, and an ebony fretboard. i was wondering how well the tone zone would compliment my new guitar. thanks :)

  • Mahogany and maple for the body and maple/ebony for the neck.

    Thanks

  • nice video. I got the Tone Zone/Air Norton combo for my Ibanez s prestige. It was a great improvement sonically.

  • Comment removed

  • Nice tone, I'm thinking of getting Tone Zone.

I just picked up one of your runs too. It's good to see you've got good ears and beat. Merci

  • whatzupa,

The Tone zone is super, I like it much with a Paf pro.

    Thanks

  • Have you tried a Fred in the neck instead of Air Norton? Maybe something to think about.

  • Do you prefer mahogany, korina, koa? Warmer woods. I ask cause Seymour Duncan seems to work well those previously mention woods.

  • I don't know korina and koa, i like mahogany and rosewood for the fretboard.

On this guitar the neck is made with maple/ebony.

  • Thank you. lol. I will stop bothering you.

  • No the problems, my English is surely funny sometimes.

  • Mr Scott Bis. Do you have other pickup combo that you demo?

  • Yes, i have a pickups test on a playlist "pickups and guitar test"

  • Thank you. I just noticed last night that you have other vids with other pickup combos. Sorry, I am alittle slow. Since you have skill with a guitar have you thought about doing a test comparsion of Seymour Duncan vs Dimarzio?

  • Both make excellent things, I like much the pair sh4/sh1.

  • What kind of wood is this guitar made of?

  • For the body, mahogany/maple.

    For the neck, maple/ebony

  • Beginner question coming your way. Does it matter if the neck pickup is F-spaced or is it just bridge pickups?

  • F-Spaced pickups are typically for Fender guitars but it doesn't really matter as long as the strings don't go over the edge of the pickup.

  • f spaced pickups are more for floyd rose equipped guitars actually because the spacing is generally a little wider some non tremolo guitars like telecaster thinlines have slightly wider spacing and are f spaced as well

  • Sooo neck pickup. F spaced or regualar on a tremolo equipped guitar. Which would be better?

  • f spaced on any kind with a tremolo i put them on my ibanez prestige and they worked great. im going to put them on my new ibanez s540

  • F spaced are only BRIDGE position pickups....every guitar Floyd Trem, Fender Trem or non Trem go with a regular in the NECK POSITION, always...remember "F" is only for the Bridge of a Floyd equipped guitar...

  • Thank you. DID I ask a question that offended you?

  • Not at all....why? I just wanted to clear up this issues for you as I don't want anyone to mislead you with wrong info...

  • Don't I feel like a jerk. I actually go on one of Larry DiMarzio's youtube threads and ask these kind of questions. But I think he might just have had enough of me. lol. So again thank you.

  • Hi

    It's the most envious tone.

Which pickup from Dimarzio or SD stable do you suggest for a swamp ash body and all maple neck combo? I intend to play vintage music and no shredding at all.

    Thanks

    VM

  • we we we . i like zi ton zon .

  • SWEET! this is the exact combination I've been looking at and this got me even more hyped up. I love that tone. I have an Ibanez S740DX

  • seymours suck dimarzios all the way!!!!!

  • Yeah and blue is way better than green.

  • Can you do another vid of this configuration in a clean channel, with these pickups in hum/coil tapped single coil modes?

  • Not for the moment, but if I install them again, why not

  • hey man nice playing! i have a stratocaster and i put a seymour duncan sh-4 on the bridge and a sh-1 mini humbucker on the neck. do you think its a good idea or it would be better for a stratocaster to put DiMarzio pickups?

    Thank you

  • Translation:

I'm gonna respond to this question in French. I don't play strats so I wont give you any advice. I saw a guy playing a strat with an sh4 and it sounded really good. Dimarzio strat pickups
