Theyself is correct Bill Berry left in Oct1997, eight years after this clip. I remember seeing this song live in Dublin on the Green Tour. The image of Stipe banging the chair has stayed with me to this day. 10/10

@cpkuhnen I am old enough to have seen them do this song on the Green tour, back in 89 (I still have the tour programme somewhere) and Stipe did the Gang of Four intro in Dublin at the RDS Simmonscourt Pavilion, too. I also read most of the reviews of the UK gigs on that tour, and he did it pretty regularly, apparently.

@karmapolicemannn I agree. I think that Green was the last absolutely great album REM made, and that this is the finest song on it. I am not a snob; I was so excited that they suddenly started to get really famous, but at the same time I was hating the records that they made. To this day I think Monster and New Adventures are the only decent albums since Green.

he had a brain aneurysm during the monster tour and the end result was him leaving the band to have a less stressful life as a farmer in georiga. He has played with them since on occasion, however. Bill is awesome.

Actually, he had his aneurysm within a month or so after this show. It was during the european part of the Green Tour in 1990 and the band had to cancel many gigs in W Germany and elsewhere, not the Monster Tour which was in '94-'95ish.

Seeing this live on tour when it was new was incredible. Their early to mid 80's shows were uinique, electric things. Energetic, moody, spontaneous---that's why they are in the HOF. Not too many chances to see them without Bill after this.

Ive seen REM 17 or 18 times dating back to 84 but the Green tour sealed the deal, at that time they may have been THE best band in the world challenged only by U2. I saw them at the FOX in Atlanta 2 nights in a row and to quote Pulp Fiction" God damn I say God Damn"

I agree with you regarding their status after Green. The megaphone, banging on the chair, the stipe shuffle. Bono didn't have anything on Michael. So damn interesting to watch and lyrics have all thinking they were written for each of us. Example You are the Everything!

Question?? The show at the Fox did they play the entire Murmur album and then the Green album in exact order? They finished off with Fall on me, Low and one other I can't remember.
