  • Allah only knows a little bit about what God Only Knows what i'd be about you ;)

  • god only knows!!!! the best song i love it

  • Personally I don't like this period of the Beach Boys (only the surfrocker), but this is one of the most beautiful love song!

  • @Stratoscar100 I understand you.. most people think, that the beach boys are a band, that only plays Rock'n'Roll and Surfrock, but this is music in his beauty!!! Brian Wilson is soooo underrated, he's the Mozart of the 60's!!!!

  • Brilliant!

    I'm sharing this.

  • I heard that when the lads done sgt peppers Brian through in the towel because there was no way they could compete against such a work of music genius as the beatles

  • @TheWiggz22 No, that's not true. Do some research. Sgt Pepper was a tiny factor in the abandonment of Smile, which was a factor in Brian's (slow) step down from normal life.

What you've said is a load of rubbish.

  • best song ever.............................

  • 99 people are not in love.

  • @saccopedo God only knows... how thats possible.

  • Comment removed

  • Doesn't get better than this....peace.

  • These guys kind of gave the Beatles a musical run for their money. In retrospect this seems to be brilliance.

  • @dooksnob I can't say that often enough! i agree with you!! ;)

  • @dooksnob True but Brian was stunned when he heard Rubber Soul and that is part of why he was motivated to create Pet Sounds - an attempt to match the brilliance of the Beatles. 'I really wasn't quite ready for the unity. It felt like it all belonged together. Rubber Soul was a collection of songs ... that somehow went together like no album ever made before, and I was very impressed. I said, "That's it. I really am challenged to do a great album."' Both amazing albums of brilliance. :)

  • @LaurenBoxhall Although all that being said, 'Pet Sounds' influenced the Beatles to create their concept album, that little one called 'Sgt. Peppers'. So it's a full circle, really. ;)

  • everytime this song comes on iTunes I end up listening to it at least 5 times in a row

    feels good man

  • thank you, "Boogie Nights"!

  • simply awsome n loving song... it realy hurts when friends go away.. :(...

  • Bowie get this song more passionate

  • @vladlenko2006 I love Bowie, I love the Beach Boys... but my god, that's got to be the worst cover of anything I've ever heard :S

  • @Karateworm your opinion - that's surprisingly!

  • I going to cry, i don't know why

  • The Wonder Years' episode Heartbreak brought me here.

  • Skins, anyone?

  • One of the best songs ever written

  • 'I may not always love you' is one of the best opening lines to a love song ever.

  • @TenWhoWereTaken lol. it's true.

  • @corpsemunger well, he's a very very highly respected person in music, and if you can do better, do it and listen to your own work rather than coming on here and moaning about what the beach boys could have done better.

  • @frodobaginsatheshire NNNNNNNNNNNNYYYYYYYYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

If I could think of such lines ..

  • GTA V soundtrack.

  • My favourite part was 0.00 - 2.53

  • thumbs up for skins !

  • hey fluffy band. but this song is up there with the most important, from mozart to the present time.timeless and brilliant...

  • Best justification I ever heard for suicide in this song. Not wanting to sound morbid; Beach Boys just evoke a lot in a listen...

  • my gosh, my heart grows and grows, listening to this o.o

  • This song is far more sadder when you can relate to its meaning, i guess God Only Knows

  • Great band, but only three songs that are on a truly high level.

  • 1966 wow this is by far one of the best albums ever fact

  • Only song of the album at St. Peppers' level.

  • I always think of my Dad when I listen to this song.. I love him so much :)

  • love actually

  • This song is magic

  • Comment removed

  • thumbs up for love actually!

  • Generalization, "own logic" wont apply to me. Good riddance :)

  • @NeoArc That comment was to Sage80 - My comment to you is a few posts down...

  • @corpsemunger

shitty is an offensive word, you should stop using it when talking about other musical tastes.

  • my wife will probably never read this comment, but the words of this song express what i can never say to her , god knows why as i feel it every time i see her and we have been together 21 years now but if she does read this at some point in the future then know this pam I LOVE YOU so much that i would die for you and failing that i will work my ass off to give you not only what you want but what you deserve which is more than i have but i am trying and will continue to until i die

  • LOVEACTUALLY!!!!

  • I like it -

I just wish they took out that irritating sleigh bells that relentlessly slap you every beat.

Also the tinny intro could go.

Oh, and the little transition at 1:04

Then it would be a good song!

  • @corpsemunger ya, you're an idiot.

  • @Sage80 I don't think he's even that good. Sounds like another Beaver fan.

  • @Sage80 why? Because I don't share the same taste in music as you?

Do you insult everyone who doesn't have the same opinion as you?

Did your parents not teach you that the world does not revolve around you?

    Music taste is subjective.

  • @corpsemunger because you don't understand musical greatness. go write a Pet Sounds, and then tell me what good music is.

  • @Sage80 It is you that does not understand musical greatness. If you did, you would know that everyone has different tastes and greatness depends on the individual.

It sickens me to hear how you think you are so important, you are delusional - step off your non existent high horse and grow the fuck up.

  • @corpsemunger don't give me that weak cheese excuse that says that Mozart symphonies cannot be considered greater music than justin bieber because music is TOTALLY subjective. you know who makes arguments like that? morons who know nothing about music. go educate yourself. Leave music criticism to the experts.

musical greatness has nothing to do with level of enjoyment for one person. that's a different matter called 'likeability.' for you to sit here and lecture brian wilson. get a life douche

  • @Sage80 I think Brian Wilson wrote a fantastic song - then he went and shoved a shitty tinny synth onto it - with some shitty tinny interludes and some shitty sleigh bells throughout!

I am not "lecturing" anyone, I was stating my opinion - you ought to learn the difference there, I had this clocked when I was about 3 :/

You are an arrogant, nostalgic fogie that is totally in too deep.

music taste IS totally subjective, the fact that I don't like shitty synth and you do proves that.

  • @corpsemunger

"shitty" is a subjective word, stop using it when talking about other musical tastes

  • @NeoArc Oh dear god -

THATS THE POINT I AM MAKING

bloody hell, how stupid can people get

  • @corpsemunger Synth? You realise this song was recorded before synths existed? The arrangement includes piano, harpsichord, two basses, percussion, flutes, strings, to name just the more prominent instruments. No synths. The bells, along with the clip clop of the percussion add a huge amount of feeling to the arrangement to me. This is subjective, I know; but if you don't like it that's no excuse to go and slag it off with vulgar language.

  • @TimothyMcGaw Your probably right, It wasn't really necessary for me to use vulgar language anyway but I was extremely frustrated.

I can appreciate that you like these aspects of the song, thats great. I just wish some of the other commentators understood that not everyone has to like the same thing.

  • @corpsemunger the arrogance of some idiot know nothing telling brian wiolson how he REALLY should've written the song. You deserve to be slapped repeatedly & hard. GO make a career remotely comparable to Wilson's, then tell us how music should be writtern. fucktwad.

  • @Sage80 I am being slapped repeatedly and hard, slapped repeatedly and hard by the bloody Sleigh bells that sound like a bad Christmas song.

Using your own logic, you should not be able to even like this song-since your musical career isn't anything on Wilson's-how dare you comment? What makes you think you have the right to have an opinion on this untouchable greatness?

This is my last post here, well done for confirming my original hypothesis that all real Beach Boys are nostalgic fogies

  • @corpsemunger your very youtube tag tells us your a dumb fuck metal head tiprat.if you could create something as great as this. i would bow at your feet. but judging by your comment. the only one bowing, will be you. in front of your gay mates.so they can fuck your stinky arse.grab your ankles sunshine.

  • @jibhorse metal head? Pahahaha

That was the worst string of insults I think I have ever heard... you can do better than that - go away and have a good think then come back with something better.

  • @corpsemunger why,yes indeed i could do much better than that.but wearing this splendid cardigan of mine.and holding my trusted briar pipe.i must keep some civility in these exchanges.tally-ho mr corpse.

  • @corpsemunger It sickens me to hear how you think you are so important, you are delusional - step off your non existent high horse and grow the fuck up.

  • @matt1312 In what way does my opinion about this song look like I think I am "so important"... I think it is you that is delusional matey.

Music taste is subjective, some people like one thing, some like another. That is fine.

In your own words... "grow the fuck up"

  • @corpsemunger ok... i have a fantastic idea, you go and write a song that sir paul mccartney says is the best song of all time, then you can criticize it.

  • @frodobaginsatheshire SO many massively important people in "the music biz" say this is an amazing song-we r in good company, iam 35 and i have loved this since i was 13

  • @frodobaginsatheshire Who gives two shits what Paul Mccartney likes? So because Paul Mccartney likes donner kababs should I like them aswell? bloody hell. For the zillionth time - MUSIC TASTE IS SUBJECTIVE. I LIKE THE SONG I LOATH THE PRODUCTION MY OPINION IS IRRELEVANT YOUR OPINION IS IRRELEVANT SIR PAUL MCCARTNEYS OPINION IS IRRELEVENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • @corpsemunger I tend to agree with you. To me, the melody the harmony, the lyrics and the vocal arrangement and interpretation are plain genius. But the instrumental arrangement is somewhat crowded, although it is very innovative for the time. Anyway, everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

  • @frodobaginsatheshire That's not a fantastic idea, it's a fucking stupid idea. You're an idiot. Appreciation of music is not something that is limited to popular musicians. Criticism is an art in its own rights.

There is no need to match someone's achievements in order to criticise their work, it's an immature idea. As brilliant as McCartney was, there are a lot of critics whose opinions I'd rely on over his. How about you come up with some opinions of your own instead of fellating McCartney's?

  • I'm a 21st century 14 year old, and I honestly wish I lived in this era.

  • Just simply 1966. That, 1967, and 1969 the best 3 years for musical creation ever.

Why do we have to get old?

  • @pocketsymphone

    same

  • Beautiful...

  • Reminds me of school, vietnam, and a girl I liked who was killed in a car crash when we were at school

  • wtf lol my school SG Rietlanden has bring me here XD

  • Thumbs up if the fact that you know what decent music is, brought you here!!!

  • That 19-year-old boy didn't realize that he was recording this, it would go on to become his signature song. What a lucky kid.

  • RIP Jimmy Leeward and P51 Galloping Ghost...

  • Love actually <3

  • I'll never be able to describe the way I feel when I listen to this.

  • this song is one of paul mccartneys favourite song ever

  • @TheScouserkidda

Paul McCartney is my all time favorite musician, and The Beatles are my favorite band (that is unrelated to the song though). "So what good would living do me?" as suicidal as it is beautiful. That my friend is poetry. This is the type of song I'll remember through my lifetime. I love it.

  • @TheScouserkidda He described it as the best song ever written. High praise!

  • dapp da da damdamdamda ooh... ooh..

  • 93 people are atheists, no, wait, just plain deaf and stupid.

  • seeing brian and his band play this at bestival made me cry, it was so beautiful

  • 93 people are deaf.

  • @1LLUS1ONS there really is no other explanation. such a beautiful song

  • Who gives a damn about who or what sent you here, just enjoy the music!

  • what's the song with the video clip of all the happy people in a park?

  • This HAS to be the GREATEST song ever made........ It's perfect

  • Goosebumps. Everytime. :)

  • This along with A Day In the Life changed Music Forever............

  • @aniqwertyani absolutely!!!

  • Sublime

  • I may not always love 92 people

  • I guess it doesn't really matter, but my grandpa was diagnosed with aggressive prostate cancer and I can't bear losing him, not with all the shit that's being going on my life right now. This song somehow summarizes perfectly the fears of losing someone, it's not that you can't live without them, but living without them leaves the world flavorless and without color. It's beautiful.

  • @guanaesantonio sorry to hear about your grandad mate.

  • 92 dislikes ! I cannot believe there are 92 people in the whole world who do not adore this masterpiece .

  • Wilsons' voice leading from the bridge back into the chorus @ 1:27 is possibly the greatest part of this album.

    Brilliant!!

  • This Song was the song which made Katy Perry fall inlove with music!

  • @BeccaKatyCat i wish she never heard it

  • @MrStarbucks1989 mind your manners!

  • @MrStarbucks1989 Me too lol! Funny how she loves this song and yet her songs are nothing like this!! Just a pile of over produced modern crud!

  • God Only Knows (Pet sounds) vs A Day in the Life (Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band)

  • @peruvian121

A day in the Life wins 100% It's so perfect in every way.

  • nice calming relaxing song

  • Thanks to VW advert its gone from 200,000 to 1 million :DDD Well thats wat i reckon.

    Its a great song !!

  • @swfc502 You're probably right, i wonder if younger folks nowadays know of the beach boys. Having said that i was still born after this album came out, incredible!

  • This song is the only piece of art I can honestly say is, from top to bottom, perfect. To think a human being can produce this sound is beyond incredible

  • @HocoRT - Welcome to YouTube. People will argue /about/ anything /on/ anything here.

  • And how are the Beatles are better than this....?

  • @SixTailights McCartney said once this is the best pop song ever written...

  • @zzajbird Haha, yes - I know that. But I was gently remarking that the Beach Boys could express feelings that appeal to a wider audience than the Beatles did.

  • the most beautiful song ever recorded!

  • well be4 my time, but an absolute timeless classic

  • I like the skins version

  • Oh how great life was before autotune...
