@Brucev7 "If a fellow Hebrew, ... sells himself to you and serves you six years, in the seventh year you must let him go free.... But if your servant says to you, "I do not want to leave you," because he loves you and your family and is well off with you, 17 then take an awl and push it THROUGH HIS EAR LOBE INTO THE DOOR, and he will become your servant for LIFE." Deuteronomy 15:12-15
@eproulx These are your words-"Let's be concrete and use an example. Do you think God condones slavery?" There is a difference between condone and allow. Once again, you miss free choice.
God Bless you and your postings in sharing Gods Word.

Very interesting video.
Although I'm an atheist I agree with not taking things out of context.
Plus I have to admit the first part is one of the few good examples of morality in the bible. (I wish all the bible had good examples of morality.)

@eproulx The Bible has rules for living and is a historical record. Too many falsely believe that all that is in the Bible, God condones.

@Brucev7: Interesting. Let's be concrete and use an example. Do you think God condones slavery? Deuteronomy 15:12-15; Ephesians 6:9; Colossians 4:1
eproulx 1 year ago
@eproulx No. But that was a way that kept people alive in those times.

This is a RULE of god here. Deuteronomy 11:1
Explain, how god is NOT ALLOWING slavery?

@eproulx the problem is the word slave, quit thinking of early 20th century Alabama
the word in the hebrew simply means "hired help" like a butler, or a maid,
servants were very grateful to work them

Characteristics of slavery in the bible:
1- Slaves are property. Leviticus 25:44 Exodus 21:20-21
2- Slavery can be permanent. Leviticus 25:44,
3- Permanent slaves must be marked. Exodus 21:2-6
4- Slaves can be beaten (maybe killed, depends). Exodus 21:20-21 Luke 12:47-48
5- Slaves are supposed to be scared of their master. Ephesians 6:5
6- Sex slavery is allowed. Exodus 21:7-11
