I find this song, particularly this recording, to be cathartic rather than something to make you wanna end it all: no sentiment, pure bile spewing self-loathing. "Let's confront the demons head on." ...And now that we've got this out of our system let's get on with living.

Probably my fave "dark" song when I was an angst ridden teen in the '70s.

Then in my angst ridden 20s I discovered Joy Division's "Closer".My God, the whole f'ing album reads like a poetic suicide note,& singer/lyricist Ian Curtis hanged himself before the atmospheric,compelling LP was released. But now that I'm a slightly better adjusted old fart, I haven't the stomach for a steady diet of despairing poetics.But I had a bad day today&this old chestnut fits the bill once more.Thanks Leonard!
