We had a Magnavox console similar to this we bough in '68, it was one of the first new 25" rectangular tube sets.. It had the whole Hi-Fi setup and really sounded great. The TV itself wasn't all that reliable though,we got to know Chuck from Tallman TV repair pretty well, in fact we even named a pet after him!
That's a nice clean-looking cabinet. I like the way the TV controls are up with the receiver, rather than to the right of the screen. The sound is a little tinny though; I wonder if the bass is all the way down. Those Astro-Sonic consoles could usually shake the house!
what kind of wood is it constucked out of? maybe take some 'old english w stain' to the nicks. i would not refinish it becouse it could reduce value. whats the name on the bakelite composite AM radio, i collect them too, i have about 30 or so. i have 6000 vinyl albums,2000 cassettes, 3000 cds, 700 8-tracks,250 reels for reel to reel, plus sheet music and books on music, and the equiptment to play all, if you like old radios & music you'd go nuts at my place
@jjiiiivii The radio is a General Electric. It's missing a couple tubes, and I think it probably has a bad filter cap but I love it just the way it is.... The design of that radio, and the color suits me perfectly... I don't know what the console is built out of, all I can say is it's heavier than you can imagine... I've never tried to count all my records, 8 tracks, etc. but I'm sure I've got my fair share as well, haha.
nice find, i collect concole radios / stereos, i got 16, or 17, all over the house. all working and in great condition, some ive paid for, some a picked up for free. i dont have any with a t.v., i guess im more of a music guy! however there is a old zenith radio concole with t.v. at an antique store that i would like to buy. saw it at xmas for $145 since then it has dropped in half, its now $70. i like to see drop to $50, if it dont sell first
@chrisw71 I haven't replaced anything on this set. Every once in about three records the turn table will produce this hellish squeek and the record slows down, wow and flutter, I guess its called. Honestly I'm afraid to take this apart and replace anything other than the stylus, but thats working just fine right now... This set works just as great as it did the day I hauled it out of the ditch on highway 30 haha. Someday I'll have to do a video on the TV portion...
does the tv work

Did you have to replace the idler & stylus on the turntable? It plays very well.
