BMW should stick to the sport touring market with their overpriced, heavy bikes.
I'm not impressed with the latest K1200R and its 531 lbs curb weight, 163 HP, 42 mpg and 15k plus price tag. It's clearly outmatched by the Japanese market.
The K1300R is an upgraded model of K1200R with higher engine power and torque. That bike is really fantastic. I am going to buy one on Mon, next week. Wish me luck!
There is just nothing purposeful, elegant or any "unified whole" to bikes that are styled like this. I seem to see it a lot in some of the newer bmw's. Is this the new definition of beautiful? To me it just looks cluttered and busy, for the sake of being busy. Some bikes I think look nice? An old rc 30, a 916, moto guzzi breva 750, the original yamaha fzr's, britten v 1000, early generation vfr 750's. Does anyone else think this bike looks ugly? Am I just getting old? I'm only in my thirties.
If Piccaso ever designed a motor bike ....this would be it !!! BMW ..what were u thinkin...this has got to be the ugliest bike i have ever seen .Come on ..u can do better than THIS !!!
theses and the new s1000rr are awsome bt all the other BMWs are for boring old cunts! those gs1200s ride around thinkin they have bin round the world twice, they propably do 1000mile a year lol
I have an 05 sitting in my garage with a blown motor. Cam rod connector came lose and blew a hole on number 4. Mine is not the first and BMW won't help me at all. I was just riding on interstate and boom! My 4th BMW and my last. Bought a B-King. Think twice before you buy a BMW.
I also had an Ossa 250 Stilletto MX, which I bought for $20. I had the engine rebuilt for $400. It had 13:1 compression. It could break your ankle if you kicked it wrong. The Spanish bikes, like the Montesa, are the best for tight trails. I also had a Honda "CB 450 SC" which was OK. My friend had a Honda "CB 750 F." One time he saw a coyote down the street. If that bike hadn't had grab bars on the back, I would have been left behind in the street. The Triumph 500 twin was also good.
Remember, the longer the wheelbase, the slower to go in tight turns. For instance, the Kawasaki H2, the 500 cc 2 stroke, was a drag bike. I pushed it through a tight turn and crashed it. Metzeler tires are the best. Continentals and Michelins are good, but expensive and don't last. Continentals are particularly dangerous because the tread separates from the inner casing. At 127 MPH, the fairing caused an almost fatal wobble (on the R75/6). Pull clutch at 60 in 2nd to do wheelies.
I had a R75/6. Oh man, I had this fat guy on the back and was screaming down the Angeles Crest highway. I went through a turn and could feel the frame flexing. Scary !!! Here's what I do. Go slow and get out of first gear at low revs. Get out of 2nd at slightly higher revs. When you hit third, you can rev pretty high, and after that, you can pretty much rev as high as you want. Also, go real slow on crowned roads (the ones with high centers). The longer the wheelbase, slow in corners
i test rode this bike in VA, and can vouch for its power. not quite as torquey as a triumph but the top end is incredible. flick of the wrist in 6th gear brings you to 100+ without blinking. aside from the obvious, it rides quite comfortably (i own a cruiser)
Top speed of that bike is over 300 km/h, depends on the petrol. BMW bikes are a class of its own, of course more expensive than "normal" bikes, but you can feel it. Take a ride, you'll never fly with another one again, promise! Have fun, Andrew
i ve a question, because i do not know about bikes? bmw is the most reliable bike, right? and i ve heard that italian bikes look nice but are not as reliable as japenese is this correct?
Well, BMW bikes are reliable of course! In general, italian bikes are not so well, don't no why, but it is all the same with most of the products from Italy. The japanese have a long history of bike construction, and so they are in first position in the world. But ... BMW motorcicles are really special, try it out!
I have an '86 FJ1200 and I know well a certain road located in SOCAL; only just this morning got my ass handed to me by an '06 and and '08 - beatuiful bikes and very potent! I got to get me one of these!
hell i'm BMW MOA and I don't believe that because my Hayabusa is the fastest thing on the road i know i'v raced aginst K1200R's kawasaki ZX14's and ducatti 1098 they ant as fast as they say they are
hyabusa's are still the fastest road bike and lot of jap bikes prol could beat this bike because a) They have fairings b) they're chain driven (much lighter) where as this bike is shaft drive which means much smoother ride 8) and more comfortable while still going fast enough and looking good
In 1971 I bought the world's most awesome superbike, the BMW R75/5, so powerful it could do 0-60 in 5.7 seconds. Nothing has inspired me more since then than this new BMW. I have tried to like the FZ1, the Hayabusa and others, but this BMW, the 1200R has me setting a separate account. And better yet, the R75/5 is still going strong.

speed electronically limited to 155 mph. Governor is easy to reprogram, and in top gear at redline 194 is possible in the flat.
