my old best friend just passed his SAS ten day selection course in the new zealand army..he starts training in feb. only 7 out of 50 troops passed selection and 16 other sas possibles that failed tried out for CTTAG counter terrorist tactical assault group..they passed that 3 day selection.. im going in july as a regular rifleman and will be training to pass selection.

selection is 10 days,if you pass.. the cycle for SAS training is now 10 months. its gone from 12 months to nine months now 2010 its 10 months a friend of mine has gone early feb to start his cycle.
it depends on how good you are. you can basically get recruited from any combat and secuirty job, you just have to be extremley determined and show you can prove yourself.

LaFina mate your information cant to accurate, you said before they are recruited from SASR commandos, SASR arent commandos mate, they are in a league of their own, they surpass commandos. You said they recruit from 3RAR, didnt know SF was recruiting paratroopers......think you meant 4RAR mate, which was renamed just recently to 2 CDO (commando) RGT. Just trying to make your information more "accurate" to readers on here.
I believe the SASR and 4RAR Commandos recruit from any branch of the military now.
They say serving in the 3RAR Paratroopers before joining the SASR will give you a taste of the parachute drills you'll have to perform in the Special Forces.
Even if they still only recruit from the army, 3RAR are army. I don't see why the SASR wouldn't recruit paratroopers.

But now a day´s we take care of it our self, they are called the SSG and the SAS personal where really proud over their achievement in Afghanistan!

And the reason the SAS are "celebrities" is because not everybody in the SAS stays in the SAS. It's like a training program and a special force so that the select few who get past the training selection (yes the selection program is also a training program which lasts 2 years) can transfer on their hard learned knowledge over the 6 or so years in the SAS to their mother battalions.

But how many country´s do you invite for training and selection at Hereford? Except for the occasional Aussie, Kiwi, Paddy or Canadian? In the 90´s the Swedish government sent a request of having soldiers trained by the SAS and unofficially around 100 Swedish soldiers went through the selection and training! But now a day´s we take care of it our self, they are called the SSG and the SAS personal where really proud over their achievement in Afghanistan!

Since the Army in Sweden achieved a wholesale killings of civilians in 1931 the Army is no longer aloud to interfere in domestic problems. But I can take a wild guess who they´ll be sending to an occupied embassy! Witch normally lay´s upon the Swedish national "Insatsstyrkan" responsibility witch is the Swedish Swat-team!

And the Spetsnaz has a very limited training compared with other nations elite forces!Its lack of versatility makes them in the top 10 maybe but not the in the 3´d place!

Here we go again.... The SSG´s operates the same way as the SAS and they where selected and trained in Hereford witch no other country´s special forces in the world have been! Their Id´s is classified and the Swedish government denies its existence, just like the Americans and the Delta force!

The SAS did send advisers to a numerous of country´s but no other country except for the occasional Americans or Australians´s been aloud to go through the whole SAS training at location in Hereford! And the GSG9 is runned by the Police the same as the SWAT team! The SSG in Sweden is a part of the Army!

Now a days the Swede´s can come to Hereford for a selection and training by the SAS instructors! From the beinning it was a request by the Swedish armed forces! Eventually´they are gonna take care of their own selection and training! The SSG as they calls it, are totally comparable to the SAS of course!

The SAS is supposed to be the hardest training regime in the world, and the Australian SAS is going to be even harder becuase of the countries climate.

I think I'd rather train in Wales were it rains and its pretty cool. Not bieng covered head to toe in armour wearing a Mk III Gas Mask which isnt confy in a boiling Hot country. Do the math.

There are no other special forces that has been given the full SAS training, besides the Swedísh SSG.The Swedish government sent a request to the british goverment and for the first time in the SAS history foreigner were given the complete SAS training. This were in the 90´s and since then Sweden got a couple of hundred of the best soldiers in the world, capable of antiterrorist attacks as well as regualar missions in the most remote parts of the world!

Dont think so and most sas come from the british para regiment, of the soliders selected for the selection process, on avarage 80% will fail, the remaining 20% will undergo sas training, were more soliders are often lost.

you can apply to join the british army if your country belongs to the commonwealth by regestering at your local recrutment center.
As for the US army, I don't know

join the army u hav to have been in a regiment for abt 2 years (i think) then pass selection and do the 6 month training that has a massive 10% success rate, do some research i found this in all of 2 minutes.

SAS is the name of the british elite regiment, the special air service, france has Groupe d'Intervention de la Gendarmerie Nationale, GIGN, Germany has GSG9, America has Delta Force,. Dont ever say again evry country has SAS!!

He's kinda right, I think he just worded it wrong. NZ and Aus do have SAS; most countries do have SF Units, I think thats what he was trying to articulate, but mixed up SAS and other SFs. You might have already seen it, but theres a 4 episode series on youtube called SAS Down Under thats really good thats about the NZ SAS.

Yes we know, but if there were terrorist attacks in Britain and elsewhere in the world at the same time, Britain would obviously be the priority. Britain 1st, world 2nd. And the SAS aren't just from England, they are from the rest of the U.K and anyone from the British Commonwealth and Ireland can try to get in the SAS!

This is some form of SAS!
The SAS is the mother of all modern day special forces and collaborates with them all.
And the reason the SAS are "celebrities" is because not everybody in the SAS stays in the SAS. It's like a training program and a special force so that the select few who get past the training selection (yes the selection program is also a training program which lasts 2 years) can transfer on their hard learned knowledge over the 6 or so years in the SAS to their mother battalions.

Thats why there is so many "SAS-Wannabes" on these vids! I did my time in the Arctic Rangers of Sweden and I´m proud to have managed through the whole training! The Mountainers of the SAS visited us in Kiruna, northern Sweden! They acted and looked like the total opposite to what I excpected!

basically every SAS operative has written a book about his service
Delta is considered "not real" and not even one person is known on the squad
