@Highretrogamelord89 Yeah, the 3DO is pretty cool. Was lucky to find one for cheap a while back. Would love to find some more games for it though. It has some pretty cool ones.
The outro music is the "Dope Fish Theme" from Commander Keen :D
But all PAL 3DO's displayed images in a square box like that, you really need to get yourself an NTSC machine to get real full screen (if you do get an FZ-10 - the top loader as that's got more RAM in it so you can have music and sound effects in EA games :D)
Never can hide anything from you huh Larry ;) You are of course totally correct on the theme.
I never knew about the FZ-10 having more RAM in it, I need to look out for that one for sure. As for the image quality, well the game does run at a smaller size then any other 3DO games, the title screen with all the copyright crap is also a tad bigger. As soon as the movies start playing it gets cropped to a smaller size.
I'm pretty sure our pal Fijberto did one on this, I think it was one of his first videos. (not saying you ripped him off or anything.) Actually, I found your channel because you one the crazy helicopter game contest lol. Great review as always, 5 stars ;).
I got the Blu Ray versions of Space ace and Dragons Lair, and with the ps3 controller it plays even better then it did on the CD-I. Only problem is Both games tend to free's up alot... Dont know if its a common problem but it seems to get better with some PS3 Updates. It still doesnt run a 100% though But I got it more for nostalgic purposes any way :P
That's to bad really. I don't have them myself (no blu-ray player) so don't know about that. It's a shame though, but yeah nostalgia is probably the only reason you'd want these nowadays anyway hah. How do you like the extra features?
They are pretty cool, there are a couple of nice extras like interviews and transition videos that show how the game looked on the other systems. And you have the option of just watching the videos, so if you suck you can still get to see the ends :P
There is also a demo of Dragons Lair 2 on one of the discs which I though was pretty cool.
If you have the choice (and it does run properly) the Blu-Ray versions are definitely the most complete.
Blu-Ray has some interactivity capabilities, just like DVD but with shorter response times. So yeah, it can be used for games like this. It should also play great on a PS3 of course...
But to be honest, I'd get it for the special features, not for the game.
I don't have that game, nor have I ever played it. I think I'd best keep it that way lol. If I ever do come across it... it'll be a sure candidate haha. I put it on the list either way, thanks!
Just know I warned you about the 3DO version :P It's impossible I tell you! You need to take every damn option before you can see what you should do lol.
Space Ace was awesome, like all FMV games, exactly 1 time. The SNES version is especially bad. At least they look pretty right?
A great review as always HBG. Keep up the good work. Also, if you're getting into 3DO reviews, I may be able to help you out with some games. Lemme know.
awesome review? a 3DO were did that come from? whats next? dont tell me you a have a Turbo Duo and a NeoGeo CD :-) planning on doing some 3DO reviews in the future?
I've had a 3DO for about a year now, fun system but my library of games is very limited. 3DO stuff isn't to common here. So don't expect to many 3DO reviews any time soon :(
Boy I wish I had a Turbo Duo and a NeoGeo CD haha. I'm not that rich yet though lol.
FMV based games is the only genre where CD-i could technically surpas anything else at the time because of its MPEG playback ability. To bad FMV games in general kinda suck...
Nice review, never played this or dragons lair, but for its day it looks good i suppose, i had a c64 game called space ace, but im not sure if it was a port of this or a different game all together, i cant actually remember playing it.
I'm not really sure if there ever was a c64 conversion, but I wouldn't be surpriced as there was also Dragon's Lair released for it. An impossible version that was!
Oh, awesome! You own a 3DO!
I want one myself (a FZ-1), but damn, is it expensive. :-/

Lol, that is indeed lucky.
I was this Saturday on an event, where I hoped to get one...and indeed there was a 3DO FZ-1...but it was 150€. Way to expensive. =(
Btw., I...nah, I can't write that here. She could read it. :P

My 3DO stash is very small actually. I happened to have this game, but in total I only have 7 or something titles for it :(
Doing more reviews for that system too (it does fit the bill as suposed crap after all) might be fun. Haven't really thought about it to be honest.

Oh, NO!
Sorry. That's just my reaction to reading the words 'Space' and 'Ace' consecutively, in that order.
I blame the SNES version. Yes, it really is that bad.

Hah, yeah. I've never actually played that version myself, but from what I've seen, I'll be happy to skip it!
