I think this is an example of social facilitation whereby we want to appear helpful to other people so they'll like us. Also a little bit of obedience to authority is being played out here. For example, almost immediately he tells the people he's a bounty hunter which suggests authority and demands obedience. Plus BH typically by social standards target persons of antisocial behaviour so conformaty is necessary. He's essentially a cop! :)
