  • I see shays 5 and 6 going to the baldknob.

  • Love the way Shay's sound like their going sixty when their doing about ten or fifteen mph. Three cylinders per engine just sounds great.

  • One of those whistles sounds like the whistle on an N&W J, that's interesting...

  • Very cool. If I am ever down there I want to ride your train!!!

  • I remeber a few years ago as a kid when they let me ride all the way to the first stop (cant remember what its called) in the locomotive. They let me throw the coal in and everything. Got coal dust in my eyes, but it was one pf the most memorable experiences of my life. Cass will always have a special place in my heart. Hopefully we can make another trip this summer!

  • Sounds like Brad and Danny were havin a whistle battle at Gum Field.

  • in the last scene lookin down at bald knob, did u get that shot from the fire tower up at the cabin?

  • looks dangerous pusshing the cars of people ahead of the engines. Suppose there is a car on the track?

  • @TruegrassBoy Cars are pushed for safety with the steep grades and to keep cinders off the passengers. It has been done this was for 47 years and the logging company also pushed its trains. A conductor rides the front of the train and is able to keep an eye on the tracks ahead. Not dangerous at all.

  • @shayfan Cool. That makes sense. Thanks for the explanation.

  • @TruegrassBoy its fine the crossings up the line don't have much traffic

  • @TruegrassBoy You think even if it is pointing the other direction the train is going to be able to stop? Its not like a 3800 pound car, Its a 3800 TON vehicle. They dont stop on a dime

  • @TruegrassBoy Then I guess Amtrak and several other commuter operations are unsafe. They use push/pull trains in the same manner every day. For example, locomotive on one end, cab car on the other and at speeds much higher than Cass is running. If there is a car on the track in the case of Cass, it wouldn't take long to get stopped at the speed they are going.

  • Wow, 2 amazing steam whistle's. The Cass was always a favorite of mine, I only visited once, but it was the best steam ride other than the Durango & Silverton, that I have been on. Also, at 6:10, what were you riding on?

  • My favorite town in my favorite county of West Virginia- Cass and Pocahontas, respectively. Very nice video.

  • Sounded like Shay 5 slip a bit on the Oats run. Thats a steap grade in there. Been there 3 times hope to go again some day,

  • I love the scene at 4:50. It's like WM Shay 6 says let's go and CSR 5 says ok!

  • I have visited Cass WV twice and took advantage of this train ride twice as well. Lots of fun and the store is really nice too. We loved the walkway behind the store under the trees and up high off the ground. A wonderful place. The observatory is close by there too.

  • Walter... you did a phenominal job on this video! More more more!!!

  • implanning on commin the 16th also brad is my oldest brother

  • Does anyone know when they run doubleheaders?

  • to bald knob

  • You can check the schedule online.

  • @camaroracer454 its unpredictable but of there alot of tickets sold they might

  • i gotta good vid of cass on my profil go watch it you wont be disapointed

  • Can anyone tell me how Cass got it's name? My last name is Cass and I didn't know my parents. It's not a common name and was just wondering ?

  • According to Wikipedia, Cass was "named for Joseph Kerr Cass, vice president and cofounder of the West Virginia Pulp and Paper Company. The town was founded in 1901."

  • Thank you.

  • @nerblebun look at the Cass Scenic Railroads website it will tell you

  • awesome video. what trip is better, blad knob or spruce? im not sure if there diff. lines or ones furthor? any help

  • Did they fix the wye up there so Big-6 can

go all of the way up know? I tought that

the wye was to tight for Big-6. It is nice

    if they did.

  • My friend weird al 250 loves shay 6 and I love shay 5! anyway GREAT JOB!!!!

  • You have to be kidding...there's no way this was your first time...! I love this, its probably the best footage I've seen...you shot from very unique angles, which stand out from all of the other Cass videos out there! I can hear you taking pictures in the background! ;{D~

  • Yeah, thats me taking photos in the background, need to learn how to edit that out haha. I am not able to shoot much video as photography takes priority, but I try when I have the chance. I am starting to get used to the camcorder though. I am glad you liked the video, I will try to get some of the July Elkins trip stuff up in a few weeks.

  • Nice stuff Walter! I'm glad I hit the subscribe button.
