As a horse owner myself and lover, I don't like dressage. My arabian horse does some of these moves without me teaching him nor anybody. It's natural for some breeds to do such a "trick" which most people call it..But teaching them to do the Spanish walk and stuff takes a lot of patience but I don't really like it. Anyway, I ride my horse natural, without using whips, spurs, saddles... I ride bareback, I use a bosal and a halter with a rope, my horse enjoys it very much.
@Bigstallion099 I also ride bareback on a plain leather halter and think dressage quite useful. If for nothing else, my stallion gets bored extremely easy if i don't come up with new things to teach him all the time and dressage aids (because he already knows the movements as you say) are as good as any other. Plus, him having become so light and flexible also comes extremely handy in traffic on narrow trails or to avoid accidents in dangerous ones. etc. a super responsive horse is always handy.
What he says about the desire to be one with the horse is true, and he is obviously a skilled trainer, however why is this rider riding dressage only off of the curb rein like a cowboy...................??
Es impresionante como hacen para hacer eso ??? Yo quiero aprender !!!! Espero Dios me de algun dia la opurtunidad de ir a España a aprender !!! Esta hermosa arte ecuestre !!!!!.
If you really want to communicate with your horse as you say, start giving him a normal bite. It´s actually far more difficult for the rider, but such an expert rider like you.. won´t have problems with it... or?
I really like it what Bent Branderup says about the centaur feeling. And if you can feel the horse beeing proud by melting together with you, you know that you are just riding in a beautiful way.
@DayUnfamiliar the four-beat-canter is loss of rhythm, if unintended and apparant in the stiff horse, not working through the body. If the four-beat-canter is the result of high collection, it is natural, because hindquarters that take more weight, obviously spend longer on the ground than the forehand, which gets lighter in collection. A four-beat-canter on the forehand with low shoulders and whithers, in turn, is a mistake and result of incorrect riding.
@theyatemahlaser There were paintings in China and Europe of spotted horses. They don't know if they were the knabstruppers or the appaloosa, Appaloosas did not originate in America because they were brought here from overseas. They are normally associated with the Native Americans because they coveted the loud colors and their intelligence.
This guy is way to handsy, he deoesnt know the first thing about beng connected with true collection. you dont have to see saw to get a horrse to elevate with true collection all you need to contact and connection!
i dont like how the man talks about a living being.i dont like all this dressur stuff:thats not natural.no horse would do this on its own.it is like some human would do flick flack on the street or sth. in my opinion animals are not objects of amusement..i dont like people who think a great deal of themselfs and thats exactly what that man does...well, thats why i hate this guy... kind of mental illness or sth..he could jump on his own WITHOUT the horse if he is dying to do unnormal things!
@bomberdils Well they do really, piaffe and passage is what a stallion does when he see's a mare and says "hey, look at me, im big, strong and good to have babies with". i used to keep 2 stallions together and they would do many of these movements as part of play. of course airs comes from war but again we see horses play like this too.
@80RDC hey, maybe they do piaffe if they want to, but this actually is the point: they do it for their own.and not for anybody else who wants them to do it.. i think about why that man trys to teach that horse.. and thats for his own pleasure or amusement, on my view thats not okay.he wants tp present that horse like presenting a beautiful schoe or sth. i love horses and i think they are very beautiful.but their beauty is on the other side their curse. its the same thing whith dolphins
@bomberdils i see your point but if we take that view literally then there should be no breeding programmes, no pets, and as there will be no one to look after the animals we will need to either cull them or allow them to have a massive impact on biodiversity by sertting them all free.
@80RDC we also need to consider that these animals are bred for the job. this means that they inherit certain attributes that will not allow them to live as a whild animal. the thing is humans have began to demesticate animals for so long that its just too established. i do believe that owning any animal should require a license.
@80RDC not really, we haven't bred wilderness out of the horses, it's our lack of understanding for their needs that makes them weak and appear as though they would not survive in the wild. However, there IS NO wild anymore. every land is owned and horses left to breed unchecked then have to be gathered and often put down wich is horrid. it'd be much wiser to simply change the way we keep them to mimic their needs more closely. (track system paddocks, etc.)
@DJBelbe ..Hello... So dogs were wild too, should they go back to the pack of wolves, coyotes, hyenas, etc and becoming a feral wild animal?? People always just talk about ONLY horses, why don't they ever talk about dogs going back to the "wild" and let them have their own pack, without collars, leashes nor humans -_- I am just sick of some people only talk about negative things about equines.
@Bigstallion099 I am not saying anything negative about equines. all i am saying is that we have bred weaknesses but they are not as domesticated as dogs. dogs have evolved to be with humans. dogs often do well in the wild but cannot always communicate with animals such as wolves as they are not wolves. horses and donkies have different behaviour too, same family but different genus.
@80RDC all i am saying is these horses were bred for a job, that these horses are being trained doing something that comes naturally to them by professionals. Classical dressage is about communication is built on subtle ques and harmony.i suggest you read adios podolski training the horse and rider. it may give you a better understanding of the sport.ppl R quick to judge in this industry.there are so many benefits to dressage for the horse's well-being if done correctly, same as free-schooling!
@bomberdils Then don't keep any animal and don't train him anything. What else is any style of riding or training dogs today but a source of leisure and amusement? A horse's back wasn't designed for people to sit on it, otherwise we would not be in need for developing ways to strengthen the horse's muscles of the hindquarters and topline. There are people outthere committing unbelievable crimes - and you condemn a guy who devoted all his life to the wellbeing of horses? Seriously...
@Steedrider hey, i can understand your view, but only because there people who do unbelievable crimes, this does not mean, that this is okay... of course these people are doing wrong.. i just share my opnion. i know that there are people who treat theire horses very bad and this is unhuman. i just dont like, that animals are treated like objects.. like " look how beautiful my horse is .." you could say it in this way too " look how beautiful my dress is" do u understand what i mean?
@Steedrider when i was younger i did,but now i am not shure if its okay.because they cant choose being a "ridehorse".maybe (but im not shure) riding is okay if you treat your horse right and the horse has a lot of space, maybe in a way riding is different than making shows with horses(and i think this guy prepares his horse for a show)but this does not change the fact that the horse cant change his life.we dont know what they´re thinking.i would prefer a life in freedom than beeing a "ridehorse"
I get where you're coming from but Branderup is the wrong address for your arguments. He does outspokenly NOT show his horses on shows and competitions because he considers this industry corrupt and horse-unfriendly. His system is based on logical steps that the horse can understand and a lot of praise. When I was a kid, I didn't wanna go to school but some teachers made learning a nice thing. The same way, it depends on the person whether the horse enjoys being ridden or not.
@Steedrider i understand your point.. but there is a difference between children which has to go to school because of law and horses -> they normaly dont have to got to any school or to be ridden..normaly they are like birds->free... but they are owned by mankind.. like they were theire property.. like ive told you before.. they just cant choose theire "lifestyle" if you were a horse and you could choose between freedom and beeing a "ridehorse" what would U choose?... honestly?
@bomberdils Sorry to intervene in your discussion, but I'd like to make a quick point regarding your comment on how they don't want to be a "ridehorse": I used to ride a very sweet and talented horse who had to be retired young due to an old injury flaring up. When he was in full work, he was fit, shining, healthy, and very happy. Since he's been retired to a life in an enormous green pasture, he has become dull, thin, and depressed :'( . Most horses really do enjoy working with their humans. :)
I'm sorry but horses can't really be free anymore even if we wanted them to. Mankind has taken land there is not enough space for horses to be left to their own devices and constantly breed. You don't really see behind the scenes how much the horses are pampered and made a fuss of and they love it! Horses have been ridden since the beggining of time, it was a mode of transport. now it is a passion/hobby for people like me.
@Steedrider ah and by the way, i like this kind of diskussion because its very peacefull no aggression or sth. it is interesting what others think about these kind of themes. and im thankful that those who has another opinion than me, are writing in a peaceful way, so i can understand what you mean.. it is important that erveryone understands the other opinopn, because only in this way we can talk about these kind of themes
@bomberdils It seems a little pragmatic but if it wasn't for riding, the horse would have been extinct long time ago because it simply isn't necessary any longer. For me, riding is a matter of responsibility and obviously, none of use are unfailable. I just wonder why you rule out the point of connection and friendship between horse and man. Obviously, many riders seem to rule it out, too but that is rather a matter of attitude than the practice of riding itself.
Horses naturally seek guiding in order to be safe from preditors. If you give him this guidance and treat him in a way that he can understand and is willing to follow, I don't see an ultimate con against the practice of riding as such. Plus, if you are capable through reading, investigation and experience to shape him through your riding in a way that enables him to carry you without either mental or physical damage, it is enjoyable for the horse, too.
They seek safety, companionship and praise. And the horses we have today have been bred for centuries to work hard and regularly in their respective disciplines. This is not to say that every horse out of a dressage line likes dressage. But if you take a confident horse out of work, you'll notice that they get bored. So I'm pretty sure that there are a couple of people out there who do it a good job. Only because it's not necessary doesn't automatically make it wrong.

whats the difference between these and appaloosas?
ktyfiend 2 months ago
@ktyfiend
Danish Knabstrups: 15.2-16 hands (there can be ponies-sized ones)
Appaloosas: 13-15 hands
Appaloosas come from America and Danish Knabstrups from Denmark.
Appaloosa bloodlines can be found sometimes, because a bit back 3 Appaloosa Stallions were brought to Denmark and bred with a lot of Knabstrup mares.
