  • Love it.

  • I much prefer the warmth and humanity Richard Harris brought to Arthur to Burton's, well, Burtonness, but I must agree with what others have said. This is an excellent video; I wasn't aware any of the old Ed Sullivan shows had been released on DVD.

  • A great actor, but to bad the drink got him in the end. in one of his last roles (The wild geese) he had a line " I have it in my will that my liver is to buried seperately" when asked about his drinking... Good in this role, goulet better and should have been the lead in the movie. oh well

  • The talentless overacting loser Burton was lucky not to die of lung cancer.

  • Richard Burton was my first love at 14 I would stand by the stage door when is was doing Hamlet just to get a glimpse of him.

  • @VALZONE03 wow! that must have been thrilling :p

you're so lucky you were able to meet him

  • this sucks..He's shouting at us, instead of singing to her, but he's got to remember he's still has to be cool about singing to his a stranger.. Harris does it Better!

  • Thank you so much for this. I've always loved Richard Burton. I saw him in the original Camelot, and years later when he was a lot older. Here he is in his prime. He was a serious actor, not a singer, but he showed that he could sing and act in musical comedy. Just a consummate and endearing performer. Love him, and so did Liz. Unfortunately he was a man of excesses and it killed him too young.

  • He couldn't act or sing for shit.

  • I love this clip...I've never seen it. I've only seen the movie.

  • Burton was a talentless piece of shit who only copied Olivier. I'm glad he died at only 58.

  • @FrankClanton A little harsh don't you think?????

  • Burton never could act at all, he just recited the lines in that stupid fake voice of his. He was very lucky not to die of lung cancer.

  • @FrankClanton Burton was wonderful.... saw him perform in Toronto in the 70's.. fantastic... FrankClanton, you may be the "talentless piece of shit" If you don't like a video... don't watch it.

  • He didn't perform in Toronto at all in the 1970s. He was offered the chance to play King Lear on stage in Canada in 1978, but chose to make an awful film called Absolution instead.

  • burton was great

  • frank clanton, what do you wish he died from in cap locks? why would you wish anyones death, as if you know what it's like to be something beyond you. LUNG CANCER!

are you insane? if some poor human (i.e. you parents) die, how will you have a guarenteed love? i would laugh my ass off at your choking self if you suddenly got winded. at least one human in this world who would relish watching you smother. i would be over the moon.

  • I read in Alan J Lerner's autobiography that this appearance on Sullivan is what put Camelot over the top. It was running on Broadway, and doing OK, not as well as My Fair Lady... Sullivan asked them to appear on his show, and they put together Camelot, Simple Folk and If Ever I Would Leave You, the TV show ran, and the next day there were lines around the block at the box office.

The show became a legend when Jackie Kennedy quoted JFK quoting Camelot: after her husband was killed.

  • tell us how you really feel...

  • Must I repeat Myself?

  • What a wonderful video.

And Burton could mop the floor with Olivier on Burton's worst day.

  • Never was a more talented threesome put together then Richard Burton, Julie Andrews and Robert Goulet! What I would not have given to see this musical! All three are very talented! I hope someday this original Camelot will be brought to DVD to share it with the world!

  • Was it ever filmed in its entirety?!

  • Happy 50th Anniversary to Camelot.

With a memorable score by that 'other' ampersand--Lerner and Loewe.

  • i met this douchebag named jude law..they tell me he's brilliant, a great talent and the sexiest man in thw world..well when i worked with this guy he looked like a fucking extra...zero personality...and he was bored and let everyone know it...

he couldnt hold richard burtons jockstrap...

guys like burton were brilliant..todays talent would not rise abve the level of mediocrity back in burtons prime...

    this is a great clip..thanks

  • I second that.

I did not particularly care for the movie version.

  • you are such an evil person FrankClanton... you may want to invest in some counseling... because you need it.

  • This is great. Love it.

  • Richard Burton was a good actor

  • I love when Richard Burton smiles at 1:25 - so adorable. God, I loved him.

  • The talentless wooden actor Burton couldn't sing for shit.

  • frankclanton: stop talking about yourself.

  • FrankClanton: why worry about a dead man? worry about yourself instead. you have a lot of malignancy already.

  • Burton sang the complete version of "Camelot" on the MDA telethon a long time ago. Jerry used to show the clip.

  • This guy is a stiff.

  • This is historic!

  • It's like the same kind of singing/speaking done by Rex Harrison in My Fair Lady and Robert Preston in The Music Man. It seems that was popular for muicals in the early 60s.

  • I wish the whole performance was on youtube :(

  • Unfortunately Camelot was never recorded in its entirety to the best of my knowledge. But I would love to be proven wrong. :) It would be AMAZINGLY good news if there was a full recording of it somewhere!!

  • You can get the cd of the Broadway cast. I saw it in New York and there is a recording with original cast.

  • you can buy it on amazon. i just got mine.

  • Well, I've read Andrews' memoire and she claims the only footages are those at ed sullivan show... and that's really bad.. I would love to see the entire performance...

  • Yes the original cast recording (audio) w. Andrews, Burton & Goulet is lovely and well worth buying.

But as wakeup90 said no real video recordings exists - except for a few snippets I believe. And it is a real shame!!

  • I had forgotten that Burton actually sang on stage and was surprised that he sang so well,
