I used to listen to my oldest brother's 8-track tape of early '70s country/western songs and this was one of the songs. I've always liked this version, esp. the steel guitar. Have tried to find it for mp3 but had no luck. Didn't think I'd ever hear it again. Thanks for posting it!! This REALLY brings back some great memories!
@physicalgraffiti714 Actually the original version of this song by The Chiffons was recorded before 'My Sweet Lord' and it led to George Harrison being involved in a copyright infringement suit which he lost. It's on Wikipedia.
I've been lokking for this version of this song forever!!! So many people have done it and i couldn't remember the one i used to hear as a child. This is it!!!!!
Jody used to record some strange stuff...I wonder about the quality of her management back then because there was nothing shabby about the quality of her vocals... fantastic voice, wonderful range. Sad really when you see some of the shit coming out of the US today. This lady (along with Judith Durham) among the most underated singers of my generation ( I think.)
@forsburgers Well you are right about her singing ablities, and I think all in all she had and excellent career. And yes management and promotion make all the difference for many singers and there recordings.Thank you.

listening to this version of he's so fine i can totally see the similarity to my sweet lord..........regardless, i like jody millers vocal a great deal. don't know why she wasn't bigger than she was...........awesome voice quality........
Did they really have to throw in the obvious Harrison lick? That to me was sort of a sly dig that George could have done nicely without. It's a good song otherwise.
actually, Harrison stole the lick from the original recording of this song by the Chiffons (recorded in the 60s) for his "My Sweet Lord" (recorded in the 70s). There was a lawsuit, etc. that ensued because of it.
Oh yeah, I know about the lawsuit. I meant that the melody for MSL came straight from the original HSF by the Chiffons. But nowhere in that version is the guitar hook that George used for MSL.
I know you may find it hard to believe but this is the flippin' truth! I heard this song a long time before I heard the original version of 'He's So Fine' and I heard George Harrison's recording of 'My Sweet Lord' before I heard this and I thought 'My Sweet Lord' inspired this song! I was a junior-high student back in 1971, when I first heard this recording. Hey, man! what does a teen-ager know? Nothing! Everyone knows teen-agers don't live in the real world! This was 1971 for cryin' out loud!
No I do not find it hard to believe.I heard the song "My Sweet Lord", and never associated it with the one by the Chiffons (He's So Fine) untill I read about it in the paper. Thanks for stopping by.
You're absolutely right. 'My Sweet Lord' resulted in a lawsuit against George Harrison brought on by the publishers of 'He's So Fine'.
A complaint was filed in 1972. After many attempts to settle out of court, the case went to trial in 1978 and was in court for 15 years, resulting in a $2 million judgment against Harrison, and God knows how many millions in legal costs.
I hadn't played this for a long time, and I forgot how good it was.Every so often I'll pick a letter and just play them till I finish or move on to something else.Thank you for your comment.
If I get 200 likes before the Valentine's Day I'll dedicate this to my secret crush........

Where's the background on this one?... That's the best part "Doo-da-lang Doo-da-lang Doo-Lang". Without the background it's just not the same song.
ScienceProjek 2 years ago
@ScienceProjek It is not ment to be the same,as this is the country version.

In this version the guitarist makes up for the backing vocals. It has an amazing riff.

Can you imagine that Shakira today is a super-star, and the real, true singer, Jody Miller didn't make it big?

I'm not sure what a Harrison lick is,but I am glad you like the song.

I meant the guitar bit in between the lines "but then he can't shy..." and "he can't shy away forever..."which George played in My Sweet Lord.

Jody should have recorded "My Sweet Lord" as the flipside of this song. She'd have had a double-sided hit.

This is from 1971? I guess somebody thought she might catch a little of My Sweet Lord's tailwind by releasing a remake of this.
IDLERACER 3 years ago 5
Yes it was recorded in 1971.I'm not sure the reason for the recording, but anything is possible.Hope you enjoyed it.
mezskr4 3 years ago
You are probably right considering there are slide guitar licks in this that come directly from "My Sweet Lord" (listen around :50 and after)
