@juliansa74, well he is without a doubt in the top 15 best players of all time, i mean to not play pro tennis for 10 yrs, and than come back in ur early 40's, and beat all these younger fitter players, it takes some1 very special to do that.
wait a minute, where did Borg get his break in the fifth? There it was even, then Borg fights off a Connors break, and suddenly he's up 5-3... something's missing from this video.
@SiaWinsi Don't worry, I won't forget that, to me Borg will always be the King! It's just that at the time I soooo much wanted him to had won Wimbledon 6 times in a row, and that didn't happen. Later I grew to appreciate McEnroe as well.
They didn't call Borg the "Angelic Assassin" for nothing. He was unflappable, whether ahead or behind. And oh, man, the footwork...like a Fila clad ballerina...
In this match, Björn Borg demonstrates the most important athletic ability which makes a difference between a superstar and the others. It is the mental toughness with which to come back from behind… the ability not to blow up when he was losing 0 - 6 and 4 - 6 in the first 2 sets... when things look pretty bleak. He didn’t give up, didn’t fold, or didn’t get frustrated. He focused on the game. And win it he did! Son of a gun! #LOL
@awesomesauce808 I know!!! I was thinking the same thing. It was slow back then because of the wooden rackets, you could only hit it so hard without breaking.
Thanks for uploading. Would you happen to have the 1978 final ?. I have uploaded the last two games last night but unfortunately the quality is not as good. Certainly not as good as your upload of the 1981 semifinal. Well done...
@sharpasaneraser. He did have a consistent forehand when the ball was hit hard but when it was looped or slow in tough spots, he tended to make errors in crucial situations. But only Borg had the discipline to do that in tight situations on grass and clay courts. Lendl, McEnroe, Rosewall, and others that he beat always tried to blow it buy him and he made you pay. On indoor surfaces, he could force a fast tempo and lot of his opponents couldn't with the exception of Borg.
Great classic match! First time Borg hit underspin backhands repeatedly from the baseline in a rallies against Connors (1st set), although he hit underspin backhand approach shots in their 1978 match at Wimbledon.
GREAT VIDEO, WIMBLEDON 82 WOULD OF BEEN REALLY INTRESTING IF BORG HAD,NT RETIRED, CONNORS HAD IMPROVED FROM 81 , SADLY WE WILL NEVER KNOW. CONNORS DID BEAT BORG IN 82 AT THE MICHALOB OPEN, FOR A SOMEWHAT MORAL VICTORY, AFTER BEATING MCENROE IN THE WIMBLEDON FINAL THAT YEAR. GREAT MEMORIES THANKS
Connors: most overrated (and clownish) player ever
