  • this is so helpful!! thankyou so much! :)

  • Great documentary. I am actually doing a National History Day Project this year (Theme is "Debate and Diplomacy: Successes, Failures, Consequences") with similar theme to your project. It mostly focuses on the Eisenhower Administration's work during the Space Race.

Good job at giving information. I am surprised you did not move on given your documentary (maybe works cited page or process paper?). If you were in Nebraska, you would have definitely moved on. I have even qualified for Nationals.

  • The Soviet Union collapsed because Gorbachev banned vodka.

  • If you ask somebody from the USA, then they'll answer that the USA did. Ask a Russian, and of course they'll say that Russia/the USSR did. Ask anyone else, and they'll probably not care.

  • Excellent video.

  • Great video thanks for uploading :)

  • The concluding statement here bears scrutiny. I believe the USSR would have accomplished their own lunar landing had the US not done it first.

  • Excellent doc. But i disagree on the voice. He's not up to the task. Too wordy, too fast, not enough enunciation or variety in enunciation. Clearly he's reading. Narrators must never seem as if they are reading (even though they are). It sounds very amateur, like high school project with that narrator. Sorry, but that's my opinion.

  • @theschizoidman ...That is because it is a high school project (or middle school. Given his voice I would say high school). As he said in the video, this was for the National History Day competition. I understand your opinion, but keep in mind that they ARE high/middle schoolers so it is normal for them to sound like this (I actually sometimes speak the same type of way for my documentaries in the competition, but not so fast :) ).

  • Hundreds of launches were made in recent years of satellites and rocket payloads. Many foreigners were taken to space from Russian territory. Russia today does not look to the Moon but to Mars. In Moscow a simulator is to prepare cosmonauts for the trip.

  • Or the first station in space (Salyut 1, 1971). Or the records constantly set by the Mir space station. 1971, the first probe to reach the surface of Mars (Mars 2). 1975, first pictures of the surface of Venus. 1984, first woman to walk in space, Sveltana Savitskaya.

1986, first crew to visit two (Russian) space stations, Salyut and Mir.

  • First docking in space, unmanned (Cosmos 186/188) in 1967. The U.S. only managed to imitate this achievement in 2006. 1969, the first manned docking and exchange of crews. First samples of the Moon sent by Luna 16 in 1970. First robot on the moon in 1970 (Lunokhod 1). The following year, first data received from the surface of another planet, Venus.

  • Or the first man, Yuri Gagarin (Vostok 1, 1961). Gherman Titov in the same year was the first man to spend a day in space and sleep in space. Or the first woman, Valentina Tereshkova (1963). Or the first walk in space (Aleksei Leonov, 1965). Or the first arrival to the moon in 1959 (Luna 2). First object on the surface of Venus, 1965 (Venera 3). 1966, Luna 9 was the first object to make contact with the moon and make a transfer. First lunar orbit, 1966.

  • 1960, two dogs, Belka and Strelka, returning to Earth after being in orbit (Sputnik 5). The first probe to Mars (1960, Marsnik 1). The following year, the first probe to reach Venus (Venera 1)

  • If there was a race to space, it was won by the Soviet Union with the first satellite (Sputnik, 1957) or the first launch of an ICBM (R7 Semyorka, 1957). Or the first animal in space, Laika (1957). Or the first rocket into orbit, Luna 1 in 1959. The first transmission of telemetry from space in 1959. In the same year, the first rocket to pass the moon and the first object to enter into solar orbit (Luna 1). In the same year, the first photos of the dark side of the Moon (Luna 3).

  • great information. you have an excellent speaking voice. it was a very informative and helpful video. thank you so much, this has helped me a lot.

  • Is this video citable and accurate??

  • Did the russians lie about sending the first man and women into space?

  • no..first was in 1961..it was first earth satelite..after then we send two dogs Belka and Strelka..then we send rthere gagarin..after then we have first man in open space..Leonov was his name if my memory dont lie me..after we send first woman..her name was Natalia Tereshkova

  • by the way first on the moon was ussr..ussr send there i dont know robot or machine..i see it but i still cant say what was it exectly...usa send first man on the moon..you know if ended all space race-ussr win space race..all this i can end first robot on the mars space station "world"..

  • @TheColdWar1945 No... but it is more likely that the US faked landing on the moon.. than that...

  • Right On the money Video!

  • What brilliance!

  • the americans wernt told about him been a nazi allthough all the government officals allowd him to live just to help the U.S its disgracfull

  • Neither USSR nor USA were powers before WW2!If not the win over WW2 humanity would still wait for sputnik and laika and Gagarin and Nasa and space shuttles etc...If not the V2 rocket of nazi it would posible that only today in the 21th century mankind would see what does space mean and learn about galaxies universe our solar system...Half of the nazi scientists went to USA and the other half to USSR!We must admit that neither USA nor USSR were so clever as Germans to design missiles and rockets!

  • true

  • I LOVE YOUR CREDITS!

we basically are going to have to do the same thing...

  • Look up delta moon base on U tube

  • great video.

  • I really love your Documentary

i'm entering the National history day thing this year and i thought that i would look through a few examples and i really liked yours

i was hoping i could get a few tips on narrating?

i'm having soem trouble with it

and how did you find such great footage?

  • I was gonna do a Documentary for my project too, and I was using Windows Movie Maker for my project. Unless ur not gonna use Windows Movie Maker, I can tell u how to do it. What I did was I wrote a script of information first, then I did my narration. Send me an E-mail if ur using Windows Movie Maker and I'll tell u how.

  • i got no choice to do it

  • u really think the U.S set foot on the moon.. i doubt it look at all the failure before hand just trying to get man into space, nevermind to the moon in such short time... if man has been to the moon why hasn't he been back with the new technology?..

  • dude, where did you get all these video clips?

  • Its sad that it takes a "war" just to push a lot of budget into technology and space travel. Humans aren't going to get anywhere thriving off greed and competition.

  • I've gotta do an powerpoint presentation on this subject - I was wondering where you got all this footage from?

    Thanks

  • Sorry but i hate this video, because it is Anti-soviet. Guys don't believe to anothibg what you soo. Best wishes - the man from UK

  • Well the funny part for me is that you are all in High School... I am a PhD student and believe me... you don't get close... none of you... not even the criticism gets close... you need more training young jedi... but do not give up. just keep trying. peace.

  • That's right, although what strikes me as trully interesting is how can a person of your appearent "height" would get cut up in the vast inquiry of someone like a high school student and make use of the well adquired merit of your rank to diminish the efforts of those who begin to strive against the impossible, instead of using the power of that wisdom to advice and support others.

    p.s

    Undergrad student

  • oh, the memories.

History Fair ruined my life, but I miss it for some reason. The video actually seems a lot better now that I'm watching it after like 6 months.

  • dutch-democratic-republic dot com

  • Deer god, you can tell this video was made by an American, i would LOVE to see a Russian equivilent might shed light to see both sides. I know you clearly tried to remain unbiased but oh deer god did you fail, still, i take my hat off to you for trying, it was a good video, most americans would have just said "We won, commies suck...er.....whats a Russia?"

  • So true. Very pour naration!

  • The thing I hate most I hate most about NHD documentaries is WHEN PEOPLE WATCH DOCUMENTARIES ON THEIR TOPIC AND THEN SPLICE THEM ALL TOGETHER!!!! THAT TAKES NO ORIGINALITY. iT'S GAY. MY WHOLE THING IS ORIGINAL. IF YOU DO USE FOOTAGE GET CONSENT FROM THE COPYRIGHT OWNER. THOUGH THAT IS REALLY HATE TO DO, SO JUST DON'T DO IT. GET YOUR OWN FOOTAGE. (in all fairness this video is that bad when it comes to that, my statement was just a generalization)

btw I'm going to states tomorrow (PA)

  • the proper enunciation of "Wernher von Braun" is "Verner von Brown"

  • Yay, it's finally over!
