Luckily for me, my brother is autistic and hates to go anywhere spontaneously, so most of the time I know beforehand which restaurant we're going to, and then I Google the nutritional information... obsessively...
@thisgrey I think it could be because in developing worlds being thin is not seen as a good thing and so people do not strive to be thin. In the first world being thin is seen as a sign of being in control, having your life in order, being attractive etc. and so people who are unhappy with themselves try to be thin to improve their lives. With anorexia or bullimia this gets out of control because of deeper issues within the person and not because they are vain or stupid or selfish.
@ersellwaite It's a way of rejecting the excesses of western life, parents, husbands etc These people always want their partners and children to have more, more, more - The anorexic will see this as superficial as her feelings run so deep.Anorexia is a very, very deep anger - that's why it goes so far beyond what is loved and accepted..although the anorexic is always aware that, in part, people are in awe and amazed by her..
I am a recovered anorexic but its true that I am still very strict about the routine of meals - it always has to be the same way each day otherwise I get nervous and panic. :/ but at least im eating enough - 3 meals a day. Im supposed to have 2 snacks a day but snacks are still scary so I usually don't have them.
@thisisgrey You moron. How dare you judge those when you have NO idea what these people are going through.
Have a look at part 2; the poor woman was abused as a child, her parents were divorced (a bit taboo at the time) she had 2 miscarriages and her mother died.
Try having all that, repressing it, and then see how it eventually displays itself, hmm? Because it will. It most definitely will, eventually.
@kaykid2 maybe I am, but bear with me for a second, try to find an anorexic in the developing world or working in a sweat shop. I'm just saying that this seems to be mostly a disease of the first world, why?
@blackbarch its easy to look and seem happy when youre whole life is basically like performing for an audience, its actually, quite disturbingly easy...
There's 3 categories of women who suffer from eating disorders. Some are struggling for the first time, some struggled in they're teen years and are relapsing and some have struggled since they're teen years and never got help.
I totally understand how these women feel, I been dealing with bulimia for over 15 years and it is very hard to stop. I have put on weight because of taking some pills for another problem and I have gained 20 pounds and I feel extremely fat, I dont know what to do......
my dad suffers from manorexia and he rubbed off on my brother and i. its irresponsible of these ppl who have extreme problems and pressure their kids into their disorder also. I totally understand what she means "fullness means your fat" i was8 weeks pregnant and my father told me that i was fat when he went to touch my belly.....i really hate that man.
she became anorexic when she was already pregnant - i guess some people would choose to abort in that situation but she probably thought she had more control over the situation than she actually did ... its awful to think of - so glad the baby was ok !
@crackwhip for some reason I think that if her child was born deformed or dead, she would STOP starving and her eating disorder would be cured. But since the baby is ok, she thinks it's ok to continue the way she did.
No. Very differently, alcohol is a chemical, being drunk is very different behaviour to being in starvation. My mum starved me in the womb and I was just born small. It can affect development of the baby, sometimes the same areas of development as FAS/E babies but different outcomes. Often they simply feed off the little you eat and your body fat/muscle and you are left with even less for you. Can explain more if you like.
" A healthy BMI is anywhere between 20-25." Not true actually. It's 18.5-24.5. Maybe the BMI is different in the UK? I just put down what I know it is here in America.
Not sure exactly; it seems to be a stroke of coincidence. My middle school teacher had anorexia while pregnant with her children... Some girls with "anorexia" are still able to sustain a period even though they are underweight.
It's true. I had an anorexic client who hadn't had her ED for 6 years and hadn't had a regular period in 4 years, but she still got pregnant and had a perfectly healthy baby. She only gained about 12-15lbs during her pregnancy & a year later she still has no period.
&, (though I'm bulimic not anorexic) at a BMI of less than 16 (& hell, even when I was at a BMI below 15) still get a completely regular period.
@FetaSake - Not all Anorexics lose their period, or their ability to ovulate. I never have, and I've struggled with Anorexia for almost 30 years (in recovery for the past 5). My lowest BMI was 12.9, and I was still menstruating at that point. I had hormone tests run when I was hovering around a BMI of 14.5, and I was still ovulating normally. Theoretically I could have fallen pregnant, even though I was technically emaciated.
Read Explaining colours to a blind man. Not only will it enlighten many as to what living with a mental illness and an eating disorder is like, it also gives comfort to those sufferers who think there is no hope and that they are alone. It is very informative, sometimes shocking but also very funny in parts. All in all, a good read and highly recommended.

wouldnt anorexia affect the baby the same as alcohol would..well I mean would it affect them in similar ways?
crazymanthomas1654 2 years ago
there's a risk of the baby being born underweight and undernourished.
Innergoth333 2 years ago 2
probably did her worse than the baby as the baby would be stripping her of what very little nutrients shes taking in
