I don't think there are more concussions now, just less "upper body injuries." People saw how poorly the penguins trainers handled the crosby injury so now instead of sitting out a week or two with an undisclosed upper body injury they are out indefinitely with a concussion.

Anyone people who say that the #1 story was concussions in general rather than Crosby are kidding themselves. If Crosby hadn't been concussed in 2011, this wouldn't have been a story at all. Concussions could be easily solved:

- Get rid of the instigator rule and bring back the role of the enforcer

- Smaller shoulder pads + stronger helmets to better protect players

- Increased discipline on headchecks (I would have a system where the first illegal headcheck is a minor suspension like 5 games or so, the 2nd illegal check is a stroner punishment like 10-15 games, and if a player commits a 3rd illegal headcheck then he is suspended at least as long as the player he injured is out)

- Make should pads "smaller" and officially not change anything and make helmets stronger because nobody thought of making "strong" helmets

- The current helmets are pathetic and get knocked off frequently when there's a significant hit. They need to be made stronger and stay on better.

- Yeah they are getting somewhat tougher on people, but not to the degree I'd like to see. If a player is headchecked and has to miss an entire season with a concussion then I would love to see the guy who did the hit sit the entire season as well without pay.

Crosby coming back and concussions are number one? Concussions have been a huge thing in hockey for years, the other stories were ten times bigger. And can the nhl market someone else besides Crosby and terrible ass ovechkin? he's the only reason why its so big of a story. The only hockey you see on sports center is about crybaby's injury. The best player in the nhl RIGHT NOW Claude Giroux gets a concussion and its barely news (i know he wasn't out long term but still).

But of the people that died 5 of them were canadien but SportsCenter decided they would rather crosby "return" than the coverage of deaths of 47 people. Because it's gonna affect hockey players that are still playing, and are alive and well. It could potentially mean more deaths. Trust me, these stories should NOT be ranked in any order. All three are equally important, maybe not the Jets as much as the other two. But concussions are something that could lead to more deaths and wrecked lives.
