I have a problem. When the adders aren't connected they work just fine, and give the correct outputs. And when my decoder isn't hooked up it works just fine, and gives the proper outputs as well...However when I tried to hook them up, it wouldn't give me the correct answer...I don't think I hooked up the adders and decoder incorrectly. idunno, maybe I'm just not inputing the binary correctly :/
i'm making a "2 (decimal) figure display" (up to 15) so i dont want it to use letters. is this design useless for me? or can you make it not display letters?
ok, well im starting all over on this massive project and havent thought about redstone in a long time. so if i have a binary to decimal decoder, do i still need the decoders u made in the display tutorial episode 2 to get it to 7 segment??
@10BITable not only would u have to hook up all the levers to and gates, but the torches not added together would have to connect to a nand gate. These outputs would then be put into an and gate. This would take lots of room, and forever to build!
@10BITable You make ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE. What do you mean "with an AND gate"? How can you reduce tons of computational logic to one single gate? The answer is, "you can't!". You are oversimplifying things and completely ignoring common practice. Why use hexadecimal? Because ALL computers use it, therefore mine should as well. If you are too lazy or stupid to read hex, then you can build a decoder to translate it for you, but I am neither.
@10BITable okay why don't YOU make a video of making a minecraft calculator using nothing but AND gates! ok deal!? since you know EVERYTHING about it! I'd like to see one of those.
@10BITable Well making this is the first step of making a computer :) I have programmed in my computer 16 - bit RAM, CPU, Programmeble ticker display and this :D it kinda nice when u r done and yeah, kinda useless :P
Hi stephen plz can u do either a tutorial for a flashing redstone light real quick in your next episode. Whenever i try to make one the light shorts out. I kinda need it for the counter system with boats
@DanHDMusic Is this what you need? Because your description was a bit vague. /watch?v=0VBonjTrzS0 NOTE: the that this video covers RS NOR latches first.
@xzor899 You would just need to make more display cells. Right now, he has it set up to display 16 different characters for a single cell. You would just need to make it so that there are less characters defined, however you would need a lot more display cells to accommodate the increased length of the numbers. Hexadecimal isn't too bad though, just a couple letters thrown in.
@adognamedsally ummm, that still makes no sense. walk me through it slowly... wat r the display cells? how would i do wat i want. Really my overall question is how do i make a calculator that adds stuff, and displays the answer on two seven segment displays
@xzor899 just add a new 7 segment display (you only need the 1 part) and just instead of doing A etc. you link it up to the second display and the 0 for 10
I hope that made sense although I don't think it does
@DomTCTech nope it doesnt, not cuz all of u awesome people trying to help me r not good at helping, just because i haveent done really anything with 7 segment displays b4.
@scjoiner ok, I think i could get it to work, if u explained to me how/why urs displays in hexa, is it just the design for the binary-7segment decoder??
@scjoiner Except it's not like decimal at all because it has a radix of 16 as opposed to decimal's 10 which makes calculations and representations of values completely different...
@scjoiner I'll bake redstone into a cookie for you. Also, I'll do my best to win future contests so that I can get on the server and hug you in person :P

btw, you did spell his name right.
but not design (disine)

just checking, if i make 4 calculators, it is 5bits, because of the carry out, is this right?
xzor899 9 months ago
@xzor899 Yep, that's what I would call it. Realistically, some might call that 4bit with carry-out indication.
scjoiner 9 months ago
@scjoiner ok just checking to make sure that it would still give me the adding potential of 5 bits.

Ok to be honest I don't even know how to make a redstone torch turn on and off... so...
Yeah... o_o

yes but i dont get why to do this and how u use it wnd for what...
its senseless in my opinion >.<

@10BITable It's not senseless just because you don't get it... this is how things are done in the real world and it translates pretty well to MC.
scjoiner 9 months ago
@scjoiner
yes but what is it for with this cairry in and out and why dont you just do it with an and gate?
wouldnt it be much easier?
the carry in and out is what i dont get and why you dont yust do 2 display instead of some letters...

My decoder does. You can design one to output anything but hex is easiest.
