  • How the fuck did i get here?

  • come to think of it, masks in general are pretty freaky

  • U.S. = another random british colony with overpower weapons without self culture.

    GOD BLESS THE QUEEN.

  • Wow, those are beautiful. I would love to have one of his oni masks.

  • simply amazing i hope my carvings come out awesome like this someday

  • Noh has a history of hundres of years and has been handed down through the centuries. Not many people, even Japanese can not understand the world of Noh, but who can blaspheme it and its masks?

Noh is a great art; expression of masks, movesets, stories, everything is perfectly sophisticated. I was stunned as the main actor appeared on a stage with a mask when I first watched Noh performance. Kyogen made me lough a lot in the middle of the programmes. This is what Japanese should be proud of.

  • his face kind of looks like his masks wooden and shiny.

  • Niceeeee

  • Excelente video,muy buen artista...!!!Thanks for post.

  • Maybe America doesn't understand your definition of mask art, but it's foolish and selfish to say that it does not exist in the US. Art is for everyone. It's not for one culture or all but one culture.

  • He should make the mask from Jojo´s bizarre adventure.... Will be coolest!

  • Interesting video. Luckily, I know some japanese, and I don't need subtitles.

I have difficulty to understand some terms, because the speech is a little fast (fast for me eh eh).

(Art exists in the USA, but different form your beautiful traditional art like this.Just different.)

  • does the art exist in the u.s?

it is a foolish silly question

the art doesn't exist in the u.s

the american doesn't understand the depth of the art

an american culture is very immature

the American can criticize the art of Japan

    however, it is impossible now

it might be possible 500 years later

  • That's a very selfish and shallow statement for you to make. You should be ashamed for saying that. You cannot judge a culture you know nothing of. Most of Americans won't appreciate this, but some, like me, find it intensely beautiful and full of meaning. Just because someone is of a different nationality doesn't mean they can't understand art. Quit being so stuck up and full of yourself. For shame.

Aside from that, this man does amazing work, I would love to see them in person.

  • America is the new world, they do not have any specific cultural identity.

  • That may very well be true, but that doesn't mean no Americans can appreciate art of different cultures. Saying so is just stuck up elitism and selfishness. Quit buying into what you see on the television and such. Not everyone is America is stupid and without appreciation for culture and art. We may be small in numbers, but we still exist.

  • @bloodymissb doesn't mean that* in* . Suge -.-

  • always I reading other country's language at here

  • LOL since when me being a racist? I'm just commenting back in the way they commented, am I not?

  • Well, I can sympathize with what you're saying - but doesn't talking the same way back to these buffoons put you in the same place as them? I think we both agree that these people are ignorant and obnoxious - but it would be better to "raise the level" of the discourse, in my opinion.

"Fight fire with fire"っていう哲学って確かにあるけどね。でもなんか、その「うぜーよ外人お前らの糞人生」っていう言い方などはどう考えても許しにくい。僕だって、こういう「ウザい外人」って恥ずかしく思うよ。But if you just lump us all together like that, it seems a bit unfair to me...

    Thanks for listening.

  • All right, obviously you got much more class than me. And I agree with everything you mentioned in your posts. But with the word 外人 in my first post, I never intended my comment targeting sane, respectable person like you. Nonetheless I make my apology if my comments offended you.

  • To YouTube official:

Stop featuring Japanese videos on other language's top pages already. It's no use and no point. And I get tired to see these less educated fools complaining about no subs in their languages.

  • And why the fuck should we care if you "English speaking ppl" could understand this tiny video clip from the cow herding rural internet broadcasting station in Japan? Who do you think you are? Mr. Obama? ( though I don't think he is that arrogant like you brat...)

  • On youtube you can find some (or all,I think :) ) italian videos without subtitles too.

We are unpolite to "no italian speakers" too.

  • It's not an english website.

    Tt's a global website.

  • not Tt hahaha It

  • cool :)

  • I can't understand him but I'm sooooo digging his art!!!!

  • Well... at least I could understand the weather forecast :-P

I'll check back here when I'm able to read 500 kanji, maybe I can understand bit more then.

  • I like the song in the intro... haha.

    I don´t understand anything. I don´t know the lenguage.

    Watch my videos.

  • japanese?

  • Hai!

  • I don't see Majora's Mask anywhere...

  • That's becuase I have it, eh he he. I stole it from the Happy Mask Man while he was living the Clock Tower.

  • This a great clip for all you weeabos to practice your Jpn! Take notice: he only mentioned Desu 3 times and not once did he say Baka.

Actually (for those who've taken college-level jpn) this vid is fairly comprehensible since it's geared for Jpn schoolkids and both the interviewer & the maskmaker clearly enunciate :-)

  • Thaaaaaank You.

  • what is a weeabo?

  • wow...he is really good at creating mask so close to how real ancient ones look.

  • nothing

  • A master carver or should I say wood sculptor whose masks are very life like. I would love to see him create an Elvis mask. That would be a big seller.

  • Ah! they speak so fast! T_T I can't keep up! And, the only word I understood was 'konbanwa'... I'll have to listen and see if I recognize anymore...

NOTE: I'm not being mean... I'm just stating that my brain is too slow to keep up with their word, most of which I don't understand anyway since I don't speak fluent Japanese..

Oh, and the very first mask they showed REALLY creeped me out... ~JS...

  • Good God guys! Do you English speaking people have to be so cruel?!

it obvious by the title is wasn't in english.. why the hell did you click it just to make fun of them?!

  • aislinrose1, I'm not sure it's cruelty as much as it is stupidity.

  • Point...really good point actually :) Thanks for putting the word to it that I obviously missed :D

  • Oh yes--another well written sentence from another another brilliant american genius know-it-all, which once again demonstrates the impressive failure of public schooling in the United States. Well done, mkay7asd! Bravo!

  • I had an internship in the USA and I think in total I managed to find 3 people who spoke more then 1 language. 2 out of the 3 were foreigners.

It's really unbelievable, every person in my land speaks at least 3 languages (I'm dutch). (Of course not flawless, duh...)

Are we (the Dutch) just that stupid to learn more lanauges or ..... ?

  • As an American, my opinion is that Americans don't feel the need to learn other languages because everyone everywhere else is always learning English, which is our native language. Also, America is large and there is no real need to travel to other countries where other languages are spoken. It is said that English is the language of the world. I wish that they taught us other languages in in grade school, such as Spanish, but they don't.

  • That was indeed the most common "excuse".

However, I would have expected that you would learn at least Spanish at school, seeing that almost all of South America is Spanish-speaking.

But you're right, it's an attitude. I sure hope that attitude will change, because not only it's polite to speak more then 1 language, but it's also very useful. And last, it's a lot of fun too ! :-D

PS. In the Netherlands you learn Dutch, German, English and French. Gymnasium also learns Ancient Greek and Latin.

  • One thing that is required for American University students is to take a certain amount of a foreign language. And in high school we have the option of taking foreign languages, but it isn't required.

Why is it polite to speak more than one language?

  • I don't know really. I guess it's to show that you do not think that your native language is the most important in the world :-)

PS. In the Netherlands we get those languages for 6 years and even then we think we suck at it because we don't speak the language flawlessly ;-)

  • Then I believe that the Netherlands has a good school system. It is smart to learn other languages. What you say about the politeness makes sense. The thing about English, though, is that many people around the world learn it. But that means that we should respect other languages by learning them, as well. I plan to learn Spanish and Japanese, for example.

It is clear to me that people in the Netherlands take great pride in speaking languages. =) I hope that someday USA can say the same.

  • If you're an American with trading in the blood, you will learn Spanish --> you can trade with an entire continent by speaking the language.

And well, we dutch have always been traders and we will always be. Remember, the most important language in the world is the language of your customer ;-)
