Shoelace, huh...guitarists are always telling me that, but I think about it cutting into the wood and into my neck and resist doing it. Maybe a cat's cradle loop cut up, or would that be too elastic...

Shoelace...run it through the top of the strap and then tie off just behind the nut at the head.
