I have lived in States for a while and I am not trying to say that all americans are ignorant but let's face it - most Americans know little or even nothing about foreign political life. Yet they manage to have strong opinions on every subject.

Life in France actually is a good deal more expensive than in the US, meaning we here have less purchasing power seeing that we have the same GDP per capita.

But then inequality of wealth is less extreme in France than in the USA so French working class people may not automatically have that much less PPP GDP/capita than American working class people, - maybe it's mainly our rich people who are less rich lol- besides money being less important here seeing we have many free or quasi-free public services (healthcare etc), and also the French simply work less

I think the American Democrats are a far further on the right wing than UMP or other European right wing parties. The Democrats barely managed to come together to put forward some tiny public health care for people in USA. Where ever there are right wing parties in Europe they are still commited to the health care and social system plus governments hold vast stakes in many companies, television, energy, transport etc etc, totally unheard of in USA I believe.

There have been many surveys taken over the last 10 years about former presidents and Ronald's popularity has either stayed the same, or risen higher in the past decade. Plus, I grew up in the 80's, I remember the 1984 election. He won 49 of the 50 states. You don't achieve that by NOT being popular :)
