yes bono is a great singer! it's not all about the singing techniques but bono has so much emotion in his voice. all the fans have goosebumps when they hear where the streets have no name @slane castle. he's got his own sound. bono's voice is only damaged it's a rock n roll voice. you can't compare those two.
bono didnt come out of this that great but he shows that he can sing opera in other vids like when he did both parts of MSarajevo, like in MIlan, was awesome and brought tear to my eye. So maybe its not so much about genre but about being comfortable with a particular song.

Phonetically Bono is unItalian,, his voice is weak. His voice is bland and unItalian. He should stick to rock and roll. Not genuine. Bono cannot hit high notes. He is trying to talk Italian and sing, not successful at all. Listen to the difference in the voice quality of both men.

When his voice tries to reach a certain level, the noteor the voice becomes scratchy. Listen again. The voice is soft but not smooth and unscratchy. It is a scratched LP record.

I feel like a lot of people don't like U2 merely because of Bono's "pretentiousness". Shame really, they have made some fantastic music.
Bono is embarassing himself. Bono should be singing with much lower caliber, much lower quality singers. This is not fair, come on Bono, get serious, you not a great singer, you are just a performing singer that cannot hold your own voice against a Great Master. Very embarassing for him. But then, Bono does not get it and thinks this embarassing moment is helping his image.

I have heard some great singers in my lifetime, including Pavarotti. I have seen some of the greatest musicians doing amazing things with their instruments. I'm sure that Pavarotti AND the entire U2 band would agree that there is too much diversity out there for "half" of music to die with their band.
Bono is astounding for a beginner! He could develop this and do a whole aria

In my opinion notes like high c are very high. In opera singing higher than high g is very hard. Bono can hit live c4.
