David, a young African-American who moved to Sesame Street in the early 1970s was soon hired by Mr. Hooper as an assistant. Mr. Hooper left David the store in his will.David ran the establishment from 1983 until 1989 (when Northern Calloway, the actor that played David, left the show). Northern Calloway had fallen ill to cancer in real life in the late 1980s. He was forced to leave the show for health reasons, and died in 1990.

This is from the 1983 episode in which, after the actor who played Mr Hooper actually died, the producers of Sesame Street decide to do the brave thing and explain death, bereavement and grieving to preschoolers as gently as they could. It was a very touching episode, and a real tribute to "Mister Looper".

There's only ONE MR. Hooper credited in the IMDB entry for Sesame Street and that was Will Lee from 1969-1983. You people are full of shit who keep trying to say he was black and retconnned in. Will Lee DIED in 1983 and they didn't have that kind of technology back then.

Before his death, Will Lee was filmed in a "camera sphere", a then brand-new (now commonplace) contraption that allows you to film someone from all angles. He performed many actions that became a stock set of "Hoopitary Actions", used to modify the CGI that has gone in. In the 1980s, they simply held up cardboad cutouts of Mr. Hooper when they were doing reruns.

Anyhow, as i said, the video editing technology evolved later. They used cardboard cut outs of both Will Lee's face, hands, and voice, and held them up during reruns.  There's is ample evidence to support this.

I also found this from an article about the 40th anniversary of Sesame Street to prove he was white

Brad's character "Eli Hooper", died in a knife fight on the basketball cages of New York. When Henson retconned the character to make him a kindly old jewish fellow, he had to use his connections with ILM to get actor Greebo Sykes' face and hands into all those old reels.

I was fucking there in the 70's and Mr. Hooper was never black so nothing was ever retconned in as you say. You also failed to refute my point about video editing technology. It would have been impossible to insert a new person and voice over another person in the period of 1969-1983 when Mr. Hooper was still on the show.
