This will only work for minor / fresh clogs. For more stubborn or longer clogs, you will need the cleaning cycle as the cleaning cycle uses a pump to suck ink through the nozzle, this helps clean the heads as your trick will not always work if some ink has dried up on your nozzles. What you had is probably an air bubble, :)
You have maybe chosen a colour that is not true red but more like orange - hence the yellow ink. Try and find the true red colour so that you do not waste any other inks. Try the method i have desciribed to unblock your nozzles. Try the method a few times and the new ink will dissolve the blockages
@Colosos701 Not sure what to do as I do not know if your printer has the same design as the Epsons. first thing is to make you relise that the shade of red you chose is not correct - I am guessing it is somewhere near an orange colour - the reason you got yellow. You need to find a way of choosing the primary colour (Cyan). Once you have tried printing a few times you may get the ink coming through. Do this for a while and new ink will dissolve the hrdened on thicker ink blocking your nozzles.
thanks for this info. I've been so annoyed wasting my ink every time I would run the printer head cleaning and still would come out of blurred prints. Your tip really works!
@rednoseroyce Don't print out the photo yet. Half fill a word document with bold text. Highlight all of the Text and change it to the primary colour for the faulty nozzle (red in my example). Put a couple of sheets of plain paper in the printer. Next, go to the print properties and set the print quality to photo. Now print out the text. Next, use the nozzle check utility to check if all the nozzles are clear. If all the nozzles are clear - go ahead and print your photo.

But how the hell do you get to the Printer Preferences menu / Nozzle Check utility in the first place?
Can't find the damn thing anywhere.

@soupdragon151 The option is in the "basic" settings. Go to "print", "preferences", "basics"

That's soooo helpful. Thank you very much! I hate this epson printer, so it's things like this that make it suffice.

You, my friend, are a genius! Your idea saved me the price of a new printer as I was going to give it up. :) Thank you.

Thats a good idea but what if you need to print a photo in the best quality after the nozzles clog?
