i really ike horse races but steeple chases are just so... cruel. for both horses and riders. grand national is crazy- i don´t like it. didn´t believe it is this cruel before i saw this.
@liverpool5917 I do think that the National should now be "Ginger McCaine's Grand National, sponcored by John Smiths". at least for 2012, but preferably forever :)
My heart nearly stopped when Hedgehunter fell n didnt get up ;o( my money was on him ...n also the following year when he won ;o) bloody Clan Royal hampered my other horse Lord Atterbury on the run in ;o/ i was not a happy bunny lol
@Smallscousefox i know, i panicked when he didn't get up, but it was clear he was exhausted coming to the fence, i reckon he just had to rest his legs before getting up. he was absolutely fine though - he proved this a year later!
very few horses in the history of the grand national would have won from where amberleigh came from......nothing short of miraculous...and no other horse deserved it more.....amberleigh now 19 is retired at the newmarket stud and if you are ever in the area hes well worth visiting ....such a lovely gentle horse.
this is one of the classics, the way amberleigh house ran on in the last 4 furlongs is unbeliveable! even after 4 miles!! hedgehunter hunter ran some race and im glad he got on to win it the very next year!
@dinney123 yea was just knackered and will have been winded when he fell mate, took him a while to get his breath back, and i was on when he went on to win the following year
they completely rebuilt beechers for the next year and widened the ditch and had water running through it again the covers were to stop horses drowning too
I backed Amberleigh House and was literally screaming for him at the elbow! But I'm always thinking when I watch this....would poor Clan Royal have won if McCoy had been on board that year?
McCoy seems really unlucky in the National... BUT Frankie got his Derby, so Im sure he'll do it one year! I have to back him every year, just in case ;) lol

I backed Jurancon II that year. One of 4 co-favourites and he fell at the 4th i think. Was gutted!!!
