Is it just me? Watching this video, I swear, brings back the taste of Falstaff beer! Man! I could go for a big, tall, frosty, ice clinging to the can, Falstaff! Don't forget your 'churchkey'. No pop tabs. : )
I met a Vietnamese worker at the PX in Danang. I was grounded while my helicopter crash was being investigated. I bought refurbished stereo equipment and sold it to other GIs. Not rationed. This young Vietnamese guy loved the Beatles. One day, I walked out the door. A Marine guard called out to a Vietnamese man to halt. In English and Vietnamese, three times. The guy was running away. The Marine shot him with a 45 Colt automatic. I went to help the civilian but he was already dead.
@AntiChinksFederation -- Uncle Ho said he didn't care if a million Vietnamese died and we Americans killed more than that number. Charlie won because the Americans walked away from the war after they pulled out the majority of their troops. The American politicians were worried about getting re-elected; not about winning the war.
@doorgunnerAmerical 1) Pres. Kennedy did not allow U.S. troops in Lao. 2) Congress voted to stop funding S. Viet in '75. Pres Ford did nothing. With no U.S. money, Nixon gone, Giap launched an offensive.
Many people do not know that South Korea had army and marine units in S.V.
Aus, N.Z. and P.I. had small contingents on S.V. side.
The Vietnamese bands did a great job of parroting the lyrics of the the American and English bands that were popular at the time. One time, I went up and tried to talk to some band members in English and they didn't understand what I was saying!
@doorgunnerAmerical I was in a band like this between 1967 to 1969. We covered Beatles and others British and American music. I spoke broken Enghlish but understood most parts of conversations with GIs. Many of members of viet rock band had never been in an English class because ther droped out after middle shool to joint a band if they had a natural tallent. We made a big buck and enjoy a short live of luxury.
MY guitar teacher performed for the AMericans hahah it was dope heard he played like LEd Zep Black SAbbath Some Santana and Jimi HEndrix it was dope... and Fuck those COmmies they can die ...Charlie aint jack shit npalm the living shit out of em
even though it looked like fun, we still lost a few boys at vung tau. I was there in 67-68 and we did get mortered and rocketed time and again. rip in peace warriors
@tieuhavn -- South Vietnam didn't lose the war and neither did the United States. Ever hear of the Paris Peace Accords of 1973. Got that: 1973! Vietnam lost the peace and the United States plus the other signers of the peace agreement let the Communists violate the agreement.
I did some USO shows there in 72, met a VN Indian martial arts instructor who took me up in the hills to an opium den; the elderly Vietamese got a kick out of feeling myshoulder length long blonde hair; then we hung at abandoned French colonial mansions dotting the coastline overlooking the sea; it was very cool and surreal.

Great video ... you Yanks were better set up then us Aussies at Vungers. I was in the 'Nam in 1971, with the Third Battalion Royal Australian Regiment. Nice to see Vungers again ... Thanks Mate!
@3RAR1971 -- Vung Tau was the Rest and Recreation (R&R) center for Vietnam. Married soldiers could fly to Hawaii and stay with their wives. I spent two weeks in Japan. I almost went to Australia but I decided to forgo R&R during my second tour. Chu Lai was a backwater compared to Danang. It all depended where you were stationed as far as how developed a base or compound was. The Green Beret compound near the DMZ was spartan except for the ice cream kept in a freezer.
Man i forgot about this place. We had live bands every weekend. I was still in Nam in 71 I might have been there when this was taken ! 330th. trans. Co.

This was the good proof why South Viet Nam had lost the war. South Viet Nam and its allies were not fighting, but enjoying a vacation of sins.
