No FPSes work well on consoles, really. Console FPSes typically rely on auto-aim and aim-lock to even be playable. For instance, in CoD, your aim will snap onto the enemies and the hitboxes are massive expanded to compensate for the horrible and clunky controls, taking any mediocre amount of skill that might have been required to play that game on the PC completely out of the equation.

Says a lot about the console community that they have become the forefront of those sad excuses for gameplay.

I play both on xbox and pc. First xbox, which got me started to play tf2 (wanted orange box for half life 2 and portal). Tried out tf2 and played it ever since and became a pro at it. Started playing tf2 on pc however, i hate it. The mouse doesn't work for me. To some, yes, but for me, nah i'll stick with the controller.

Mousepads should be plain and one colour. The only mouse I will ever use now is the Razer Naga. Purely because it is the only mouse with 17 buttons. The ability to fire off skills in an MMO or switch spells or weapons in Skyrim without lifting your hand from your movement keys is awesome.

The most important thing on setup is your chair. You have to stand well, to better coordinate your mouse and keyboard movement. Plus it also minimize potential spine issues.

You're just playing better with a keyboard-mouse configuration, i have a similar level of gameplay as yours and i'm not good with keyboard-mouse for FPSs, i could improve with it but it would take a lot of time and efforts just to play the same games with a different configuration. Saying controllers are bad for FPSs is just stupid, the same type of peaple have been saying the same thing from the beginning of VG, they'll never learn to just accept the differences. You can put in your launch options (at steam) "-dxlevel 81" and everything runs smoother, only graphical effect that you lose is the awesome shadow effects on your weapon.

@si7veRxArm Go to options, Mouse, enable gamepad. Then in Options, go to Advanced, enable developer console, type: exec 360controller, hit enter (you may have to restart TF2 to allow the new settings). You can adjust your sensitivity under mouse options as well I like to put it almost halfway. Hope this helped!

I came over from the consoles and I will die clutching a controller in my hands. Granted, it's Logitech and not a 360 controller, but I suppose the same concept applies.

I agree that for rocket-jumping and scout harassment a controller isn't very good. Still, I enjoy using one for casual gameplay, or for when I feel like playing Medic. The key is to use what feels comfortable to you! Good video, very informative.

@TellNoMore Not in TF2. It breaks the class balance. A scout whose aim is hindered while double jumping, or a soldier that has to look down to rocket jump is pretty crippled. I have been trying it recently on my brother's XBox. It's not bad. I enjoy it, though not nearly as much as on the PC. The biggest complaint I have is that no one on Xbox knows how to play. They fail at Dustbowl, Gravelpit, etc. All they do is deathmatch on 2fort.

@itarethetroll change your button layout. Put jump to left trigger, that fixes all the aiming problems with jumping. And i played with clan mates and we stomped. I was just as good as the good pc players when i started on pc. You just need to find the right people and get to know them. It's a great community, or at least it was...

@TellNoMore I assume you mean the button above the left trigger and not the trigger itself, because that would remove the secondary fire. It does free up your right thumb, but it doesn't change the fact that your aiming with a stick rather than with a precise mouse. You were as good as the PC players because you started playing on the PC, rather than on the Xbox. Also, clanstacking in general is easy, especially on the Xbox, where the community is mostly unaware of the metagame.

The one thing you need to get for a good computer set up is a laser mouse. I recently got the G500 and now I don't even need a mouse pad. Optical mice are very buggy and will create rage.

If you have a lot of money to spend go with a mechanical keyboard. They're more for heavy APM games like SC2 or typing.

My bootleg mousepad is an opened looseleaf notebook. Whenever the sheet I'm using gets too gnarly I just flip it around and there's a fresh new mousepad beneath (and about 178 others after that). The depth of the notebook gives my wrist some support, and the size (8.5 x 11) gives me plenty of room to toss the mouse around. I can also make notes on it if I'm feeling really resourceful. The mouse tracks great on it. Never had a problem.

long story short: really low equiment can make you play worse than with better stuff. however it hasnt to be high end.
