can anybody help me, i got bob ross oil to paint. does oil take a day or so to dry??? anybody? also what is brand of paint is best for face portraits? and acrylic or oils?
It depends on what you paint on, and also how thick or thin your paint is. The thinner you've made the paint, the quicker it will dry. If you paint on canvas, it'll take longer than if you're painting on illustration board. Oil is really awesome to work with, but acrylic is probably the best to start off with. It can be difficult but watch a few demos on how to do portrait painting with acrylics first, it'll help out :D
It takes a week to dry. and even then its not really 'dry'. i only have used bob ross with a few exceptions and i love his paint. don't bother buying 'skin tone' paint. mix yourself.
@ilov3lucy86 i wouldn't use 'happy' paint that is used to paint 'happy' trees or clouds. bob ross was a couch painter, a craftsman, that used all the tricks to create a 'couch' painting. want to come back and work a painting over? use oils. do a painting in 2 hours and finish. use either. not the brand, it's the use, the handling. lean to thick is the rule with oils. i threw out my acrylics and went back to what i started at 9 years old. oils.
Nope, in this case I think I painted with Studio Products Robersons Medium, which pretty much behaves like Liquin, although it's not an alkyd medium. It has a bit more body and dries super quick. A bit tacky but wonderful stuff
At 58 seconds into the video you seem to have something besides a brush in your right hand. Is is a can of spray?
If you made a similar video without the camera shake and other distractions, you would be able to interest a lot of people here on YouTube. Your painting and approach are very evocative.
Very interesting video idea. Watching you work is very educational. That shot of your palette had two containers on it. Does one contain wax? What are in them? thanks
For some reason the video is freezing @ 2:34... no clue why this is happening, but just drag it passed that time and it'll keep going... an uploading glitch I guess...

A DVD would be a good seller..just do it right and it will sell and sell..also, it would help a lot of aspiring artists. I'll take the first one!
