Finally watched this classic and this got me . A wonderful movie . The line that got me was the " i hadn't seen him in more than 10 years i know i'll miss him the most " But this whole ending is wonderful and the dialogue is perfect ! I only regret that i didn't watch it sooner
when i was 12 i had some good days, good freinds, now i dislike those freinds and cant quite stand to be around them they bug the shit out of me. but i got some new freinds and they are just as good, but you cant quite have as much innocent good times as you could when you were 12...
I watched this for the first time the other day- it made me cry, I've never had any friends like the ones I had when I was 12 and I miss them....they were happy days, I miss them, when we walked in fields of gold.
now that i see that this was how life was back then, i wish i lived then and not now. i just started middle school and i dont have the kind of friends i did when i was in elementary school
I remember watching this movie as a kid and it is still one of the first i choose to watch. I think this movie allows us to reconnect with our youth and re-live our friendships for a brief time. The ending makes me think how we meet people and how they enter our lives, but can we ever really call them our friends. It is just never the same...
RIP River Phoenix. This is such a great movie. They all did amazing in it and luckily all have gone onto some form of success as adults, I can only imagine the wonderful movies and things (just as a activist) River would have gone on to do. May he Rest In Peace.
The best ending. Just recently passed the 17 year anniversary of one of my best childhood friends passing away when he was 16. He has been dead longer than he was alive.
It is amazing how true this movie rings now in my 30's. My other best friend growing up and I haven't talked in probably 10 years. To me he is just another face in the crowd. I thought when we were twelve we would be best friends forever, how wrong I was.
Fantastic movie, still one of my favorites after all these years. There may never be more truth than the last line Gordie typed: "I never had friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve.
Jesus, does anyone?"
Always brings a tear to my eye when they show Chambers disappear at the end. I lost my best friend when I was 19 and this movie will always remind me of him and my other close friends growing up.

Best friends I ever had was from 11-13. Still my friends today, most of us moved though, we all have different friends in our new places and stuff, but still, none of them are as close as we are even if we're thousands of miles apart.
i have friends and all, but never any like these. mine just care about stupid, materialistic things that won't ever matter outside of their worlds. Its hard and i don't want to be mean or make them think that i think i'm better than them, it just that i see things on a deeper level
I feel exactly the same. But I have some friends that are more like myself now, so that's a kind of relief. Jeez, will anyone ever have anything near what we had when we were youngsters? I don't think so to be honest.
Age was best between 10 and 15. After that the world consumed 'em all, and only God knows why. One of my favorite movies by the way, Stephen King at his best.
Where was this house at? I know it was probably in Brownsville, OR, but is there any way to find the exact location/address? It was an awesome house, based on what they filmed.
@clazza01 thats wat my brother become. when he was in middle school he had these great friends who were really cool not just to him but to me. eventually they all grew apart. one of them told its cus he thinks hes to cool for them. i made friends with this i met in my spanish my freshmen year of high school we gre apart a little bit but she still talks to me on occasion. i hope to still be her friend.
I understand his comments about friendship, but I always thought my friends at 16 and above were better because those are based on real values and loyalty. When you are 13 all you care about is riding bikes and goofing around. My friends at 13 I can care less about, the ones as an adult are the priceless ones.
I have this friend, he and I grew up togeather from about 6 up to our 30s. He used to live across the street from my grandfathers. We used to get into all sorts of shit. It was the best time of my life. My father died when I was 10 and I will miss him and the fun times we had with my best friend when I was a kid. So many memories...I will cherish forever.
