I wasn't intentionally calling you a pharisee. I apologize; I was heated when I wrote that and didn't clearly define my words in 500 characters. I used them as an example since they were the best example I thought of. The first sentence, however, I know came off harsh and for that I sincerely apologize. I love this song, and I think it does a great work when taken in an objective light without assumption.
Seriously? How could you get behind a president who waged a personal war under the lie that it was to stop weapons of mass destruction? How do you see abortion as a crime, but a president who waged a war in vain isn't murder? I'm not talking about the death of an evil dictator (Saddam)--of course, we never really chose to stop Pol Pot's, and barely chose to stop Hitler; I'm talking about the murder of American troops who waged a war that they believed was right and good.
@Hodgestic Hodge, i never said anything about supporting bush, but this is a classic example of a red herring. you haven't at all addressed the point about abortion,u've simply shifted the focus to talking about the crimes of others. Well okay fine, obama is just as guilty as bush, what's your point?
If you agree Bush is morally guilty of something, then how about bringing up the moral crimes of America's leaders! You speak on this subject throughout the comments with such malice as to suggest Obama is the only person guilty of moral and social sins. So what if I'm talking about the crimes of others? If it saves him from the pyre, then I will definitely stand up for it!
@Hodgestic There's nothing about my statements that conclude "obama is the only person who's ever done anything wrong". This move you're doing is called a red herring hodge, and you and other wayward thinkers employ this to take the focus off your own political idol and say "well...such and so did it to!" well thats fine, but we're not talking about such and so, we're talking about obama, and that doesn't commit us to talkin about every politician ever.
If you must talk about how one debates, then don't you know that the majority of debates--especially 2300 years since the beginning of the "age of reason"--have been won because we refer back to precedents?
No, obviously we're not talking about "such and so." So let's go with your reasoning: "Don't support Obama because he's pro-abortion." OK, so who else was running for president? Well nobody since that would require talking about "such and so."
Unless we choose to fight against all leaders guilty of wrong doing, we're no better than the people we choose to burn. Deep down there's more to this issue, and it's a paradigm. You will totally disagree with this and know how to argue your way out of being pigeonholed because your smart; it still will not change the fact that you have deep running conservative empathies that blind you to your "side's" sins. If you are aware, however, then you're just guilty of injustice.
@Hodgestic Hodge, you really dont know me from the next man, so you really can't psychoanalyze me and conclude my political sentiments from a youtube comment exchange. I could have "deep running yada yada", and that have nothing to do with whether or not it would be wrong to support Obama as a Christian given his radical devaluing of human life as reflected in his voting record. Bring up all the polititicians u want to distract us away, and i'll simply bring it back to the actual topic.
@Hodgestic You mean dont crucify obama. Nobody wants their sacred cow shot and its clear no matter what obama's views, ur willing to take the bullet for him
It's not my goal to support only Obama. I'm not a democrat at heart or an Obamaholic. I am here to tell you that abortion is not a good enough reason to vote for someone else. Especially when the only other relevant person, who's followers are in the majority anti-democrat, is in support of injustice on exactly the same plane as Obama.
It's too bad he didn't follow through with many of his promises. It's also a reason why I'll never vote Republican or democrat they always put there agendas over the peoples. So they deserve no support from the people.
instead of praising obama he should be praising God. To be more like Jesus should be the main goal. i continue to pray for obama and his administration but i do not support him or his policies. i don't support abortion, no one has the right to kill an innocent child. not obama, not the radicals or conservatives. no one
Though I continue to pray for this man, as it is incumbent upon ALL of us to do, it is so painful to watch the pain and suffering his ideologically driven policies are inflicting upon the people of the USA, and since the USA is such an economic nexus, the rest of the world.
I think that there is more suffering to come, even after the two terms that I think he will win.
and you all will bow to the real one and only "I am" one day...and thats Jesus Christ King of Kings and Lord of Lords
Amen Rhythm. The very center of the Bible tells us "It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man." Psalm 118:8. JESUS SAVES! put your trust in Him and not man.
When I see Gospel rap artists supporting Obama it makes me not want to even listen to Holy Hip-Hop anymore! I pray for Obama and thats bout where my support ends...
black like him because he is black, democrats like him because he is democrat, Latinos and Asian like him because he is not Republican. That sounds a winning combiation.
To me I feel as if it's time for us (blacks) to make a change for the better in our communities, families, and within ourselves because I never allowed my hood,project, etc... to affect me. I am a devoted Christian and I realize that we as a race get in our way sometimes... maybe Obama becoming President is a sign for us to change. Furthermore, we all know that the old ways is not working. Jkwest keep up the good work. Obama 09 and Rev. Moss 09. Peace and God Bless you all.
It seems like to me you have two competing world views. If you're a devout Christian, a follower of Jesus, why would you or any Christian need obama to get you to change? I guess Jesus doesn't suffice? I think one of the biggest problems in Christiandom is blacks who have allegiance to their so-called "race" and, like this election proved, they hold their race above the God they say they believe. A Christians priority isn't for ppl of the same skin color, but the cause of Christ alone.
and btw, while im not tryna make this no heated things cuz we're both followers of Christ but...how can you compare obama...to martin luther, either king junior or the reformer. i seriously doubt either one would back him.
does supporting obama automatically make you unsaved? of coarse not. but its misguided to embrace him as a whole given his position on a number of views. its also irresponsible to not acknowledge the obvious negative change he'll bring in this country if you're a follower of Christ. I think if you're fair you'll have to acknowledge the very bad things he seeks to impliment, outweigh whatever proposed good he may do. Does the economy outweigh the life issue for the Christian? i hope not.
There's nothing in the bible about abortion. If you want to define human life from the moment of conception that's your own modern interpretation. It's not very Christian to force women to comply to your own strict moral code and violate their own bodies.
To say that life begins at conception is "my own modern interpretation" is deeply misguided. Life beginning at conception is a biological fact, so theres no discussion there. And because of that fact, the bible speaks very clearly to issue of abortion, "you will not murder". Murder is the taking of an innocent life, and thats exactly what abortion is. To say it is not "Christian" to "force women to comply to.." is also false; most of if not all of Gods commandments demand morality from humans.
So you think a fertilised egg is suddenly endowed with a soul? There's clearly a big moral difference between killing a child and killing a single fertilised egg.
And god demands morality from individuals, he does not demand that states autocratically impose religion on individuals. There is a societal consensus that things like murder and theft are wrong, which is why they are illegal. There is no consensus for abortion.
what is a fertilized egg? you know u have a sibling rivalry of ideas. on the one hand u say God demands morality from individuals, but on the other hand u say that morality stems from a societal consensus. wut if a societal consensus, like one of nazi germany says killing some humans is okay? is it then right in the eyes of God?
Law is determined by societal consensus. So while you might personally believe abortion is wrong, that doesn't mean it should be illegal. If you don't want an abortion, don't get one. If you don't think others should, persuade them not to. But the government should not impose the values of some religions and people on the whole of society.
tamer, if law is determined by societal consensus, and members of society are religions (of which the overwhelming majority are) then what do u mean the government should not impose the values of some religions and people on the whole of society? from WHERE do you think we get our votes? the truth of the matter is religious ppl vote on everyting in this country, so what are you talking about? also, what is a fertilized egg?
Although most people in society are religious, most people in society do not support making abortion illegal. So it should be a matter of individual morality.
Your question: A fertilized egg is an embryo. You decide to call an embryo human, but this is arbitrary. In the ancient world, life and humanhood was usually considered to start at birth, upon drawing the first breath (soul = psyche, breath). This is why abortion is permitted in Jewish law and the bible nowhere condemns aborting a fetus.
well calling an embryo human isn't arbitrary, an embryo is a stage of growth for a certain kind of being,not a being in and of itself. So in reality, choosing to call an embryo just an embryo as tho its a kind of being or species is arbitrary and against sound biology. This correlates to what you said about the ancient world, they believed alot of things simply because they lacked knowledge; as for the jews, well im not jewish, im a Christian, and the bible does condemn abortion.
So you decide that an embryo should not be killed because it has human DNA and will grow into a baby? I don't see how they are better criteria than picking other criteria, e.g. a certain stage of development of the fetus where it develops significant human features and so forth.
Find me one verse where the bible directly condemns abortion (that is, abortion as singled out from homocide generally)
If you followed the debate you would see that we're discussing how to define a human, and thus what murder is.
Anyway, you're wrong. Our laws are not based on the 10 commandments. Our laws have nothing to do with 6/10 !!!:
(1) You shall have no other gods before me, (2) You shall not make for yourself an idol (3) You shall not make wrongful use of the name of your God (4) Remember the Sabbath and keep it holy (5) Honor your father and mother (10) You shall not covet your neighbor's wife
ok, fine then, a fetus is a human, it has a soul, it lives, it eats what the mother eats, it lives inside of the carrying woman, so, haw can you say that a fetus is not a human?
Remember, this country was established based on religious freedom not Christianity alone. Having said that, we should be careful when putting all or hopes and dreams on Obama. He cannot fix the economy or the violence in the middle east. He cannot reverse years of educational and institutional neglect nor can he eliminate the hurt of racism. However, I do hope he DOES make decisions best for the country as a whole and not just what is best for any one particular groups Christian or otherwise!
Im not sure what your 1st sentence had to do with the second.I definately dont depend on him to fix any of those things. My only complaint has been that 95% of black ppl supported this man, and a great deal of them being Christians, and given his radical abortion stance, this to me is unthinkable. For me its not a matter of hope that he'll do the best for this country, because he's already shown he's dead set on taking away the lives of those who are most defenseless in our society, the unborn.
@veritaslogos Dude...if abortion is illegal, either the chick will try illegal coat hanger abortion which is dangerous and gives money to criminals. And if the unwanted kid is born, chances are, they end up in a orphanage or on the street, eventually becoming a criminal or shit
@snubbs741 sounds like standard,introductory level pro-choice rhetoric. fallacious arguments like these are like poison because ppl too quickly impressed by "gotcha" phrases repeat them and they spread. you are making the highly questionable claim that because some people die attempting to kill others, the state should make it safe and legal for them to do so. Should we legalize bank robbery so it is safer for felons?
"Should we legalize bank robbery so it is safer for felons?"
We pretty much did that in the late Bush Administration. AIG bonuses anybody? How about we make murder illegal. Well it already is as long as you use the US Military. Gun running? The top gun runner in the world is the U.S. Abortion is a big concern, but it isn't our biggest. It would be a travesty to whittle away the fate of the free world on just one issue. Neo-cons need to reread Jesus' words about the speck
@Hodgestic Another red herring. Nobody said abortion was our biggest issue, tho it is one that can be more easily prevented. hodge if ur intent on not addressing the moral crimes of obama, fine, but dont obfuscate things by brining up irrelevant issues.
Did you not exaggerate in the same manner by bringing up a question about bank robbers? You used it to make a point. I'm in no way driving the conversation away from its source anymore than you are narrowing the focus of a free world down to a single issue.
One more issue, "it is one that can be more easily prevented." Now you say my issues are irrelevant, but what is irrelevant about an unjust war? How easy was that to prevent? We did not need any counseling programs, law enforcement, or public education to discuss the dangers and costs of starting a war. That was probably the biggest issue that was also the easiest to prevent. The only person needing counseling was a man who thought a fetus had more freedom than a soldier.
@Hodgestic Hodge, when talkingn about the abortion views of our current president, bringing up your views on the war is irrelevant, i mean even as i type the two clauses its like..duh. On your view, nobody can ever critisize anyone with out talking about someone else, and of course i know u really dont believe this, ur simply tryin to remove obama from scrutiny by tossing some other ppl in with him. dont be that guy.
How can we scrutinize Obama if were not allowed to refer back to precedents? How do you know there is a soul in the womb? You can't scrutinize with regards to the bible. Otherwise, be fair and scrutinize other candidates according to the same.
But you don't want to fight that war, you'd rather be right in your ways than righteous.
Interesting, however, that you said MY views on the war are irrelevant. Then why do agree that Bush is just as guilty as Obama earlier? Humor me a bit, did you feel that Bush was worthy enough for a second term?
You're also right that I don't believe that. I say the only way to scrutinize even one person is to look honestly at the issues and scrutinize everyone accordingly. People say, "believe Jesus!" Why should I trust their way over that of Mohammad.
Now don't attack me on the basis of that as a red herring. That last phrase is a question for you to debate amongst yourself or to humor me if you must. I know you'll say it's not "relevant" to the issue you brought up. But your stance was already pointed; I'm here to say be fair.
We can't let the next 8 years be like the past 8. we can't let those who have been trying to keep us down, win. not this time. let's do ourselves and our families right this time around.
This is real hip hop. This is power of the music. It's just hot! Ya gotta love it, even without the verse about partial birth abortions. It's more than one issue in this election that effected us. So just get over that 021black.

However, I do hope he DOES make decisions best for the country as a whole and not just what is best for any one particular groups Christian or otherwise!
tiredoftherhetoric 3 years ago
Im not sure what your 1st sentence had to do with the second.I definately dont depend on him to fix any of those things. My only complaint has been that 95% of black ppl supported this man, and a great deal of them being Christians, and given his radical abortion stance, this to me is unthinkable. For me its not a matter of hope that he'll do the best for this country, because he's already shown he's dead set on taking away the lives of those who are most defenseless in our society, the unborn.

you can't be serious...nothing Christian about obama's abortion stance
veritaslogos 3 years ago
@veritaslogos Dude...if abortion is illegal, either the chick will try illegal coat hanger abortion which is dangerous and gives money to criminals. And if the unwanted kid is born, chances are, they end up in a orphanage or on the street, eventually becoming a criminal or shit
snubbs741 1 year ago
@snubbs741 sounds like standard,introductory level pro-choice rhetoric. fallacious arguments like these are like poison because ppl too quickly impressed by "gotcha" phrases repeat them and they spread. you are making the highly questionable claim that because some people die attempting to kill others, the state should make it safe and legal for them to do so. Should we legalize bank robbery so it is safer for felons?
veritaslogos 1 year ago
@veritaslogos
Hodgestic 1 year ago
@Hodgestic Another red herring. Nobody said abortion was our biggest issue, tho it is one that can be more easily prevented. hodge if ur intent on not addressing the moral crimes of obama, fine, but dont obfuscate things by brining up irrelevant issues.
veritaslogos 1 year ago
@veritaslogos
Did you not exaggerate in the same manner by bringing up a question about bank robbers? You used it to make a point. I'm in no way driving the conversation away from its source anymore than you are narrowing the focus of a free world down to a single issue.
Hodgestic 1 year ago
@veritaslogos
Hodgestic 1 year ago
@Hodgestic Hodge, when talkingn about the abortion views of our current president, bringing up your views on the war is irrelevant, i mean even as i type the two clauses its like..duh. On your view, nobody can ever critisize anyone with out talking about someone else, and of course i know u really dont believe this, ur simply tryin to remove obama from scrutiny by tossing some other ppl in with him. dont be that guy.
veritaslogos 1 year ago
@veritaslogos
Hodgestic 1 year ago
@veritaslogos
Hodgestic 1 year ago
@Hodgestic
Now don't attack me on the basis of that as a red herring. That last phrase is a question for you to debate amongst yourself or to humor me if you must. I know you'll say it's not "relevant" to the issue you brought up. But your stance was already pointed; I'm here to say be fair.

This is real hip hop. This is power of the music. It's just hot! Ya gotta love it, even without the verse about partial birth abortions. It's more than one issue in this election that effected us. So just get over that 021black.
